Just curious about the length of time between landing and Full back on the

Re: KRnet> Composition of a KR 2 with Subaru EA 81

2022-04-29 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
I say go for it, slap that Subaru in there… I’m sure that your mechanical
prowess has made you much more knowledgeable than the other 2 thousand aircraft
builders who have tried to convert this baby over. I say this jokingly because
I to thought the same thing until I realized that there’s no way of all the
people before me, that I was the smartest. Sometimes it’s just better to learn
from other peoples mistakes. That being said I had 2 margaritas at dinner. 😳

Hello Randy,

I want to come back to this, I know someone who has also installed such a type
of engine, not in a KR 2.

But it goes perfectly, he did with a reduction case and he changed the engine
management.

He will be willing to help me too.

Do you maybe have any drawings of the engine mount? I want to make the engine
mount the same way as Les Palmer.

Thanks in advance

Kind regards,

Until he popped up with my name I wasn't gonna say anything. I would not waste
my time with that Subaru. Les had a total of about an 4 1/2 hours on his KR I
had about 60 hours on it. He had troubles with a reddrive it could never
produce the horsepower it says it's supposed to produce. the radiator takes up
a lot of space so there's a lot of drag through the cowing. it's heavy once you
add everything up including the water. I sold it to a guy down south of Waco I
believe somewhere around Georgetown and I know he had a problem an the engine
quit and he put it in a pasture I don't know what happened to it after that.
Les was a Tinker and he was really good at it. But he could never get that
thing to perform like it was supposed to. I would fly it for an hour or two and
he'd work on it for a week or two. I flew it to one or two flyings. and I
believe he trailered it to two of them.

The first KR I owned had a removable forward deck that included the fuel
tank. Lifting that unit away from the fuselage exposed the entire forward
side of the instrument panel. That made rewiring the panel greatly easier. I
struggle to accomplish the same task on my current airplane. I wish the
turtle deck would have been removable. Highly suggest this option for future
builders!

I copied Mark's great idea to make all the upper parts removable. I can have
all the parts off in 25 minutes and ready for inspection or upgrades. Going
back together takes about 45 minutes.

Paint the wing gap covers
Paint the inner wing baggage doors
Make the cowl
Of course start the engine
Paperwork and CofA
Keep building it won’t build itself

KR> tail feathers My two cents.

2021-02-06 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
Hey guys, I can't elaborate on anything shorter than a KR2SS since that's all
I've flown. I lengthened my 2S by 14" and because I was building ( in my mind
) for less drag and more speed I decided to use the original plans size 2S tail
feathers. So I have the AS5048 new wing design up front and the original flat
tail in the rear. I have flown my girl to all over the country and I have no
complaints. That being said, this is not a Piper or Cessna. You have to fly the
plane and I'm fine with that. I once flew with a guy that filled out his log
book while on autopilot. You are not going to do this in a KR. I just don't see
what all the fuss is about, I've flown with Mark with his short KR2 for
thousands of miles and he always manages to get it back down safely In
closing, if you want to be able to do 150 mph on 5 gallons an hour and don't
mind having to fly the plane, the KR is a great plane If you want the
comfort of a plane that flies itself and is virtually idiot proof on landing,
the KR should not be your first choice.

Great day at the airport. Sunny, cool, calm wind. I made a 50 mile
flight for breakfast and then came back and tinkered on the Challenger.
Mid afternoon I went for another local flight and landed at a grass
strip. I thought I'd better get some flight time before winter set in.
Engine running well after a mag timing adjustment.

Anyway, while stumbling about the internet I came across
"https://flightaware.com/live/airport/KMWA"; and selected my home
airport. It had both my flights logged, I guess with ADS-B. I was
tracked every 20 seconds (approx) with speed, direction, altitude, climb
or decent, and I forgot what else. It had my complete flight track for
both flights. Interesting but scary. BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING !!!

KR> Fuel mixture

2020-10-25 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
My two cents worth.. My O-200 with the M/S carb does exactly what Jeff and
Larry have been discussing. After a lot of thought and several conversations
with Jeff I decided to adjust the pilot instead of spending more money and time
chasing a non problem. Once I get to a comfortable altitude I just pull the
RPM's down around 2500 and she's purring like kitten. The noise level also
drops to a more comfortable level and she still has enough power to continue
the climb to 12,000. I guess what I'm saying is "Perfect is the enemy
of good". Get her done and go flying.

you're as close as the rest of us for meeting at a central location. Let's try

There's only one cure. Get your plane finished! You're in New Orleans area.
You've got another KR nearly ready to fly over around Mobile Bay. There are
others in the area as well. Get with it!

