KR> For Sale - KR 1.5

2011-09-18 Thread Tim & Gail McKenna
I am the original owner/builder. Ideally, I would like to sell it only for
display/show purposes with or without the engine. If not for display, then
being sold for parts. It is NOT being sold for flying. I will consider all
offers on parts or as whole.

Experimental 1982 KR 1.5 which is a little longer in the wingspan and a
little wider in the body width and length. It is in between the KR 1 and 2
dimensions. The aircraft has been kept indoors the entire time and is in
fine shape.

53hp Volkswagen engine with 400 hrs. Engine has been overhauled. 19'
wingspan; all instruments; sliding canopy and

KR retract system on wheels.

Plane is located in Bergen County (Northern) NJ.

KR> Gathering

2011-09-18 Thread Lee Van Dyke
Another great gathering, and again thank you Larry F for all that you do. I
hope that everybody gets home ok. Bob G and I pulled out his KR and he
committed to flying that KR to next years gathering.

KR> Gathering

2011-09-18 Thread Mark Langford
Yep, another great Gathering. Joe, Mark Jones, Brad Stone, and I all left
the Gathering yesterday to beat a weather system that will likely continue
to dump rain on MVN through today and some of tonight.. It turns out I
could have waited until early this morning and still made it fine, but that
wasn't the recommendation of the weather briefer I talked to yesterday
afternoon. Sorry we missed the banquet.

I noticed yesterday there are some folks in attendance who didn't do much
mingling or talking, just stayed on the periphery at a distance. At the
same time, the pilots and some of the "in" crowd spent a lot of time
standing around joking and carrying on with each other, and I'm as guilty as
anybody. On the flight back, it occurred to me that next year we should try
to be better about mixing it up with folks who we don't recognize, and even
some we recognize but don't know their names, what they're building, or what
we can do to help them get their KRs in the air. That's one of the main
reasons we hold the Gathering, right?

I talked to Joe last night and he mentioned that we really should do more to
promote the Gathering, such as publish it in Sport Aviation and other
magazines and internet sites and lists, as well as local airport flyers,
etc, with sufficient advance notice to let builders and pilots plan on
attending. Mark Jones remarked at breakfast yesterday that next year was
the fortieth anniversary of the KR, and we should strive for 40 KRs to fly
in. There are a lot of KR builders and pilots out there somewhere... we
need to find them and talk them into showing up next year.

I was not surprised to hear that MVN was voted to host the Gathering again
next year, and you have to admit it's difficult to imagine a place that's
better set up to host it. Thanks again to Larry Flesner for doing a lot of
the legwork, and Chris Collins providing the airport facilities and
continuous support as well.

Weather trouble trying to get home. Josh, Channel and I made it as far as
Columbia, MO today before weather stopped us. We hopefully should be home to
Elsworth and Kansas City Monday afternoon. Not all is lost however, the
hotel we are at in Columbia actually has a hot tub for Josh and Channel
unlike the Super 8 they stayed at in Mount Vernon.

the Gathering.  Maybe next year.

2011-09-18 Thread Mark Jones
Just want to say thanks for yet another super Gathering and special thanks to
Larry and Chris for all of their hard work. Sorry I had to leave early on
Saturday but it was good judgment as it has been raining here most all day. My
flight to and from the Gathering was done with no problems and luckily I had a
tail wind both ways. Time in flight each way was almost 3.5 hours each. I used
flight following through northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin where I was
passing through some air spaces. Sure is nice having someone telling you where
all the traffic is ahead of you. Since I was not at the banquet could someone
please give us a list of the award winners. I did read where Langford stated we
will be returning to Mt Vernon again next year. I sure was glad to hear that.
Only 362 days left till our 40th anniversary of KR flight. Let's get at least
40 planes there for the celebration.

KR> Home from gathering

2011-09-18 Thread kr2coo...@comcast.net

Dan and I landed at Greene County Airport last night at 10:00. GCY is about 5
miles from my airpark but we do not have runway lights at the airpark. We
refueled in Bowling Green KY. It was getting dark by the time we took off and
we checked the position lights but had a little problem in that my instrument
lights were not working but I had a small LED light that clips on a hat bill
and we used it to illuminate the instrument. At 7500 we were VFR but on
instruments because of the very dark moonless nights. We flew over a cloud
layer for about 12 hours, really only about 20 minutes but we were sure glad to
see the lights as we got nearer to East Tennessee. We also landed without a
landing light at GCY, not one of my best landings but the airplane was still
flyable. It was a good gathering but I was flying so much that I didn't get
much interaction with the people and the KRs. I did enjoy flying with everyone
and look forward to next year. Dan will probably never fly with me again after
our night fright, ah night flight. Hope everyone made it home safely.
