Re: [Koha] OPAC search limiting options

2019-01-21 Thread Irma Birchall
Hi Peter,

The Publication date option for search filtering is available for both
system preferences : *OpacAdvSearchMoreOptions* and *OpacAdvSearchOptions*.
Also define in *OPACdefaultSortOrdersort* the sort order for date of
publication in this* OPACdefaultSortField *system preference*. *

Hope this helps.

Hi Peter

Go to Home

Administration
 › Item
types
› Add item type
Create a dedicated new item type (for example "Staff only resource" or
"School records" ) and tick the 1. Hide in OPAC option.
Decide on 2. Not for loan option.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Koha] Library items non-display in OPAC

2019-01-22 Thread Irma Birchall
Hi Peter

. of course Peter, in your own system go to <> Home › Administration ›
Item types › Add item type.
Apologies for adding a live link in my previous email and forwarding my
email with incomplete instructions.

And further instructions for OPAC record suppression:
Procedure:
1. Create a new class of authorised values: SUPPRESS; create value 0 with
description Not Suppressed; create value 1 with description Suppressed.
2. Amend every MARC framework to link subfield 942$n to the Authorised
Value class SUPPRESS.
3. Set the system preference Cataloging / OpacSuppression to 'Hide' (at
this point, until you execute the next steps, OPAC searches are broken).
4. Edit the records to be suppressed: set subfield 942$n to the authorised
value 'Suppressed'.
5. Rebuild Zebra (this is necessary for an initial build of the required
index).
6. Test that OPAC searches in general are not broken. Test that the
suppressed records are not returned by OPAC search.
A suppressed record will be found by a search in the staff client but not
by a search in the OPAC. Note the entire record is suppressed including
all items.
Once this is set up, then the catalogue must contain at least one
suppressed item, or OPAC searches will be broken.

Hope this helps.

[Koha] Fwd: Seeking Z39.50 targets for Portuguese material in Marc21 format

2015-08-26 Thread Irma Birchall
Hi Del,

Just a quick hello and a note about language filters ...

To be able to filter in Advance Search by language, you will need to have
the language reference for each resources in 008/35-37 and 041$a.
http://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd041.html and perhaps also in
http://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd546.html

For Eglish use "eng"
For Indonesian use "ind"
For Tetum use "tet"
For Portuguese use "por"

The language abbreviations are in lower case as upper case abbreviations
are for countries.

To be able to list these languages in A-Z order of their English name, you
will need to adjust their order in the list in the system preference:
AdvancedSearchLanguages

I hope this makes sense.

All the best!

The Xanana Gusmao Reading Room is Dili's (Timor-Leste) only public library
and we are adding our collection onto Koha. Our collection is in English,
Indonesian, Tetum and Portuguese languages.
We need a longer list of Z39.5 targets for our Portuguese collection, adult
and children's material, fiction and non-fiction, in marc21 format, or
alternatively a way to convert unimarc records to marc21 records.
Appreciate any thoughts,

Hi Koha community,

We can let you know that Joann is now on her way. Following a small but
enthusiastic gathering at the Koha-OZ meetup in Sydney last night, we
delivered Joann to the airport this morning. Her next stop is Malaysia.

Dear Malaysian Koha Community

Joann is looking forward to coming to you next.

Thanks Jo for your visit and presentation about Koha in Sydney.

Re: [Koha] Slightly OT: Cataloging Comics

2017-07-09 Thread Irma Birchall
Hi Chad,

This is how one library has handled their badges collection.
Sorted by subject and with a local cover image added.
See here:
https://jsnwl.calyx.net.au/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=Badge+collection+relating+to+Australian+women
Also check out the Images tab.
Currently their Item Type is "Archives-Collection", perhaps they will have
their own Item Type "Badge" one day.

Hope this helps.

Interesting question.

It is not possible to make particular Character Positions in the marc21

It is sourced from here: http://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd008.html

Only the 008 field can be made Mandatory.
How to get there: Home

 › BK-A framework structure

 › Tag 008 subfield structure

Edit subfields constraints

Hi All,

I wish to acknowledge Strategic Data's contributions to the Koha community.

Strategic Data (Australia) were one of the earliest committers to Koha
and along the years contributed new features developed for clients into
the standard Koha package.
They started implementing Koha in libraries in Australia in 2001-2002
and these libraries are still using Koha today.

Adam was a valued mentor and advisor to me when I started providing Koha

Re: [Koha] RDA Toolkit

2012-01-15 Thread Irma Birchall
Hi Lori and others interested in cataloguing,

Thanks Lori for raising this topic.
Can we schedule a time to be in #Koha so that we can discuss the way
forward re RDA for Koha?
A good time for me would be Sydney 20/1 @ 7.55am
Would this time suit others?

We have seen you about on IRC but have not had the opportunity to converse
directly. Welcome to the Koha community.

We welcome your efforts to lead your organisation towards the community
after so many years and we wish you well. You will benefit from not having
to maintain your fork and the community will benefit from the participation
of your customers. Well done.

I'm aware that you hold one or more trademarks of the Koha name in
Australia. This is not in the spirit of the project, in our opinion. Koha
belongs to the community, through its copyright holders. The community has
nominated Horowhenua Library Trust to hold property of the Koha project. I
recommend you have a discussion with Jo Ransom about these trademarks. We
don't want another Liblime-like episode any time soon.

CALYX has no objection to the listing.
Again, welcome.

Irma

Re: [Koha] Vendor number in serials records

I think like Bernardo 037 for the vendor name and number. This subfield is

subscription info .
I would choose $n and make that subfield in the Serials Framework mandatory
and set it so that this info does not show in the OPAC.