Obviously I'll be there with Jim Faughn's KR. No retracts, and some
nice touches like the "opera windows", but it's defintely per the plans
in most respects, and still pretty decent looking with his 1990 paint
job on it. YepI can probably make it in there again.

I'm starting to enjoy my ADSB Mark and I flew to Arkansas to see Jeff S. a
few weeks ago and I was able to see Mark on the screen as soon as he took off
from his home airport. It's really pretty neat to be able to see where someone
is at other than guessing. Also on the way back home I was picking up weather
in front of me and with a quick look in that direction I could see the rain
shafts coming down. I'm really starting to like this electronic stuff Heck,
I'm even considering an autopilot.

I think its time that I share this with you. I have been keeping this news to
myself because I had not made a decision as to how to move forward but now that
I made my decision, I think I will share my situation. On May 7, 2020, I was
rushed to surgery to have a Coronary Arterial Bypass Graf also known as CABG
X5. I had three arteries at 100% blocked and two at 80%. Its been a month since
that operation. I was released three weeks ago from the hospital here in Dallas.
A week after being released I thought about my KR2 project and what to do.
After reading your post about flying here and there for meets and gatherings I
said I want to be a part of that... and I can't do it if I got rid of my
project or worst, abandon it. So I decided to move forward with my project and
its been at least two weeks now that I have been using it as a source of
inspiration to get better and to soldier on. I posted some updates on our
Facebook page a few days ago and I will continue to make small advances as my
recovery permits.
I may not be able to fly into our meet in September since my physical
activities are currently limited, but God willing I will be there in person
again. I have a great friend that finished building an RV7 and is now helping
me with my project. Thank God for great friends.
I wanted to reach out to this great group of fellow builders and to thank you
for the inspiration and motivation to keep moving forward in spite of the
trials and tribulations that life throws at us. I want you to know that my goal
is fly this airplane out to these gatherings here and there which is why we
built our little time machines. Blue skies always...

Yes, yesterday was another great day. I'm about 45 minutes south of Mark so as
I got near his airport I could see him come up on the ADS-B. A green dot with
his tail number and the altitude differential + or -. Pretty cool stuff. I
have to agree with Mark on the KR performance and low cost to operate. Best
Bang for your buck airplane out there. I had a tailwind coming home so it was
only an hour and 10 minute flight. Keep building guy's, It's worth it.

And this morning, Mike Sylvester and I are flying up to M54 near
Nashville to meet Robert Pesak for lunch. On Memorial Day Mike and I
flew to Jeff's house in Arkansas for brats (no beer though, sadly). KRs
are great little time machines, and it's hard to imagine that there are
many other planes that go this fast on so little fueldefinitely at
the front of the pack of the most economical airplanes to operate,
especially at these speeds.

Hi guys. I have been very tempted to drive my VW Vanagon to Mt

tilling up the garden for planting sweet corn, and doing some brick
laying on my garage today. In addition, tomorrow is my church's first
day of being inside, since March. I do have good news, as my Family
Physician has signed off on my 3rd class medical reform paperwork a
few weeks ago. This is after having holes in my abdomen, for 3 years,
due to infected mesh the VA hospital put in me in 2013, to fix a
hernia. After three years of the VA putting me off,, the Cleveland
clinic repaired the leaky stomach, so i could eat again, and later
repaired the hernia. I was on liquid TPN for 16 months, and could not
eat or drink during this time. I never tried to renew my 3rd class
medical. I am reasonably sure I can pass the 3rd class, but decided to
go with the 3rd class Medical Reform. N455JS, has taken a back seat to

KR> Cutting the ailerons

2020-04-06 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
A quick tip on cutting the ailerons. I cut mine 90 degrees to the leading edge
thinking that this would match the airflow over the wing, This added several
days to the build and a lot of headache trying to keep a tight gap. While
working the aileron up and down it worked the gap in and out. Total pain in the
but trying to make it perfect. If I had my do overs, I'd cut the 90 degrees

Re: KR> Anti flutter

2020-04-03 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
As for me, Any time I'm not in casual cruise, My feet are on the pedals
applying a bit of pressure to the cables...… On an interesting side note..
Following Mark Langford to Oshkosh last year at 10 thousand feet he waited
until we were on top of Freeport IL. airport before he decided to push the nose
over to get down. I tried to stay behind him in a steep dive but I was worried
about over speeding my bird and at 200 mph I gave up and pulled the nose up a
bit. I immediately lost visual of Mark and turn into a spiraling 360 to keep
from over speeding. By the time I completed the 360 Mark was long gone. To make
a long story short, Mark has shown me that the KR will take more than I am
willing to give.

