[Koha] Barcode and spine label printing in Koha
Is it possible to print both barcodes and spine labels on the same sheet? I see Gaylord has a label set, Gaylord LSL04 for both barcode and spine labels. If so, does someone have a template for this or similar? Since Koha uses MySQL as a backend for the data, one can use any number of programs that have open database connectivity to access the data and print custom reports and labels. I am most familiar with MS Access as a good front end for making nice reports and labels. I have also set up LibreOffice/OpenOffice Base as a front end to the data to make custom reports and labels. This is how we do patron cards. One of these days I'll post my database frontend on the wiki with a how to. Once the open database connectors are installed, it is simply a matter of connecting to the database with the right password. I give only read privileges to this database so as not to mess up any of the MySQL data. It is some learning to become familiar with database front ends, but once you get the basics down, you can customize to your heart's content without needing to know any code. David, So far as I know, that is not possible at present. I know some libraries who are using that type of label use OCLC's Connexion software to print out their labels. J* *** ** ** In all of the work I have done on the labels code, I have never worked with the 'alternating' layout option. I think this was originally intended to do this sort of label. That's what it looks like in the code at least. You could give it a try and see. I'm sure it will take some work at developing a template which will work correctly with the LSL04 set. Hi Jared, I see your point, even though you could probably give the correct dimensions of the sheet and choose the proper starting point for the label you probably could only do only one barcode at a time, assuming the sheet is ordered spine label, barcode label on the same row(s). After a quick look, this is not possible due to the current limitations in the template interface. Expanding the template interface to accommodate this sort of thing would not be too difficult. Assuming the 'alternating' layout type works as expected, the changes to the template interface would be all that was needed. I've opened a bug for such an enhancement. Although I haven't tried this with koha, with other library software a good workable solution is to export the label fields as a .csv and then import them into a word processor, where it's easy to format for labels. The labels she had (from Gaylord, I think) had 8 sets of labels per page; a spine label followed by two equal sized labels. We printed the call number, author and title in the first one and the call number, title and barcode in the second. Then we got Gaylord LSL04 labels which have 12 sets of labels per page. I wrote a drop-in replacement for labelprint.pl to handle both of them plus standard address labels 3x10 per sheet for my home library. It's not customizable except by changing the code, which shouldn't be too difficult. But it does the job.
