[kopete-devel] The way of sending messages in Kopete

2006-06-26 Thread Guillaume BERAUDO
Hello, Kopete hard workers,

My girlfrien has started using Kopete to get yahoo support on gnu/linux. I was
quite astonished as lot of features have been implemented and are usable with
old versions of the official Yahoo client. That's a greet work.

Now let's go to the problem:
I have not found the way to send a single message to a contact not in roster
(Yahoo). Neither by trying each menu, reading the documentation (dated 2004),
the FAQ or searching on the forum. It seemed to her very important to be able
to send a one shot only message. I understand why:
- Adding a contact in the list means acceptation negociation
- moreover it allows the remote user to see the presence and probably other
things.

Why don't you provide this possibility? If it is a multi-account problem, it is
possible to ask the user from which account to send the message.

If you are too busy because concentrating on Jabber integration, then of course
I'll understand. (^^)
Have fun developing Kopete; I have not subscribed to the list so please don't
forget to add me in the receivers.

Guillaume

And I also specifically said that you could ask kde-core-devel for the
exception and ask more people if you wanted. It was pretty clear that it
was I against everyone else on the list.

But I still hold my position that a full backport is risky, unless you get
someone to review the entire thing.

[kopete-devel] [Bug 129879] New: Problems using 2 MSN Accounts & Removing 1

2006-06-26 Thread Allan Caplan
--- You are receiving this mail because: ---

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129879
Summary: Problems using 2 MSN Accounts & Removing 1
   Product: kopete
   Version: 0.11.1
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kopete-devel kde org
ReportedBy: allan13 gmail com

Version: 0.11.1 (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages
OS:Linux

Here's the problem:

1 MSN accounts. 1 has 50 contacts, organized in 5 folders. 1 has 5 contacts, no
folders.

Appears A-OK in kopete

Remove first MSN account (with 50 contacts)

Folders remain, listing 0/x contacts each. Expanding the folder shows the
little head icons, with nothing next to them.

Clicking on the bogus entries produces an error saying the user is not
available at the moment.

Unfortunately, deleting these folders actually updates the original MSN
account, those folders are now deleted.

Backporting Kopete 0.12.1 was effectively vetoed by Thiago in the discussion
about releasing 0.12.1 on the Kopete list. We basically wanted to merge the
0.12 branch into the KDE 3.5. Thiago said that we'd have to do seperate
patches, so no effort was made for the backport.

The server is now up again.

The machine crashed after 410 days of uptime.
It was just a bit hard to reach someone who can reboot the machine.

Let's hope that will not reproduce anymore.

There is maybe a problem in Kopete ... or not ;-)

What we did worked before. now it doesn't work anymore.
Is it because a konqueror change, or an hotmail change, or a kopete change ?

In all case, I don't know where the problem is exactly, so i'm unable to repair
it.

Olivier, please explain why you marked the bug in kopete a duplicate of this
bug.

There used to be a bug in konqueror so that you were unable to use hotmail with
konqueror. Now it's only a problem with autologin from Kopete. Why shouldn't
this be filed as a seperate bug in konqueror?

[kopete-devel] [Bug 121936] Kopete can't display MSN user icons from Adium users

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=121936

--- Additional Comments From djart linux gr 2006-06-26 19:05 ---
Yes, it's reproducable in Kopete 0.12 as well.

However, I don't know what's the gain from reporting it to Adium developers.
Their default policy is to redirect such kind of bugs (engine bugs) to Gaim
developers since Adium is libgaim based.

But here is the funny part. MS MSN can display Adium buddy icons. Gaim can also
display Adium buddy icons. Kopete can display MS MSN and Gaim buddy icons, but
cannot display Adium. It seems complicated as to where this bug finally belongs
:-/ Any new suggestions or the idea of reporting this to Adium remains the same
?

I have a feeling that MSN, Gaim and Kopete comply with whatever the MSN
protocol defines for transmitting a buddy icon (such as the image size or
something like that). Perhaps Adium does not, so Kopete refuses to display it
whereas the other client accept to bend the protocol rules a little bit in
order to display it. I don't know, this is just a wild guess (that came to me
if I remember correct by browsing similar bugs in Kopete bugzilla when I first
filled in this bug).

0.12.1 no, it should be released at the end of this month.

But i plan to ask on kde-core-devel for putting Kopete 0.12.2 in KDE 3.5.4
We will have enough tests after two released versions.

(almost all kopete developper I have asked have said they are pro)

My main problem; the wording being 'addressbook' instead of 'contactlist' is
not present in this dialog. So thats good.

I think the checkbox to allow a user to add the contact to his/her contactlist
should not be supplied. Its confusing and I doubt that enough users want to
have others see his/her status but not see it themselves to warrent this
feature. After all; you can always delete a contact later. (less widgets is
good).

Oh, and a minor thing; the 2 label/textfield combinations should be in one
groupbox so they line up.

[kopete-devel] [Bug 65181] support emoticons in contact list

Hi is it possible to reopen this?

It should not be very hard to implement this as kopete already renders the
emoticons in the away messages in the tooltips. e.g. see:
http://www.iis.ee.ic.ac.uk/~p.veskos/x/kopete.png
In the image, it is fine for the away message but not rendered for the contact
name in the contact list.

BTW 0.12 rocks :)

This does happen to me with my ICQ account since today - and Gaim indeed seems
not to suffer from this problem. Friends of mine using the original client,
Trillian or Miranda don't seem to be affected either.
I don't use AIM, so no idea about that.

[kopete-devel] [Bug 129852] New: AuthRequest dialog for ICQ doesn't appear

--- You are receiving this mail because: ---
You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee.

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129852
Summary: AuthRequest dialog for ICQ doesn't appear
   Product: kopete
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kopete-devel kde org
ReportedBy: onety-three gmx net

Version: 0.12.0 (using KDE KDE 3.5.3)
Installed from:Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc (GCC) 3.4.6 (Gentoo 3.4.6, ssp-3.4.5-1.0, pie-8.7.9)

OS:Linux

Simple problem - if a contact asks via ICQ for my authorization to add me to
his contact list Kopete doesn't notify me if that specific contact is not on my
own list already.
The event obviously gets caught, I can see the debug messages (with UIN and
reason) belonging to it in the console.

To emphasize that again: As soon as I add the contact to my own list and he
asks for authorization again I do get notified.

It's a nasty bug as you don't notice it until people start complaining because
they waited several weeks for their authorizations =/

I'm busy chopping up the diff per-protocol so we can mutually approve each
part and backport it, then we get i18n and no mess.

What powers are that? I'm pretty suprised as we set up the lowered feature
freeze to avoid exactly this mess with missing translations.

Finally a satisfying answer (as in: it answers my question), thanks for that.
It's a shame this was never been set up, but I wonder what that involves.
Would that only be an adaption to Scripty to process the messages in the 0.12
branch? (more a question to all readers)

If there are no more complications, we could think of a language pack, where
we give the teams, say, a month the time to complete the translations and
ship it then.

Kopete 0.12.1 will not be in KDE 3.5.4. We've already asked. The powers that
be said 'no'. There will be no translations for Kopete 0.12. Nobody did the
work of setting them up. This situation will only change if somebody does the
work to set them up so they can be translated.

*shrug* Yeah right. I wonder where you got that from.

I don't think there's much point in asking you anymore. *If* there will be a
