KR> Question re Bolt sizes for undercarriage axle to leg ...

2011-09-13 Thread Martin Pearce

I have what I believe to be Deihl legs on my KR2 and two months ago had a
landing mishap which appears to have been caused by the two lower bolts of
the four ¼ bolts that attach the axle stub to the undercarriage leg having
their nuts stripped off and the top two bending severely. (This was the
result of a small bounce two up in a light left cross wind and a subsequent
touch down a little right wing low and with a bit of drift on I think.) We
didn’t ground loop, but by fierce use of the brakes I managed to keep it
straight but at an angle to the runway which we subsequently departed and
tipped over in the very soft grass, still within the runway boundaries.
couldn’t steer with the RH wheel at a funny angle

They were AN bolts with nyloc nuts .. The bolt threads have the nut
threads still in them!

Question. Is ¼ the usual bolt size for these axle fittings?

Oh, and yes, we did make the news . Unfortunately.

KR> Wick's at KR Gathering

2011-09-13 Thread joe.kr2s.buil...@juno.com
Hey Guys,This got thought about a little to late but I spoke with Scott Wick
today about them coming to the KR Gathering this weekend and to be able to
bring along any orders folks may have. He was going to call me back when He
found someone to drive in for us and as of 4:30 pm Eastern I have not heard
back. Maybe if you have an order you were going to place with Wick's anyway you
could place the order and in special instructions mark to be delivered to the
KR Gathering in care of Mount Veron Il. This Saturday. If he gets more than my
order it may help get them to attend. Thanks,Joe Horton,Coopersburg, PA.

KR> Gathering meals

2011-09-13 Thread Larry&Sallie Flesner

To all attending the Gathering,

The airport restaurant will be serving breakfast for us on Friday and
Saturday morning as well as the other daily meals. I encourage you
to eat as many meals as possible at the airport to help them offset
the really good deal they are giving us on the banquet meal. They
are opening for breakfast just for the Gathering crowd as they are
not normally open for breakfast.

Thanks.

I'm taking the rest of the week off work and I will be making the
trip to Mt.Vernon tomorrow to start setting up. I hope I haven't
forgotten anything.

How many more hours, Jones?

Larry

KR> wood

2011-09-13 Thread GaryH
Dave,
When you laminated the spars, did they stack vertically || or horizontally =
? I wonder if it makes a difference. Same for center vs outboard spars?

Thanks,
Gary

I used clear edge grain Douglas-fir 3/4" thick, boards from a local lumber
yard in building my KR2. Have to be sure it meets specs in grain run-nout,
no knots, etc.

For the longerons I planed it to 5/8" thickness (left the height at 3/4",
dampened the longerons and bent gradually over several days in
assembling/shaping the fuselog: no cracks/splits.

Laminated the spars ;do not want to cut spars from thicker pieces due to
possible hidden pitch pockets.

About 15% heavier and stronger than sitka spruce, a little over build/safety
facter.
