KR> stobe light

2008-10-21 Thread tiger7...@juno.com
I was wondering if anyone know a Dave Baker?. A few years ago he came up with
a strobe light made from a Kodak camera , it was simple, I would like to make
one just to try it out . If you should know him or have a copy of his drawing I
would like a copy..

KR> Sonerai IIL

2008-10-21 Thread laser...@juno.com
For those building a KR and don't have anything to fly in the
meantime, I've got an idea for you. Ken Cottle, the builder of my KR-1½
which many of you know from when Steve Bennett owned it, has recently
finished a Sonerai IIL and has it for sale on Barnstormer's. Ken has got
the bug to build a Thatcher CX-4, a really nice looking metal taildragger
that takes a VW engine.

Do a search on Barnstormers for Sonerai II and you'll see his Sonerai.

http://www.barnstormers.com/

Ken says he needs to sell the Sonerai for monetary reasons (to build the
Thatcher CX-4) and for hanger space. It is every bit as well-constructed
as my 20 year-old KR and needs nothing. It's beautifully finished,
registered, and flying and has great instrumentation. Even has a
Lowrance fuel flow meter. It'll never be worth less than what he's
asking for it, which is less than what he has in it . . . which seems to
be the normal situation. Those who build airplanes do it for the love of
building as clearly there's no profit in it. Ken builds museum quality
airplanes and indeed, has one I know of in a museum in Tulsa.

I took some pictures of his Sonerai IIL when I was visiting Ken on my
trip back to the Gathering. I've not tried to edit or organize them so
just sift through.

http://www.screenshots.cc/show/17189/9rcch

The Sonerai seems to do about the same as the KR. Two in tandem instead
of side-by-side, but speeds are the same from what I've read and heard.

***

For those of you building . . .

I flew over to Scottsdale last weekend and a couple of the sunrise photos
I took may be worth a look. It's a 5½ hour trip by car. Took me two
hours each way and 16 gallons of gas.

2008-10-21 Thread Darren Crompton
The Russian web site that was selling counterfeit plans for the KR and many
other popular homebuilt aircraft has been shut down and their ability to
process payments with PayPal and 2checkout has been removed.

Unfortunately the Brazilian thief is still at it on eBay. This was reported
to eBay last week but they have not yet taken action.

I would ask everyone to get on eBay's back about it by lodging a complaint
via their online reporting page.

KR> RE: vinylester

2008-10-21 Thread sidney.w...@l-3com.com
The Dan Diehl KR-2 wing skin kit uses vinyl ester resin construction. I
have installed the Diehl skin kit on my KR-2 using vinyl ester resin.
As detailed in the Diehl instructions, I installed fuel tanks in the
outer wing panels also using vinyl ester resin. Vinyl ester is superior
to epoxy for fuel tank construction.
Vinyl ester resin, when promoted with Cobol Napthanate by vendors, has a
short shelf life. Order only the quantity you will need for a
particular task and use it right away.
The vinyl ester resin emits styrene fumes during the curing process.
Your shop needs to have fresh air ventilation when using the vinyl ester
resin. You need to have a charcoal filter on your respirator rated for
organic fumes, or use a fresh air respirator system. Keep spectators
and pets out of the area when using vinyl ester resin. After the vinyl
ester is fully cured, you can work without the respirator.
Brian Kraut has purchased the rights to the Diehl skin kits and is
working to produce skin kits for the KR-2S. Contact Brian directly
br...@engalt.com to verify details on skin kits before making any
production commitments for your KR.

carrying around an airshow!?
If your cowling's not built yet, I don't see a problem with the prop hub
length because it'll just put your prop a little further out in front of the
plane

Yeh, the crank could stay in the car if it is possible to get out to see it (if
not no biggie).? The crank is turned 10/10 and magnafluxed. I don't think he
did a great radius job but then I really don't know about that. There is some
stains on the journals from pitting?which concerns me but car builders don't
care. (Don't know if I would fly behind it?) I was hoping if it is good to use
I could start doing what ever work on it it needs for the 5th bearing. I guess
if I use the prop hub as is I wont be able to use the hybrid studs that came
with it. I have some learning to do on the 5th bearing thing.
I will arrive at the fly in on Saturday at around 9:00 and be leaving for
Biloxi around 1:00.

2008-10-21 Thread STEVE bennett

For those talking about carb size, if you installed a tempoary line to a vacuum
gauge, you would know exactly when you were WOT. When the vacuum reads "0" you
have achieved about all the engine can flow (air capacity). A manfiold
pressure gauge will do close to the same. You won't find the magic number of
29.9 as intake manifold and carbs have restricitons, most read about 28.

I went through quite a learning curve to get my Posa carbuerator to work
properly. I had to shape the needle in such a way so that the fuel air ratio
was consistant through all throttle settings.
