Paul,

You are so sweet!!! I am taking a new job, but I am not going away from
Koha. I promise to stay involved as much as I can! And just FYI - I'm not
moving from Austin :) I'll still be working at home - so none of that
Raleigh stuff will happen :p

[Koha] Patron Import Documentation

2015-05-07 Thread Nicole Engard
Hi all,

The patron import documentation appears to be out of date:
http://translate.koha-community.org/manual/3.18/en/html-desktop/#patronimport

I have some questions though.

1. Where do patron attributes go? They aren't in the notes on the side anymore
2. Since userid has to be unique do you have to fill it in - I would
assume 2 blanks would be 'not unique'
3. What if I have borrowernumbers? It looks like you can't import them
anymore - and if you see the note in the manual you used to be able
to
4. Do you see anything else wrong with the documentation?

Thanks

Thanks Jonathan, I think that clarifies, I'm going to send it to the

add it to the manual!

Thanks again!

[Koha] Jenkins the Manual

2015-04-30 Thread Nicole Engard
Hi all,

I don't know who manages this so I'm sorry to email everyone, but the
manual on Jenkins is a big screwy.

http://jenkins.koha-community.org/

The 3.18 branch is missing and the master branch fails all the time
but it generates the HTML and PDFs a-ok and shows no errors when I
validate in Oxygen. Eventually the failures stop and it passes - so I
know nothing is wrong with the manual itself, I wonder if something is
screwy with the fact that the wrong branches are being checked.

You could something like CONCAT_WS(' BR

I don't know of a way you can easily get around guessing on the number, that

Re: [Koha] Serial Subscription Help

2015-03-26 Thread Nicole Engard
What about creating a custom frequency, is there any way to do it in there
without having to make edits to the predicted dates?

Nicole

On Thu, Mar 19, 2015 at 10:25 AM, Gaetan Boisson
gaetan.bois...@biblibre.com wrote:

  Hi Nicole,

the pattern you describe is between two times a month and once every two
weeks actually. It's not the same thing since we don't have exactly four
 weeks per month.

Looking at the link you gave and a calendar (for 2015), it seems this
publication is issued once every other tuesday. (It looks like it is first
and third tuesdays of every month like Julian said.)
But then, you can have 3 tuesdays in one month, which is what's happening
for march 2015. Issue 7 should be on the 31st of March if we were truly
publishing one issue once every two weeks. I'd say the serial is published
every other tuesday but twice a month no matter what. In this case you'll
have to manage it as an irregularity : the publication skips one week if
there are 3 tuesdays in one month, and this is too complicated to be
supported by the serials module by itself.

What i would do is set up this serial with a once every two weeks
frequency, and the 7th of January as the first issue publication date. It
would look alright until issue 7, which would be planned for the 31st of
March, and the next issue being 2 weeks after it would be scheduled for the
14th of April and everything onwards would be screwed.
I would save the subscription this way, after receiving number 6, Koha
would generate number 7, for the 31st of March. Before receiving it (i
think you could do it when receiving it too), i'd edit this serial, and
change the publication date to the 7th of April (which is my guess at how
this publication works). This way, the next issues generated will be based
on this date, and the subscription will be back on track. You'll have to do
this everytime you have 3 tuesdays in the same month.

The rest of the model looks fine to me, and the numbers should increment
 and roll properly.

 Hope that helps,

 Hi all,

 I have this subscription: http://annals.org/issues.aspx

You can see the the numbering/dates should look like this:

 Jan 7 160 (1)
 Jan 21 160 (2)
 Feb 4 160 (3)
 Feb 18 160 (4)
 Mar 4 160 (5)
 Mar 18 160 (6)
 Apr 1 160 (7)
 Apr 15 160 (8)
 May 6 160 (9)
 May 20 160 (10)
 Jun 3 160 (11)
 Jun 17 160 (12)
 Jul 1 161 (1)
 Jul 15 161 (2)
 Aug 5 161 (3)
 Aug 19 161 (4)
 Sep 2 161 (5)
 Sep 16 161 (6)
 Oct 7 161 (7)
 Oct 21 161 (8)
 Nov 4 161 (9)
 Nov 18 161 (10)
 Dec 2 161 (11)
 Dec 16 161 (12)

But when I put it in I get this: http://screencast.com/t/0PTXDxJC (note
that the dates on the pattern on the right don't match the dates above -
 the numbering is right though)

How do I set up a pattern for 2 times a month?

