Great idea Steve about the grounding buses. I could use some training in wire
connections. I heard that's one of the ?problems in experimental aircraft is
inferior wire connection and wire type.

Not to my knowledge. But, don't let that stop you from starting a KR
project or from finishing up your existing project.

First off, the KR is not a difficult airplane to fly. Second, you
may find someone to give you a short ride in their KR to let you
experience the handling qualities. Lastly, there are many aircraft
you could get a ride in , like an RV, to help sensitize you to
similar handling qualities. Bottom line is there are ways to prepare
yourself for the KR without getting a checkout in a real KR. Don't
let that be a roadblock. Many have gone before you and worked it out.

Hello Ray and Netter's,

We were wondering how to address this. I wasn't sure anyone would be

Our goal for this year's Gathering is to have as much "Hands on" experience
as possible. I believe we have some great stuff planned and should be a
great time. In addition to the listed Fly-In Schedule on the KRGathering.com
web page, we do have scales here if anyone is in need, or wants to do a

If each person in the group would like to build their own grounding buss I
can have the needed materials on hand and ready. We are still planning our
fiberglass workshop but if anyone is in need of a specific part or has an
idea of what they would like to make we can take a look and see if it
feasible. Even if it is making some small practice parts this should be
worthwhile. The same goes for the antennae workshop. If anyone is at that
point where they want to learn how, or needs one of their own we can do the
logistics on parts and supplies. This is a prime opportunity to get help on
some of the unknowns for builders and be able to take something home with
you.

With the rudder pedal retrofit forum we could convert to a workshop and have
the parts ready to go for assembly and maybe some light fabrication as well.

We haven't received much response in the way of volunteers for judging KR's
or forum presentation. We certainly could use the help. Please let me know
if you are willing to assist in any area from registration, setting out
food, forums, or judging. Thanks!

I like the idea of doing the continental breakfast and lunch on Friday and
Saturday. I am willing to set this and the workshops up if we have enough
interest. Anyone willing to participate in these items for a reasonable fee
please let me know by the end of the weekend please. I will calculate what
I think it will take material and food wise and throw a number out there. If
it seems there is enough interest I will create a separate workshop
registration page which will also have a breakfast/ lunch option with a
paypal option so I can pick up supplies and have it ready to go.

What say Ye???

Hey Steve,
I did finally register and I am looking forward to coming out to Chino. My
only other trip in that area was a 5 hour layover in L.A. So, this will be
all new.
Just saw the agenda as to what you have proposed for the Gathering. I have
several comments.
1. Thank you for making most of the seminars "hands on". I find those so
much more informative and useful than a lecture. Please let me know what
the cost of the materials will be for the seminars. I don't expect you guys
to actually have to buy materials for me to have and I intend to attend all
of them. So to be clear, this means I will be leaving with an actual
grounding buss that is designed specifically for the KR2S and that I can
just bolt into my project?
2. As for the fiberglassing seminar, I still consider myself a newbie but I
have been doing some glassing on a 66' Corvair coupe. And I have been
surprised at how easy it is and how well it has worked out. Of course, it's
for a car so I didn't care about weight. So I look forward to learning how
to fiberglass properly on my KR2S. And I know all of my supplies have not
been cheap but that's probably because I wasted a lot.
hopefully you'll show me how to stop doing that.
3. The tour Saturday morning should be a blast. Very much look forward to
that. Will there be enough seats to accommodate people who fly in via
Southwest? Can you see if the local FBO might make you a deal on a rental
and you just charge anybody interested (I am) what the seat costs? if not,
are there two other guys coming who might want to split a rental with me?
4. I even really want to make my own antenna. And I can take it home with
me and use it? Too cool.

No offense to Larry, but this might be the best Gathering I've attended.
And I'm sending this to the KRnet because of the following.

May I make a suggestion? I've been to four separate Corvair colleges and I
have had a great time at all of them. They were all hands on all the time.
Even when all I did was help someone else I still had fun - getting
experience and knowledge. One of the things they did was have a fee up
front for whatever the costs were - primarily food. All the other stuff WW
just sold flat out. And I sure you will be selling whatever items you carry
to whoever wants them. At least it'll save the shipping cost.
And in looking at what you are proposing, I know there is a cost for the
materials you will need to buy that you will be giving out. I don't have a
problem paying for that but I didn't see the fee anywhere. However, I do
ask that you consider setting up the breakfast and lunches as part of the
cost just like at the Corvair colleges. That way no one doesn't have to
really stop what they're doing. No one will have to leave the hangar, the
airport (

Ray, That's a good idea. I been around there many times in an eighteen

I read on FlyCorvair.net there is an aviation surplus store north of LA.
somewhere. They were talking about how you can get electrical stuff real cheap.
I would love to just walk around a place like that. Does anyone know of that
place?

Per the question as to arrivals, I will be coming in Wednesday noonish. I
just wanted a day to drive around and see the town. I figured that when
the Gathering actually begins, I'll just be there all day and some of the
evening.
Will also have a car if anyone needs a ride.

"The Compufire electronic ignition on my 2180 VW from Great Plains uses
0.6

panel
ammeter. The more sparks it makes, the more juice it takes."

I may be mis-remembering, but Steve Bennett once told me it was just the
opposite. Idling/low RPM drew more juice from the battery than when
turning at higher RPM's.

I like what you are proposing. However, we must realize that planning and
arranging for an event like this takes a lot of time and effort, such that
making changes this late in the game is not feasible.

The Corvair College is a great model. I have never seen anything quite like
it. The one they do at Barnwell, SC is very well done and worth every
penny. While I am not still building a Corvair ( actually never did because
I now a much better builder than I could ever be ), I still go to see what
is going on, learn a little about the engine, and see all my friends. Sort
of why I go to the KR Gatherings even though I have already completed two
KRs.

What you said about learning really rang a bell with me. When I got back
into KR building with the Black Bird, I went to the Gathering in Pine Bluff.
Mark L. announced that he was going to do a glassing demonstration. Well,,
I already had built one KR, "how much could I possible learn"? Well, I
learned more that I could have thought possible and carried what I learned
all the way through the completion of the Black Bird. Today, RV builders at
our airport ask me for advise when they need to do some glass work and I
spread what Mark taught me.

See you in Chino.
