KR> USA Visit ideas

2010-01-11 Thread Phillip Matheson
AS you may know I will be at Oshkosh 2010, on the ANZAC 747 landing at
Wittman Field on the 26th July at approx. 1300.

I have some time a week or two if needed and would like some ideas of KR or
aviation things to do or places to visit.

I am just applying for my USA pilot licence, so I can fly around if I can
sort something out. Any places you would recommend to hire a 152, 172,
Jabiru, Sportstar etc?

I know the US has heaps of museums, but what do think are the best places to
visit? Or web pages to find info?

I know that is most likely a silly question, but I have to give the ANZAC
tour operators a date for my return flight, so I need to do some planning.
ASAP.

I'm really looking forward to placing some faces with the names I see on the
net every day.

I do not understand your comment on removing all the WAF bolts?

You only need to remove 4 bolts( normal removal of a KR wing ( Or 8 it you
use the RR single bolt per hole idea)

In Aust CASA did not like that idea, we use a single WAF through bolt with a
thick wall 4130 spacer between the WAF's and locked up tight.

Contact if you like.

Thanks a million! It was a very interesting/educatioinal web site. I have
not seen this before but I have designed the very same folding wing hinge,
but cylindrical and in aluminum, sliding in/out thru the center of the spar.
However both designs require constant removal and replacement of the many
wing attach bolts, a chore that I dread. There has got to be an easier and
fail safe way to do this..

Does anyone know the dates of the most recent plans for the KR2S. There
is a set on Barnstormers and I'm wondering if his 1999 plans are as
current as the ones from RR or am I better off going direct to the

I will try to find the name of a plywood supplier in Dallas. They are off of
Irving blvd. I live in the area and had bought from them a while back. They
carried all grades and sizes of high quality plywoods a few years ago.

Hello KRnetters,
I have spent the day scanning through and searching the archives, but have not
found the answer.
Can 1/4" 5ply A-B Grade Fir Marine plywood be used for the firewall?
I have recently purchased plans and spruce sticks to build a KR1 and hope to
find a local supplier, Dallas/Fort Worth, of plywood. I  hoped that if there
were a supplier in this huge urban sprawl I might get full sheets, not have so
many scarf joints and save shipping costs. No joy so far all I have found is
the fir.

Thanks, Edward

The marine grade fir, 5 ply 1/4" is actually lighter and stronger than the
birch. It is not always as readily available as the birches or baltic birch.
You can also replace your spruce "sticks" with fir tho you will find it on
AVERAGE to be 25% heavier ...but also 25% stronger.
Does anyone out there have sketches or ideas for folding wing hardware?
It is what I want for my next project.a simple fold upwards as on WW2
carrier aircraft.