 Thanks a bunch in advance!
 Nicole

[Koha] Documentation Mirror on Github

2015-03-20 Thread Nicole Engard
Hi all,

I'm not sure who manages the git repos so I'm sending this out to all. The
Koha repository on Github (https://github.com/Koha-Community/Koha) is
updating regularly with new commits, I'd like the same for the
documentation repository (https://github.com/Koha-Community/kohadocs).\

This is done using hooks

I'm not sure who has management rights to the documentation repo, but if
someone could set this up I'd be grateful - or if someone can tell me if I
can do it I'd be happy to learn.

2015-03-19 Thread Nicole Engard
Hi all,

I have this subscription: http://annals.org/issues.aspx

You can see the the numbering/dates should look like this:

Jan 7 160 (1)
Jan 21 160 (2)
Feb 4 160 (3)
Feb 18 160 (4)
Mar 4 160 (5)
Mar 18 160 (6)
Apr 1 160 (7)
Apr 15 160 (8)
May 6 160 (9)
May 20 160 (10)
Jun 3 160 (11)
Jun 17 160 (12)
Jul 1 161 (1)
Jul 15 161 (2)
Aug 5 161 (3)
Aug 19 161 (4)
Sep 2 161 (5)
Sep 16 161 (6)
Oct 7 161 (7)
Oct 21 161 (8)
Nov 4 161 (9)
Nov 18 161 (10)
Dec 2 161 (11)
Dec 16 161 (12)

But when I put it in I get this: http://screencast.com/t/0PTXDxJC (note
that the dates on the pattern on the right don't match the dates above -
the numbering is right though)

How do I set up a pattern for 2 times a month?

Thanks a bunch in advance!
Nicole

PS. This will go in the manual.

Free for commercial use isn't a Koha-compatible license. For example,
there are many people using Koha in a non-commercial library, and so
wouldn't be allowed to use it. I know, that sounds a bit silly, but
that's literally what the (poor excuse for a) license says.

Additionally, it'd be nice that if we had icons, they allowed derivative
works to be made, so we can modify them to suit more, change colours to
 fit a theme, etc.

The absolute ideal would be CC-BY-SA, as that's a very close analogue
with the GPL, but most CC licenses would work provided it doesn't
 include Non-Commercial or No-Derivatives.

[Koha] Report help

2015-02-11 Thread Nicole Engard
Hi all,

I'm looking for a report to give the average age of the collection in
a few item types. This report runs but isn't right:

SELECT i.itype, avg(b.pubdate REGEXP '^[0-9]+$') as average
FROM items i left join (select biblionumber, ExtractValue(marcxml,
'//datafield[@tag=264]/subfield[@code=c]') as pubdate from
biblioitems where ExtractValue(marcxml,
'//datafield[@tag=264]/subfield[@code=c]') is not null and
ExtractValue(marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=264]/subfield[@code=c]')
!= '' union all select biblionumber, copyrightdate as pubdate from
biblio where copyrightdate is not null) b using (biblionumber) where
i.itype in ('JBK','JPLUS') group by i.itype

Also on large collections it takes too long to run so any more
efficient suggestions are welcome - I am terrible at math :)

2014-11-30 Thread Nicole Engard
The info you need regarding size is right here:
http://manual.koha-community.org/3.16/en/catalogtools.html#uploadlocalimages
in short there is no size restriction applied. Also The source image
is used to generate a 140 x 200 px thumbnail image and a 600 x 800 px
full-size image. The original sized image uploaded will not be stored
by Koha

Hope that helps,

Arslan,

I agree the wiki is lacking in instructions, right now I don't have
time to update that. So what I'd say is you can help by sending me
text documents with edits to areas of the manual or if someone who has
used docbook and the manual git repo could give you instructions on
that that would help me.

