KR> KR2S qualify as LSA?
This topic has been well discussed at length. Go to the archives http://www.maddyhome.com/krsrch/search and type "LSA" into the search. You can probably build a KR in less time than it takes to read all the posts. Happy building. -- Darren Crompton AUSTRALIA My web site: www.kr-2s.com
KR> KR2S qualify as LSA?
I think that the biggest challenge is likely to be demonstrating a stall speed of less than 45kts (52mph). Then all that's left is to limit the max level speed at sea level to 120kts. Everything else is fine. It seems to me that this should all be entirely possible. KR> Re: Oshkosh
I just returned from Oshkosh last night and got on the internet. I drove again this year and stayed for the whole event. Once again it was wonderful. I have always camped at the YMCA because of all the benefits it offers. (Hot Tub, Swimming pool, Ice Skating, Gym, etc.) My KR2 is not flying yet (but getting real close), partially because I have spent a total of 49 days at Oshkosh and another 28 days total driving back and forth. Those 77 days could have put me flying by now. In spite of this I will attend next year. for the full seven days. Oshkosh provides technical information. The forums provide an exchange of information that is invaluable. Mark Langford's talk on KR2s was a must see. I attented many other seminars on building and flying. I visited WW's tent several times. I spent time in the AeroMax tent with Bill. I had several talks with Gus at the Zenith tent, I stoped by the Maxwell Propulsion Systems booth to look at their latest offerings. The social aspect is great. You literally see and talk with people from all over the world. Unlike flyins for specific planes you can meet people flying other types. This year I talked with Willie about KR2s in South Africa and also talked with a gentleman from Israel about his Cozy Mk 4. A friend from Canada joined me for a couple of days. Anyone with children or grandchildren knows Oshkosh is a great place to bring children to inspire them about aviation. Most of us have greying hair. Unless we get younger generations involved in flying, we will be the last generation to enjoy general aviation. I belong to both the EAA and AOPA. Both groups have people in Washington presenting our side of general aviation to the law-makers. It is partially because of the number of members the EAA and AOPA have that law-makers listen to them. Without our support of these orginzations fighting for our rights, we will soon see increased restrictions and fees put into place. I hope to see you all at next years AirVenture 2010.

There are four based at Butler County airport (KHAO) in Hamilton Ohio, home of EAA Chapter 974. Mine (KR2) is in the EAA hangar, awaiting the Airworthiness Inspection. Two (KR 1 1/2 and KR2) are flying and one (KR2S) is on the gear. We also have one flying out of an airport near Wilmington. Feel free to contact me off line at ankerst...@embarqmail.com. KR> demo flight?
I'm still thinking of building a KR2S. Anyone live within 300 miles of Spooner, WI 54801 that would be willing to give me a "factory demo"? Preferably one Corvair powered, as that is the only engine option I'd consider for a KR. It is a toss-up between the three, KR2S, Sonex, Zenith CH750. Currently building an Affordaplane to pass the time 'til I get my sport pilot license. Chris

KR> Re: Oshkosh
I just got back from Osh as well. I spent almost 2 full days and walked at least 9 miles between the two days and participated in 3 of the workshops on the Thursday that it rained much of the day on and off. Two days is not enough time imo to see it all other than just a quick look at most of it and walking like you have somewhere to go in a hurry. I was really in awe of the scope, size and variety of aircraft and quality of the experimentals too. I just ordered my plans to build a Wittman Buttercup, so in 2011 I hope to fly it into Oshkosh. I am going to make it my goal to fly into Sun N' Fun in April 2011, but I know it is a lofty goal at that. It was impressive to see the turnout in spite of a weak economy. I am certain that the EAA was quite pleased by the comments that were made. There is some amazing stuff going on. I was surprised in the two days I was there I didn't see any of the KR2 fleet at all. I may have been persuaded to build one, but in the end I did want a tube fuselage and old style high wing. I won't be going as fast, but stol is a nice feature. I hope to see some of you guys at future fly-ins. Be safe. -Original Message- From: krnet-boun...@mylist.net [mailto:krnet-boun...@mylist.net] On Behalf Of smwood Sent: Sunday, August 02, 2009 11:40 PM To: kr...@mylist.net Subject: KR> Re: Oshkosh Just got back from OSH. Camped out on the grass. Hot showers were nice, but never used the new fangled flush toilets in my shower house. The porta-potty habit is still in place; no big deal. What was a big deal was to meet Willie all the way from South Africa. Willie said he sure wished he had one of those new fangled mixture meters in his Cessna 150. That would have saved him an engine rebuild because of his running aggressive leaning and not really knowing what the mixture was. I suppose you could get 337 approval for your certificated Cessna if you also had an auto fuel STC. Don't need any such approval for your experimental. There were 20 people in the audience at the Mixture Meter forum on Thursday morning. I am not sure if they were there to hear what I had to say or just getting out of the pouring rain. No fan mail pouring in yet, but Mark Forss did ask me to do it again next year. I volunteered at the Composites Workshop for five sessions. At 34 persons per session, that's 170 people that may have learned a little something about wet lay-ups, decided to build a composite aircraft or not, put up a fiberglass canopy frame for an RV-something, or even maybe build a KR. You can never accurately predict where that little bit of knowledge and inspiration will lead. I also got to build an emergency replacement fairing for a retract landing gear. The pilot was concerned that the gear may jam in the up position without a viable fairing in place. His alternative would have been to fly home with the gear extended at gear extension speed and resultant fuel burn. No 337 there either. I got to talk shop for about two hours with the avionics engineer on a gee-whiz all glass LSA. He had not a clue on human factors engineering. I listened to Mike Melville, the featured speaker at the Home Builders dinner on Thursday, as he recounted his adventures as a test pilot for Burt Rutan. The Airbus A380 was impressive outside, underneath and inside. You only got to go underneath the A380 if you stood in the long line to go inside. That was a real aluminum overcast. The A380 on display was a flight test bird and had 25 tons of instrumentation onboard. Yeah! Bring it on! To say I had a great time and lots of satisfaction attending AirVenture 09 would be quite an understatement. My assessment on AirVenture: Just like life, to get something out of it, you have to put something into it.
