KR> Carb

2016-12-15 Thread Jim Dexter
I put a new Aeroinjector on my Sonerai last summer. VW 1835. Simple
operation, and had no problems with it so far.

I've never heard of a KR in need of aft ballast. That would be a truly rare KR.

To the group,

My KR2 is standard length so a heavier engine brings the CG forward. If I
move the 200# engine back 1" to 10 ?" firewall clearance that should have
the CG more like the VW engine.

What should be the minimum firewall clearance to the engine? Has anyone done
this to save having to add ballast?

The stock Diehl gear fittings are 45 degrees down at the top fitting
and 45 degrees up at the bottom fitting to place the axle parallel to
the spar. Depending on the flexibility of the gear leg and the
expected gross weight, you may want to add a couple degrees of camber
to the bottom fitting (top of wheel out, bottom of wheel in) to
bring the wheel to vertical under load. You can use a small wedge or
just a washer under the fitting on the top attach bolts.

Then there is the endless discussion of "toe in - toe out". I'm
convinced "zero toe in - toe out" is best for good ground handling
and least tire wear. Others will argue different but with 600+ hours
of experience I couldn't be happier with the ground handling of my KR.

I also prefer a rather tight cable for tailwheel steering. My ground
handling in three point attitude is as comfortable and responsive as
any tri-gear I've flown.

KR> Carb

2016-12-15 Thread jibby212 at aol.com

I am running one on my Hummel ultracruiser with a 2180 VW. Have 100 hours on
it with no problems. Im not in love with the mixture control setup, must be
reset for any throttle change. Its very simple, almost to simple but I think I
will probably put one on my KR when its time for the carb. I have a header
tank with gravity feed to carb which I here gravity feed is the best for these.

Can anyone say what this angle is on the landing gear when not
loaded by aircraft weight?
