Although we do have two branches, we don't have a lot of books in transit, so we wouldn't see our local use inflated much from books in transit. Given that, we see no problem in changing the way local use works to not count books in transit. However, we would still like books that have a hold on them to have a local use recorded when checked in. For us, it's just a matter of how our library works and the way we use holds. Given that, I'd like to recommend that if changes are made, they be made as additional system preferences to allow libraries the option to opt in our out of the changes. I can agree on both sides about staff handling books that are transferred. I think the absolute best solution for this issue is that there needs to be a new admin option on what to count as local use. One could argue, if scanning a book that is returning from a transfer is local use, than why wouldn't inventory scanning? Why is handling and scanning in one situation different from another? But then again, if you are only wanting to get a count of actual patron uses outside of issues, why count non patron handling? Sorting is enabled on the 'Items' column which uses a custom sorting routine to sort the callnumbers. If the sort is ascending, each column will be sorted by the highest ordered callnumber for that row. Likewise, if the sort is descending the table will be sorted by the lowest valued callnumber for that row. Item information (library, shelving location, and call number) is moved to a table nested in each row. Location and call number columns in this table are sortable. The patch converts table sorting to DataTables (in a race with Bug 9449). The patch does not attempt to make the larger table of titles sortable by call number. To test, add multiple titles to the staff client cart which have multiple items each. The table of titles should still be sortable by title and item type. The table of items in each row should be sortable by location and call number. The purpose of recording "local" or "in-house" use is to allow libraries to count how many items are used in the library but not checked out. Turning on this system preference gives libraries a more efficient way of tracking these items instead of having to create a statistical user and check out "local use" items to this user. If libraries need to track how many times an item is "handled" without being checked out, one solution is to have two settings for this system preference. To illustrate: we examine MARC21 300$a; if it contains multiple parts/volumes, but there is only one item, we ask the user to specify a part. 3) Allow a additional number of days (one or two) in advance when pulling and confirming holds. (Time for arranging transport from depot, etc.) 4) A cron job for mailing reading room personnel 'holds to pull'-reports. 5) In analogy with ShelvingCart functionality, put a temporary MOVE-indication into shelving location for cancelled holds. These books should be moved from the waiting shelves to the "return shelves" for transport back to depot. Instead, it will prompt for the parameters again and shows the first page of output. This normalization is only used for UNIMARC and yields a fatal error when those variables are set on (at least) MARC21 setups. This pref would be useful for making certain customizations to spine labels.
