KR> Was CHT , Now Mixture Meter

2009-08-31 Thread Mark Jones
Willie,
The gauge is a Cyberdyne which is bought from JEGS. Part number 280-7009.
$37 each, here is the link:
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/KeywordSearchCmd?storeId=10001=10002=-1=0=280-7009=all=1=280-7009==0=2%2B3%2B250%2B1147708=mode%2Bmatchpartial=mode%2Bmatchpartial=280-7009

You will need a Bosch 11027 oxygen sensor and they run $18 each. Here is the
link:
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/KeywordSearchCmd?storeId=10001=10002=-1=4294963322=1147708=KeywordSearch=11027=all=1=11027=mode%2Bmatchpartial=mode%2Bmatchpartial

If those links do not work, use www.jegs.com and do a part number search.

JEGS will ship international. If you have problems, let me know.

Hi Mark
I went to the Sid's presentation at Oshkosh and would like to fit one in
each of my KR2's but can not get the stuff here in South Africa. Can you, or
somebody willing, make up all the pieces and sell it to me? Including the
indicator.

I am replacing mine tonight. They have a life of about 100 hours with leaded
fuel.

Sid is absolutely right in that a mixture meter is the way to find your
Stoichiometric or ideal fuel/air mixture. However, I have heard that they
won't last very long when used with leaded fuels. Of course that may not be
a problem for much longer, but for now it still is. I'll direct the
question to Sid or others using the meter Do the mixture meters have a
longevity issue when used with leaded fuels such as 100LL? Thanks in
advance for your answer.

Ever heard of a mixture meter? Show up at the Gathering on September 18 &
19 at MVN and I am sure there will be several flying examples. IF you want
to hear it, I will be glad to tell you all about mixture meters.

A very good idea but be extremely careful when you do this. Be sure that
your regulator is working and that it is set to no more than 1 pound to
start with. If you don't have a regulator get one before you test.

Ear bending will have to wait for another opportunity as Scott has
other commitments and will be unable to attend the Gathering.

Gathering attendees,

I just spoke with Scott Wick of Wick's Aircraft and he has committed
to deliver orders to the Gathering on Saturday, the 19th. The cutoff
for orders delivered to the Gathering will be Thursday, Sept 17th, at
5:00PM. He will also be bringing catalogs for anyone that needs or
wants one. Good chance for you to save shipping cost and especially
the cost of shipping any "haz-mat" items.

Hi Mike,
I'm responding to your post RE Wing construction. I built my
wings per plans, but if I had to do it over, I would pressure test the
wing fuel tanks prior to closing the underside of the wing. I had
some leaks that I had to patch the hard way... by cutting open the
wing and filling, then patching. Lots of sanding to do that.

If you put an extra layer inside the wing, it will add weight. If you
have the wing tanks, you get the extra weight anyway. I think if I
had it to do over again, I would look into the wingskins. They look
beautiful, and save hours and hours of sanding (if you can afford
them). If not, building the wings was a lot of "fun" excluding all
the dust I made in the process.

Mike,
I used the Dan Diehl wing skins and built in 10-gallon fuel tanks in the
outer wing using Diehl plans. Pressure testing looks to be not practical
until after the top skin is floxed in place. I painted the inside of the
tank with extra vinyl ester resin to make sure there were no leaks on the
bottom and sides. Yes, I had big-time leaks at the outer rib joining the
top skin. I had to cut a hole outboard of the rib to get at the gap. Used
a vacuum cleaner to suck VE flox into the gap for a seal. Also had to
tighten the swange nuts on the vent pipes, both sides, and the fuel filler
cap on the top skin, both sides. Pressure testing used a water column for
pressure less than 0.25 psi MAXIMUM. Water column will go up and down with
the air temperature and barometer. It takes about a week or two to get
consistent readings.
