KR> What the heck was that?
I fly out of Dallas just under Bravo airspace a lot and in the summers I go for elevator rides in the plane...these are not only thermals and are unpredictable but so is latent wake turbulence from the heavies that passed above your airspace and may affect you as that turbulent air descends and moves away from the large jet's path...just remember to keep your trays in the full upright position and your belt securely fastened. Thanks for posting this Mark. Two weeks ago I flew commercial to Detroit. When we took off from Midway we were climbing out into perfectly smooth air and without any warning whatsoever we hit a bump that felt like I had driven over a speed bump at seventy. But it was only one single bump. Nothing before and nothing after. I have never experienced this and it was some time before I really settled down. Just glad to know that this is not unusual. KR> TURBO KR2
Ahhh, ...I see where all those numbers came from, now, the Kitplanes article. Steve had refined things much more before he sold it. It had much more capability than Steve was using at that time, Empty weight? Yes, it gained an extra 85 pounds with the new nose gear and cowling. Mike
KR> TURBO KR2
I'm not sure where that came from. Takeoff ground roll was shorter than with the piston engine. Pattern speeds are not changed by the engine type. Maybe you thought the climb rate of over 2000 fpm was the takeoff ground roll. High fuel consumption, ...yes. Coolness factor, ...off the scales. Mike
KR> [CorvAircraft] Judson Supercharger?
Wow! Blast from the past. It's a vane type air pump. Maybe 4-5 psi boost. From the late 50's to mid 60's. Designed and marketed for small 4 cylinder European cars in the 1.5L to 2.5L engines. I never saw one for Corvairs. Here is some neat history.. http://ofdc.forumactif.org/t86-the-judson-supercharger-history-and-technics A piece of my "good old days" -- Wayne DeLisle Sr. > [CorvAircraft] Judson Supercharger? > > Patrick Hoyt pwhoyt at yahoo.com > Thu Nov 5 08:37:19 EST 2015 > What the heck is a Judson Supercharger? > > Saw one pop up on Craigslist: > http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/pts/5292784772.html > Anybody ever worked with anything like that on a flight Corvair...? > Patrick HoytN63PZ - FlyingNX### - Building >
