Jeff pretty much summed it up. I'll add a bit between the
lines. There was considerable reluctance for anyone to volunteer to
head a "steering committee" so Mark Langford conceded to take on the
task. He asked that I be on the committee and as I recall, John
Bouyea and possibly Dan Prichard. I don't recall exactly and didn't
take notes so may be wrong. Mark is on vacation with family all this
week so I'm hoping we don't hear from him but hope he is enjoying
time with family.

Mark volunteered to take input from netters at his e-mail address (
ml at n56ml.com ) concerning offers to host next years Gathering, vote
on location, and offer ideas on whether the group should form a legal
entity with officers or not. Please DO NOT CLUTTER THE KRNET WITH
THESE POST. Until or unless Mark changes the process, address all
post to Mark's e-mail address ( ml at n56ml.com ) with subject: 2016
Gathering. Mark can easily separate these post and keep them in a
file and easily forward them to the steering committee
members. Follow this process if you want your input to be
considered. The committee will screen any invitations to host the
Gathering and ask netters to cast their vote when a list is put
together. Mark is already a very busy person so let's not make the
task more difficult.

I'm sure you'll get a post on the net when the steering committee is
formalized and ready to accept input.

Thanks to all

Thanks guys! Do either of you know who manufactures the composite fiberglass?
Or the specific name for the composite? Thanks again.

KR> KR performance numbers

2015-09-07 Thread Ed Janssen
Larry,

When I had my KR-1 (around 400# e.w.), I came pretty close to the takeoff
and landing performance as advertised (1700 cc VW), but certainly not
anywhere close to 180 mph cruise (125-135 cruise).

Ed Janssen

Along the same lines, I sure wish someone would fess
up and give the "REAL" performance numbers in advertising the KR
aircraft. Takeoff in 350 feet, land in 650 feet, 180 mph cruise,
really? Really.??? I've been to 25 of the last 26 KR
Gatherings and have yet to witness such awesome performance.

If I didn't have things waiting on me back home I would have rather
stayed in Oregon. It's the worst time of year in SoCal, as those who
attended last year's Gathering will know.

So cool and beautiful up there. So dry and hot down here. It's "Santa
Ana" time in this part of the world and doesn't look like we're getting a
break until a week from now when it's predicted to drop into the mid
80's.

I want to move to Oregon.

2015-09-07 Thread hart701 at charter.net

Re: "We have acquired, we were told, a complete KR2S built by Kenneth
Rand(no engine"

Have you verified who built this plane? If it was actually built by
Ken Rand it should be in a museum (indoors) as it would be a piece of
aviation history. Does it have a data plate on it or did you receive
any documentation with it. I can't recall a KR2S being completed by
Ken, (That would not be the only thing I haven't recalled), but I am
sure someone on this list will know.

KR> Not pilots, but have a structural question for a KR2S

2015-09-07 Thread Tony King
If you came up with a structure that had the aircraft still sitting on its
landing gear (or with brackets of some sort attached to the axles) you'd
have to expect it wouldn't do any damage to the aircraft. An arrangement
that somehow attached to the upper landing gear mount points probably would
work OK as well, but would be much harder to implement without at least
minor (repairable) damage.

You could potentially hang it from the wing attach fittings and tailwheel
as well. There's a gap between the outer wing panel and the centre section
(which may have a gap seal over it) where a cable could be attached. The
front WAFs are probably pretty close to the centre of gravity though, so a
sandbag somewhere down the back might be a good idea in that case.

Also keep in mind that the composite construction doesn't age well if it's
situated outdoors.

Cheers,

Tony

Thanks to Dan John and Pete for all the work for the gathering. Learned a
many new things and had great time. Kim and I arrived back in Grand Junction
around 5:30 mountain time yesterday, with just a little interesting
turbulence in northern Utah and Colorado. Again thanks to all at the
Gathering.