I promise that once I get the manual ready for 3.18 I will spend time
updating the wiki. It has just been a crazy few months for me.

[Koha] Question about how Notices work in 3.16

2014-08-14 Thread Nicole Engard
Hi all,

I got a good question about notices in 3.16 that I don't know the answer
to. As always the answer will go in the manual once I have it :)

In the Overdue notice/status triggers tool, if we just put a check mark
in just the Email column, will an overdue notice be printed for people
with out email? If we put a check in both the Email and Print columns,
does Koha send the patron both an email and a printed notice?

I think there is a bug right now where the print isn't generated at all -
but I'd like the theoretical answer so that we have it documented when the
bug is fixed :)

Re: [Koha] magnifying glass next to authorities in the opac

Tomas,

Actually this isn't the preference (and maybe there is no preference). I
have it set to Don't use and I see the magnifying glass here:
http://model.bywatersolutions.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=109078
and not here:
http://model.bywatersolutions.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=33040

I think Bernardo's explanation makes sense - if there isn't a subfield 9 on
the field then the magnifying glass doesn't appear. Does that sound right
to everyone?

It means to create a new framework by grabbing it from somewhere else. So
you have a framework that some else created and you add it to your system

from someone else and putting it on your system.

 2) What does it mean the word another in the proposition:

An easy way to create a new framework is to import it from another
Koha database ? Is it a database from other Koha installation ? Or, maybe,
it is a database from current Koha installation ?

Any other Koha database. Another one you have or one someone else has. I'll
try to clarify that in the manual.

 3) Where can I know from what file is a Spreadsheet file in the dialog

It says on the dialog box in parenthesis that a spreadsheet file is csv,

[Koha] Looking for more Serials Documentation help

2014-06-05 Thread Nicole Engard
Hello all,

With the new serials module in Koha 3.14 we have a lot of questions coming
in and my documentation is not thorough enough because I admit I haven't
had time to really dig deep in to it.

I'm wondering if I could enlist some of you to submit patches to the manual
for this section and/or send me documentation in other formats that you'd
like me to include in the manual.

The big issues are:

* The lack of the 'rollover' is very confusing to people - rollover made
sense and people have been using it for ages so now the 'inner counter' is
causing all kinds of questions and while I know how to fill it in to make
things work (sometimes) I don't really understand it either.

* This email I got: My staff reports, and I confirmed sitting next to
them, going through the steps, that the manual for the serials module is
not as helpful as hoped for. In particular, it would be very helpful to
have several step by step examples on how to setup a serial (a couple or
three, with different publishing patterns) that could be applied to our
subscriptions. For example, the manual has a section for setting up new
numbering patterns, but the screen shots are blank. A concrete example
with explanations on every field to fill out -- say for a pattern that is
year/volume/issue would go a very long way and should address most
questions. Of course, we were and are further confused by the fact that
data we enter and save in the patterns isn't actually saved, but that seems
to be a broader problem affecting us right now and not specific to the
serials module.

* The fact that you can't edit the manual history unless you have the
'manual history' box checked when creating the subscription - when before
we could edit it at any time also confusing.

So, if you understand and/or use the current serials module in 3.14 or 3.16
I'd love to hear from you with edits to the manual to help Koha users

$(document).ready(function(){
if (window.location.href.indexOf(cgi-bin/koha/mainpage.pl)  -1) {

Ideally the pictures would be made available under something like a

A set of pictures like this seems like it would be fun and useful to have

[Koha] Interesting report request

2014-03-31 Thread Nicole Engard
I think this can be done - but I'm not sure how to tackle it. I got
this request for a report to find items that probably got missed at
checkin so the staff can go look to the shelves to find these items.

The question was - could we take the set of patrons who had items due
during a three day period (today, tomorrow and yesterday?)

And limit that to patrons who we have actual recorded checkins for
during that time period and then produce a list of other items that
these patrons had checked out that were due during the same three day
period and generate this list of items --- in order to do a quick
check to see if we actually received them but missed checking them in?

Ideas?
