[Koha] 3.8.4 Error message when editing authorities

2012-09-02 Thread Elaine Bradtke
This is what I get when I edit an authority record. No major edit, I
only added a space after an initial.:

"An error has occurred!
Error 500
In Koha this typically means that the Koha team is working on new features
Wait while system maintenance is being done or email the Koha administrator.
Use top menu bar to navigate to another part of Koha."

If you go back to look at the MARC the change is there, but when it
displays in the hit list after searching authorities, it displays the
old version.
Does this mean we're still having indexing problems?

It also doesn't update the other records linked to this authority as it should.

This sounds to me like an issue with the merge functionality [update: this
IS a problem with the merge functionality, based on your follow-up e-mail].
There was a bug with the merge functionality until 3.8.4 (bug 8576). I know
you just updated one of your servers to 3.8.4, though, which confuses me.
Is this on a server that wasn't updated yet?

If waiting until the cronjob runs doesn't resolve the indexing issue, I
suspect the error probably occurred before the authority was added to the
zebraqueue, but I don't have any evidence to back me up on this.

Jared

2012-09-02 Thread Mark Tompsett

Greetings,

You may wish to look in the koha error logs for a timestamp around the time
that happened. I'd tell you where they are, but they may differ based on the
type of installation you did (packages, git, tarball).

tarball: /var/log/koha/koha-error_log
I think packages is: /var/log/koha//koha-error_log
I think git is: ~/koha-dev/... -- you don't have a git, since this is likely
a production system. :)

If you find something, feel free to post it in a bug report:
http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/

And then post here that you did, so someone can go look at it.

GPML,
Mark Tompsett

I reproduced your 500 error and found these in the logfile. ZOOM is a
zebra lookup error.
[Sun Sep 02 23:38:10 2012] [error] [client 75.149.175.233] ZOOM error 25

The actual authority record was updated (here I added a bogus 'J').

A search in Authorities for 'Bearman" returns this (the old contents), but
following details gets updated record:
Authority search results

Results 1 to 1 of 1
Summary Used in Delete Bearman, C. J.
Details

biblio(s)

Biblios are likewise not update with the new text.
Running 'rebuild_zebra.pl -a -r -v' fixed the Authority search results, but
not the biblios, in particular the 700 field where Bearman is listed as a
secondary author.
Same issue if I modify the primary author Authority on a biblio, the
biblios are not updated with the changed content.

This seems to be a new problem after the move from 3.6.2 to 3.8.4.

The key preference here is actually the dontmerge syspref. Other
preferences in the Authorities tab have no impact on merge. However, merge
and Zebra don't actually work together at all. The 500 error you
encountered presumably was hit *before* the bibs were updated, so no amount
of reindexing is going to change that. I have the glimmerings of an idea
about what might be going on, though. I wonder if this isn't a side effect
of the "links to authorities no longer showing up" problem you were having.
What I would probably do is rerun link_bibs_to_authorities.pl on a test
server, and see if you are then able to edit authorities without these
errors.

Could you please confirm the exact version listed in About Koha on this
server? I know we've already been over this, but I like to double check
these things.

Regards,
Jared

We still get the same errors after running
link_bibs_to_authorities.plfollowed by
rebuild_zebra.pl -b -a -r
The authorities not showing up was caused by duplicate control numbers. We
have cleared up that problem.

Re: [Koha] 3.8.4 Error message when editing authorities

2012-09-09 Thread Jared Camins-Esakov
It took me a week, but I found the problem when testing bug 8304 (which,
incidentally, is a very cool feature that might allow MARC21 libraries to
use freefloating subject division authorities). The merge function uses XML
syntax, which we lost support for sometime during the development cycle for
3.8.0. Fortunately it's an easy fix, and I'll have a patch momentarily. I
reported a bug here:
http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=8743

If you wanted to sign off on the patch which I'm about to post, that'd be
super keen.

Regards,
Jared
