KR> Discussion about landing lights

2010-05-27 Thread Neal Hornung
With the recent discussion about landing/taxi light installations, I thought
I'd add my two cents worth. Tonight I just completed the installation of my
taxi light in the leading edge of the left outboard wing of my KR2. The
landing light is already installed in the opposite location in the right wing.
These are 100 watt halogen lights from J.C.Whitney that I bought for $34.99 per
set, actually years ago, and never used for anything else. I used to have a
set on my motorcycle and I can testify that they'll light up a road sign a mile
down the road. Yes, they weigh more than some of the small driving lights that
you can get at Autozone or Advance Auto parts but they're a lot brighter and
more visible too.

I'm adding a picture section on my web site at: www.zoomshare.com. You'll also
find the link to it under my name on the krnet under the projects under
construction if anyone is interested in seeing how it went into the wing. The
cover which took the shape of the leading edge is lexan, not plexiglas. And
before anyone says that it will scratch easier, I know, but they're easy to
make also, and they are cold formed, therefore they don't have to be heated in
an oven over a mold. The cost for a one foot wide by two foot long piece is
only about $5.50 at U.S. Plastics Corp. in the city where I live. They have a
web address also if anyone is interested in ordering from them.

I hope this might help some of you who may be contemplating installing
taxi/landing lights on your own planes.

KR> KR Forum at OSH

2010-05-27 Thread Mark Langford
KRNetHeads,

The Forum schedule for OSHkosh just came out, and the KR Builders and Pilots
Forum will be at the usual time and place, 1:00-2:15 on Monday the July 26th at
the GAMA Pavilion number 2 in the Forum Area. No immediate plans yet...just
stand up there and rant about KRs and answer questions 'til the time runs out,
unless somebody comes up with a better idea (and I can be convinced of that).
After we get thrown out at 2:15 we usually stand outside the pavilion and have
a meet 'n' greet sort of thing, and this year I'm hoping Phil Matheson and some
of the other Aussie builders/pilots will show up in time to make the forum.
It'd be nice to have a night time get-together either the night before or the
night after the forum.

On another subject entirely. I posted another cloud picture at the top of
http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/sunsets/ a few minutes ago. It ain't bad for
a bunch of moisture floating around in formation...

KR> Electric Trim Install

2010-05-27 Thread Dave Dunwoodie
I've managed to do it - a retrofit - but I just have to ask!!!

Are all of you guys just little guys? Or do you hire midgets, or use
mini-robots, or bribe your kids, or what???

My access panel is just about large enough for my head. No arms in
there, just the head! So, with extensive use of a mirror and a video
camera, I managed to get the manual trim system out of there and then
fit the new RAC system.

Would I do it again? Well, yeah, I guess!!! But not for free!!!

KR> RE: Fuel Tank Vent

2010-05-27 Thread Joe Beyer
Here is a link to some pictures of my KR. The fuel tank pictures are there.

I built mine like a pitot tube on the opposite wing. Vent tube faces air
flow about 6" below wing. Al tubing is flared and a screen is epoxied over
opening. It's never flown but my hope is the flare in the tube will add some
pressure to the tank to inprove fuel flow.
