KR> Electric Artificial Horizon

2011-04-24 Thread laser...@juno.com
If you are going to steal it, the Falcon will probably be cheaper than
what this fellow on eBay is expecting to get for his TruTrak ADI below,
but an AI is something you want to be able to implicitly trust. I
wouldn't want something that occasionally "does something funny."

I see the auction below has no bids so it will probably go for around
what he started the bidding off with - $600. With the GPS model (as this
one is - it comes with a GPS puck that plugs into the back of the
instrument) Gulf Coast Avionics wants $1200+ for a new one. This one on
eBay looks like new. TruTrak will do for free any service work that
might ever be necessary (even if you're not the original owner) but since
these things are all solid state it isn't likely to ever need anything.
Mine never has. Great instrument. The GPS track readout replaces a DG
for all practical purposes and reduces scan.

KR> New Pictures

2011-04-24 Thread Neal
Just posted some additional pictures taken this week of my fuselage and the
right wing with Stewart Paint Systems Primer/Filler added. The bottom is not
coated yet but I'm going to use only white primer/filler on it since it
shouldn't need UV blocker. At least I hope the bottom doesn't see that much
direct sun time! It is does then the wrong side is up. For those who haven't
used Stewart Paint Systems, they are water based systems that don't require a
forced air breathing system. In fact, the first two coats of primer/filler are
brushed on as per their recommendation. Once the gray is done then I'll go to
white and coat the whole plane. In the pictures the cowling top is just set
on, it's not attached and neither is the canopy bubble and frame. It's easier
to work on the individual pieces while they're off the plane. If you're
interested see them at: http://www.sharkdriver.zoomshare.com. It is also
available as a link from the KRnet under my name thanks to ML.

I haven't spent any money yet. The seller said to install it and see
if it works. I don't think their RV had an 8 degree panel. Could
that cause it to not work properly? I'm sure it sees more than 8
degrees pitch change in use. If it works I'm sure I'll get a
deal. The seller is my part time boss. :-)

Larry,

The 8 degree means that the user had a panel that was 8 degrees off of
vertical. Buying used instruments is always iffy, especially if the
seller tells you that it acts funny. I would decide how much you want
to invest, subtract what it would cost to service it (usually about
$450-$550 for and electric AI) and see if you are still getting a good
deal. If you have already purchased the instrument, then you can see
if it serves your needs or pull it out and have a good instrument shop
service it.

Actually, I have found that tornado weather is quite good to test out
a new AI as the plane will be cycled through many unusual attitudes.

Good luck, Scott

KR> elect. artificial horizon

2011-04-24 Thread Larry&Sallie Flesner

I might finally be getting my electric artificial horizon for the
KR. It came out of an RV7A that was upgraded to a Dynon
unit. Question for those that know. The instrument is marked with a
tag indicating an 8 degree slant. Will this work on a flat panel? I
have it installed and it spins up but weather too bad for a flight to
check it out. Tornados in the area and all that.

The RV owner said he thought it acted funny on occasion and it is a
"Falcon" instrument so it may be a bargain best left undone.

KR> Nose Gear Needed for Tricycle Set-up

2011-04-24 Thread Chris corbine
All,

I'm looking to purchase a nose gear. I'd like to get one inexpensive. Or does
anyone know of a very good substitute, that is different than the one sold by
NV
Aero? I would be interested in that as well. Just purchased N5834 and noticed
an issue with the nose gear. Can the components of the nose gear be purchased
separate? If so, where?

Thanks,
Chris Corbine

Welcome to the KR community. Get started building without
delay. With the proper instruction, anyone of average ability can
fly a KR. Keep us posted on your progress.

2011-04-24 Thread omotosho olalekan
Hi everybody,

My name is Steve from Malaysia and will like to say hello to everybody. Please
I
have been following KR2S for quite sometime and finally make up my mind to
start
building, but I have the following questions to ask. Am intending to put in for
my Sport Pilot license while am building along my KR2S, now I will like to know
can a low time SP fly this wonderful machine? though here in Malaysia there is
no speed limit but am concerned about safety issue. Would i be able to fly this
machine after building without seeing one before or even fly one before.

You sincere answer is highly appreciated as my motivator to move ahead in
building and will be glad to be the first builder of this plane here in
Malaysia.

With best regards.