Quick question.
I have a balanced elevator. And will balance ailerons. Just wondering if the
rudder really needs balancing. Trying to save weight. So far this build is 64

Re: KR> Revmaster Props (carry-over from the FB page)

2020-02-25 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
There are just so many variables when selecting a prop such as gross plane and
pilot weight, engine horsepower, amount of drag hanging out in the airstream
and density altitude that you just have to go with what you feel will work the
best. At least now you have a starting point to work from. I would just caution
on going with the longer prop that length seems to kill RPM. Have you looked on
the KRNET.org performance spread sheet for VW's ?

Subject: KR> Revmaster Props (carry-over from the FB page)

I have a Tri Gear KR that I bought from John Bouyea, which I am considering
re-propping.

The plane currently has a small-valve Revmaster 2100D & 52x52 Sterba prop.
Climb performance is not-so-great, and airspeed is ~115mph. Static RPM is
high - although I haven't used a digital tach on it just-quite-yet to get a
number for how-high.

Although I've asked this on the KR FB page & not gotten much in the way of
solid answers (lots of discussion & people reminding me that I am
under-propped with the 52, little else), I am wondering why ~52in props are
so common with VWs...

A 60" prop turning 3200RPM = 75% Mach. 80% at 3400.
There appears to be enough ground-clearance for a 60" prop on this aircraft.

Am I using the wrong RPM numbers? Do people typically cruise higher than
3200 with this engine?

Has anyone else used a 'big' prop, and if so what are your thoughts?

KR> HAPI VW

2020-01-18 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
Hey Guys, At the last Gathering I met a KR owner that lives about 30 miles from
me. He bought what was supposed to be a flying KR but was unable to get it
running once he got it home. He has taken the HAPI off the plane and in the
hopes of getting another KR in the air, I've offered my assistance to rebuild
the engine. I know that throwing the HAPI in the trash would be a good start
but he's wanting to just get it flying before he sinks a lot of money into it.
He's bringing it over tomorrow so I'll keep you informed on what I find. In the
meantime, If anyone has a CHEAP Revmaster, Great Planes or Arovee laying around

2020-01-12 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
Several of the KR pilots here in the Southeast were gonna meet for lunch today
but our destination airport had low ceilings along with most of our home
airports. With the mini gathering cancelled I was able to take the KR up
through the broken clouds high enough for the transponder to receive the signal
from Birmingham. The uAvionics echo UAT that I installed last week wasn't
picking up the transponder so after calling tech support I was ready to try
again. Much to my amazement, it all worked... I am so used to stuff not working
that it doesn't feel right when things do what there supposed to do. Finally
ADS-B working and ready for the Gathering in Lee's Summit, Mo.

KR> Subaru 2 cents

2019-12-29 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
Good morning guys, Every so often we get into the discussion of whether or not
the Subaru is a good alternative to the airplane engine. As far back as I can
remember I've had a wrench in my hand and I still consider myself a fair
mechanic. We all would like to think that we could work out the issues flying
behind a Subaru offers but several years ago I realized that the chances that I
could find the "magical fix" that several thousand other pilots before me
hadn't been able to do was just not worth the fight. I decided to go with the
Cont. O-200 and after trips from Talladega Al. to Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois
and all over the southeast I have no regrets. My advice, spend a few extra
bucks on a proven engine. You'll save $$$ in the long run.
Just my opinion, your ideas may vary and that's OK.

If all of the things that I've done wrong in the cockpit were to come to light,
you would definitely be wondering about my intelligence... I have a radio story
that happened on my first night cross country that still embarrasses me to this
day. We were flying to Huntsville, Al. which is a towered airport and the
instructor wasn't much on small details, he often forgot that I was a student
pilot. Approaching Huntsville I made contact with the controller and all was
well until he said, (Say Altitude). As I sat there thinking why did he say, Say
altitude instead of state altitude of even better he could have said, How high
are ya ? About that time the instructor screamed SAY ALTITUDE ( well it seemed
like he was screaming.) Needless to say, I pushed the button and said,
Altitude. Talk about embarrassed. That's one of those mistakes that you'll
never make twice.

I have talked to several KR pilots and it seems that I'm not the only one with
ACK ELT issues. When I turn on the transponder it turns on the ELT, this is not
good. So last weekend I pulled the pilot side wing off and moved the
transponder antenna out to the first bay of the leading edge. Today I took her
up and turned everything on, It looks like the problem is solved. I won't be
comfortable until I can put some more time on it the way it is...… I had to get
this fixed before I could move on to ADSB out.

Replacement cylinders on , test flight, all is good again, no vibration,
so I asked a couple of friends of mine to go out and play. See:

The engine is running so good that I had to throttle back a bit for
formation work but it worked out ok. Life is good.

