KR> KR2"T"

2011-11-06 Thread Rich Angel
Hi all...
 I spotted a couple pix of a Tandem KR2 recently.  Dubbed the KR2T, I'm
wondering if this is a one-off?  The builder mod plans from a KR1?  Anyone with
info on that?  Link to pix:  http://krbuilder.org/KR2T/index.html
 Thanks,

Rich

KR> KR2's in South Africa

2011-11-06 Thread Willie van der Walt
Hi Bob
You must visit me in Phalaborwa at the Kruger National Park. There are two
KR2 aircraft in my hanger. Free accommodation, a boat Safari, a flight over
the private Game Park and lots of fun when you visit. www.riversafaris.co.za
Maybe we can fly over, in the Thorp T18, to visit Rudi, to see the best
looking KR2 in the country at the moment.
Regards
Willie

KR> Plans...

2011-11-06 Thread Rich Angel
I am considering a KR build project.  I would like to do the full-up build
working from plans without NVaero's "kit".  Can anyone speak to how what
literature comes with a plans set and how complete/descriptive that literature
is for a first time builder?
 Thanks,
Rich

KR> transponder install

Hi Larry. If you want to send me scans of (or links to) all the
paperwork you intend to use, I can look at it and tell you whatever I
can regarding what I would do in such an install. The last Garmin 530
install I did on a Commander 114B had the encoder connected to it, and
it was pretty straightforward (not to be confused with EASY, my least
favorite word). Be Well Mi Amigo

KR> Corvair installed weight vs VW installed weight.

2011-11-06 Thread Dan Heath
Today I weighed both cowlings. Given the total weight with VW being 720 and
the total weight with the Corvair being 750 and adding in the 9 pounds
difference in cowl weight, the installed weight of the Corvair is 39 pounds
greater than the VW 2276 as installed on my KR2.

Much less than I expected.

Also, taxied today and everything seems to be a go, except that I have a
real problem at the 1000 RPM spot. That is where I like to taxi, and the
engine quits everytime I get it in that spot and leave it there for a
second. I have a 2700 with an Ellison EFS-3A. Also, it will idle much
lower than I thought it should be able to, around 650 and even lower for a
short while. I am going to try to fiddle with the idle mixture adjustment
tomorrow to see if I can cure this problem.

Also, for you EFS-3A guys, is your throttle sticky at the low end? It could
be my installation, that is why I ask.

Also, is 2850 static good enough? That seems a little low to me. I have a
Sensenich 54 54.

KR> transponder install

2011-11-06 Thread Larry Flesner

I've been carrying a King KT 76A in my panel for 430 hours and 7
years and have finally decided to wire it to an encoder (AK-350) and
power it up. I think I have all the info I need but I would like to
verify the "male" pin out layout on the AK-350. Several hours of
surfing on the net has provided me with what I hope is the correct
pin to pin wiring between the units and the pin identification on the
transponder. I think I have the pin layout on the encoder but would
like to verify. Also, can anyone suggest a good source for the 15
pin plug that connects to the encoder. Thanks.

Met with my welder for what I hope is the last trial fit on my new
exhaust. It would have gone much quicker, like one day, if I had
hauled the KR to his shop. Hope to be flying in a week or so.

KR> Flight Information manual

2011-11-06 Thread Dan Heath
Does anyone know where I can find the requirements for a FIM? Mine is very
thick and I am sure that it has superfluous and redundant information in it.
I want to get it down to a size that is more convenient to carry in a small
pouch in the KR. Or, maybe you have a FIM that meets these requirements
that you are willing to share. I will post it on my site, along with all
the other documents.

These are at: http://krbuilder.org/WeightAndBalance/WB_Documents.html

Mini Actuator for rudder adjustment is here:

http://www.e-motionllc.com/FIRGELLI_MINIATURE_12V_ACTUATORS_s/59.htm

Try these, they came from an email from Mark Jones that I have saved.

I used the 6" from NvAero, before it was NvAero, for my speed brake and it
works perfectly.
I think I chose the 6" because I wanted more throw than I would get from the
4" as I think that measurement defines the throw.

Flaps probably have a shorter throw and the 4" may work well for that, and I
am sure that Steve could advise you correctly.

I am converting my Kr-2 from the old style manual flap with the handle to an
electronic actuator. I looked at nvaero, they have a 4" and 6" model. How
do you decide which one? And are there any better lower cost options?

Thanks,
