Mark

It would be nice if KR builders could bring their photo albums for others to
see what the building of a KR entails.

2009-07-22 Thread Larry H.
Hi Mark,
I think a short video from Mt Vernon and or a series of photos in a PowerPoint
presentation using the overhead projector during your presentation might be
nice to show some who might be there that have never seen a KR or have not
attended a Gathering. By the way, thanks for the presentations, they are always
great.  I have two of my children with me who say they might be willing to help
me put a KR PowerPoint presentation together here in the campground. I will
have to see if I have the software on my new computer to suit them. It is now
after midnight in Oshkosh and they might be delirious so I will let you know
tomorrow if you want us to proceed.

Somebody's certainly encouraged to tape it though.

Along those lines, I'm pretty pathetic about preparation (especially this
year, given that I'm still 5000 miles away), so are there any suggestions
for topics of discussion this year, or is everybody happy with the
on-the-fly stuff we do most years?

I do feel like we owe the odd straglers-in that want to learn if the KR is
for them or not a quick 10 minute "30,000 foot" view of what the KR is all
about, so we'll probably start out with that.

Again, topics and format opinions are welcome.  And I'd especially like for
the guys who've travelled half way around the world to stand up and
introduce themselves at the forum.

I think that's done every year, almost automatically. An audio-visual guy
always seems to show up and make sure we have a good mic and that something
in the cabinet is running, so that'd be my guess, but again I could be
wrong. I'm not sure but I'd guess it's for sale for a fairly nominal fee
(surely it couldn't cost more than a Coke and a burger at OSH,!).

Guys, I am in a pickle. I just went for a flight and my radio went silent. All
connections check out so I know it is not the wiring. Tried a another headset
too. I do not even get the static when I do the test on the radio. I need to
buy a radio tonight and have it shipped here NDA so I can fly over to Oshkosh
this weekend. What handheld radio do you guys like?

KR> RE: OSH weather

2009-07-22 Thread Larry H.
I am sitting in the campground at Oshkosh, it is raining, started yesterday,
according to weather.com the 10 day forecast is looking unfavorable. Wisconsin
has been a little dry according to locals and the rain is a welcome site but
for flyboys and the convention here in Oshkosh it may be a damper. This is my
31st year in a row at Oshkosh and I have seen rain come and go but I have never
seen this much rain in the forecast. Just maybe the forecast will change. In
years past during the convention there have been days when it rained all day
long until time for the evening airshow, it would clear up long enough for the
airshow then resume raining all evening. Many of us used to laugh and wonder
just how much power Paul Poberezny had !! Maybe he still has it this year !!
LOL

KR> New house update

2009-07-22 Thread jack.cooper2009

First thing, I'm not talking of replacing the KR gathering. It is (IMHO) idealy
located so that east and west coasters can make it. East Tennessee would be a
very long flight for west coast residents, although they would be more than
welcome if they want to fly in.  I'm trying to get a feel of when it should be,
and yes it may be 2009 or 2010. This is a busy time of year with Oshkosh, the
gathering and then the  holidays so doesn't leave much time for a fly-in so
maybe spring 2010 would be better.

KR> KRs at OSH

2009-07-22 Thread Mark Langford
NetHeads,

Last year there were complaints that there was nobody hanging around their
KRs to discusss them at OSH, and later in the week none were to be found at
all. I'd like to point out the KR Forum will be Monday at 1:00 in Pavillion
2 (check me on that) in the forum area. And if you want to see at least
three KRs at OSH this year, you'd better check before Tuesday or Wednesday
morning, because three of them are leaving OSH shortly after Monday,
depending on weather. I'm not sure where we'll be parked at this point, but
it'll be announced at the forum, and we can migrate over and take a look at
them from the forum, if you like.

You have to understand that OSH isn't really the place to see and talk
KRs...that place would be the KR Gathering in September (see
www.krgathering.org for details). Those of us who fly all the way to OSH
would rather look at other airplanes, exhibits, and vendors than stand
around in the hot sun waiting for somebody to come along and talk KRs, and
since we all have regular jobs, we can't afford to stay the whole week. But
again, the forum on Monday at 1:00 will be the place to connect up with
other KR builders and pilots.
