I had one of 1063 vendor records and it worked fine.

Is there a suggested max number of records that the Stage MARC for Import tool
can handle at one time?

Thanks,

[Koha] Display question

2015-10-29 Thread Tim Skeers

Is there an easy way to get the biblionumber of a record to display somewhere
on the "normal" view for a record in the staff interface? Or would it require
an actual programming change?

As it is, it displays in the URL in the browser navigation window, but I would
like to be able to print out a record with it showing on the printout.

Thanks,

Tim

[Koha] Hello

2013-02-22 Thread Tim Skeers
Recently I subscribed to the list, and the welcome message suggested a short
post introducing myself so I thought I would do that. I hope I am using the
right address!

I am a cataloger at Iowa Library Services, the agency formerly (and sort of
still) known as the State Library of Iowa. We are a division under the State
Department of Education. The new name reflects a reorganization that brought a
formerly separate, statewide commission of regional library service areas and
us together into the same agency. We run a depository program for State of Iowa
government publications and my main job is to catalog them. It is mostly
original cataloging but some copy cataloging as well. I also handle anything
else that turns up needing original cataloging and I do some work with
retrospective projects in the State Law Library collections.

The reason for joining the list is that we are in the process of transitioning
our catalog from Sirsi/Dynix Horizon to Koha. We have been learning quite a bit
but there is a lot yet to learn and a lot of work ahead of us for a successful
conversion. I have some questions right now that I am thinking of posting to
the list but plan to peruse the archives a little more first to see if I can
find some of what I need there.

Koha seems very cool so far and we are looking forward to being in the
community, even with all the work it will take to get there!

Best,

Tim

[Koha] New framework

2013-10-10 Thread Tim Skeers
I did a couple of things with frameworks that I am wondering about.

First, I know it is not recommended to edit the default framework. Momentarily
forgetting that, I added some new tags. Then I deleted them all. So I should be
OK with the default framework now?

Second, I created a new framework using the default as the template. I added
some RDA fields. When I import records, then pull them up in the staff
interface, and click on "MARC" for display format, they are all there, but not
necessarily showing up under the correct numeric tab but just scattered around
in the record. Is this OK? Will it cause any problems? So far, the OPAC display
seems to look OK.

Thanks,

Tim

[Koha] Message from import of records

2013-10-15 Thread Tim Skeers
We are running version 3.10.09.000. In the summary table after an import, I had
a line that was "number of items ignored because of duplicate barcode: 1". Is
there a way to see what the barcode is? Or for that matter, if it came back
with ignored bib records, etc.? The reports library has a lot of item reports,
but none that seemed to fit that exactly.

Thanks,

Tim

[Koha] Using EasyAnalytics in Koha

2013-11-05 Thread Tim Skeers
I am wondering if the EasyAnalytics feature only works with serials? The
documentation in chapter 6, section 1.2, mentions "articles within monographs"
as something that can be analyzed. We have a lot of old monographs that have
been bound together for which I want to provide individual bibliographic
access, and it sounded like the EasyAnalytics feature would do that. But when I
import my parent and "bound in" bibs as monographs, it doesn't seem to work. I
tried coding BLvl "c" for the parent and "a" for the individual titles and that
didn't work either.

It only seems to work for BLvl "s" in the parent item, which also makes the
record say "continuing resource" in the catalog. I don't want to code it that
way, because it isn't. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tim

[Timothy Skeers] I don't think it's the case anymore (haven't checked the
schedules), but at one time one of the major airlines had a regularly scheduled
flight between San Francisco and Oakland. There was even a short news feature
done on one of the network news shows, about the time the flight was going to
be discontinued. They are about 12 miles apart, which would make it only
slightly less ridiculous than taking a flight between the Buenos Aires airports.

[Koha] Question about cover images

2014-10-31 Thread Tim Skeers
We are running 3.16.03.000

There is a default thumbnail on bib records with no cover images that says "no
cover image available." When I upload cover images, the uploaded one appears,
but the "no cover image available" one is still there, right below it, in both
the public and staff interface. I am checking the option box to "replace
existing covers." Any ideas how to get rid of this default filler image?

Thanks,

Tim

[Koha] catalog search question

2015-02-04 Thread Tim Skeers
Is there any way to "promote" a particular bib record so that it shows up first
in a search results list?

My specific example is "code of iowa." Even as a title phrase search, it comes
up as no. 45 is a list of 192 results. For the average public user, it might as
well not even be in the catalog. I hope that they would ask a librarian, but
I'm wondering if there is some way to push it into at least the first 10
results.

Thanks,

Tim
