You should also look for Trymer 2000. I found a supplier nearby a few years back, but they don't carry it anymore. Dave Mullins Nashua, NH Ronald E. KR> Re: Baffle 2180 VW Reverse Engine
Henry, Here is what I am doing with ducted cooling. I am using the standard VW cooling shrouds ($23/set at a VW performance shop) with a slight modification to connect to my homebuilt fiberglass ducts. The standard VW cooling shrouds will fit any displacement Beetle engine manufactured from 1939 to 2009. If you get the shrouds, get some metric screws. The VW heads have metric tapped lands to fasten the shrouds on, no mods, no muss, no fuss. All you have to do then is get air blasting into the top of the shrouds. Be sure to put the "Cool Tins" on the bottom of the cylinders. Get Cool Tins from Great Plains Aircraft Supply or the VW performance shop. Is this any help? http://websites.expercraft.com/sidwood/images/14606893384933483a906b4.jpg Sid Wood Tri-gear KR-2 N6242 Mechanicsville, MD, USA smw...@md.metrocast.net Can anybody give me advise on how to baffle a 2180 VW reverse engine? KR> Repairing/modifying VE cowls
Here is a quote from an RV8 builder "You may wonder about using epoxy to substantially modify a vinylester structure. Not only did Sam James tell me this was ok, but I called Gougeon Brothers, makers of the West System, and talked to their tech staff just to be sure. Since epoxy and vinyl ester are of the same chemical family they have similar properties with regard to expansion/contraction. They said that when grafting onto a cured vinyl ester structure, that epoxy adheres better than using vinylester resin. Therefore use the West System when glassing anything other than polyester, and even then minor repairs are ok."