Re: KR> engine work

2019-10-25 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
I'll agree with Jeff as I bought a mid time o-200 for the KR that was only
supposed to have oil leaks. About an hour into test flights, the oil pressure
bottomed out. Pulled it off, took it home and disassembled it. The main
bearings were as bad as I have ever seen. Now I'm flying confidently behind a
fresh O-200. It's the old saying, How much is your life worth ?

KR> N236MS fuselage measurements

2019-10-20 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
Just got in, I have been at the airport all day moving my Transponder antenna
to the outer wing. Trying to get it as far away from my ELT as possible. While
I was there I grabbed a few measurements...…..The firewall is widened 2 inches,
my cabin area is 40" at the panel, mid cockpit is 41" and the seat backs are
39", These are all inside measurements. Spar to firewall plywood is 24 3/4",
Could not get a true measurement to the rear, but all I did was add 1 bay to
the rear.

Re: KR> Interesting engine for sale

2019-10-18 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
I wasn't going to comment but since you ask The man behind this engine is
Jan Eggenfellner from the failed Eggenfellner Subaru . If you google this you
will see that Jan has left several RV builders broke and with no engine to
mount on their airplane. Jan promised more horsepower than the engine could
produce at more weight than he claimed. Cooling issues was also a factor for
this engine. Please research this and come to your own conclusion about his
character...… As far as his Viking engine, I've been hearing about a lot of
overheating issues. There have been several for sale lately so that kind of
tells me that there's issues.

Anybody know anything about these engines, or whether they’d be a good fit for
a KR?

I looked up the Viking Engines website and on one hand, the performance seem
decent, but on the other I’d be on edge running a little Honda engine at
4000-5000 RPM for the duration of an entire flight. That just doesn’t seem like
a task that the little Honda Fit engine was once designed for.

I am also having a hard time picturing their 90 HP engine only weighing 159 lbs
(listed on their website). After adding a radiator & coolant, fuel injection
system, computer, and reduction gearbox, that figure seems awfully light for
such a high powered motor. The 130 HP model seems a little reasonable, at 220
lbs, about the same as a Corvair. Could this be the weight of just the engine
without the above attachments?

Just take a digital level and see how many degrees your wheel is leaning. Now
that you have done this get a 2"x2"x 1' stick of aluminum and cut it with an
electric miter saw. A chisel blade for cutting wood will do just fine. If your
miter saw has dual adjustments, you can adjust toe in at the same time with the
same shim. Drill 4 holes and mount.

24 years ago I was in Austin, Tx building my KR2S. I drove to Arkansas

gathering and met Jeff Scott, which resulted in my move to Los Alamos.
Anyway looong time ago, I don't recall exactly how I mounted my main
gear legs
and brackets. But now I notice that the tires are wearing badly on the
outboard sides
I always thought the weight of the KR would make the axles parallel to
the ground, but
nope, they're angled about 10-15 degrees - causing the wear. (?)

what? do I have to shim the bottom of the leg under the bracket?

Bye the way, I think I've got the thrust thing worked out, today, I did
a high speed test,
got it up to 55 mph and stopped it before last taxi way, less than half
the runway more like 3/8.
I think the issue was a plug wire not making good contact in the dist cap.

Made it home yesterday at 1:45. Not long after Mark dropped down through a gap
in the clouds to descend to his airport I ran into a solid cloud layer. Went
down through the last hole I could find and got down to 3500 feet to fly under
a solid cloud layer the last 60 miles. I really enjoyed seeing all the people
that have become my friends over the years, Larry, Gwen, Joe, Mark, Robert,
Roger and Rob. Also made a new friend from Australia, Phil Matheson. Nothing
like sitting around with a cold one in your hand listening to good friends talk
about flying. Next year, I think I'll stay longer.

2019-06-24 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
Pete, This is great news, Congrats. The only advice I have is what everyone
told me and it kept me from pounding mine into the ground. Until you get
comfortable you'll probably land a bit hot and on touchdown she will more than
likely bounce. If this happens, do not move the stick, with the power off and
the drag out it will settle back down. If you chase the bounce and try to force
it down, You'll come down hard on the nose gear. Good luck, we're pulling for
you.

been taking dual instruction to knock the rust off my flying skills, but
unfortunately it's in a 172. There is nothing close a a KR anywhere near the

KR> Cross country in the KR.

2019-06-03 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
I'll start this off by stating that we have great friends that have moved to
Fernandina Beach Fl. (FHB). From my airport (ASN) it's 293 nautical miles. We
drove it once and only once. The wife and I decided that she was just gonna
have to give the KR a try. Moving ahead, We have now made 3 trips down and back
and she absolutely loves the speed of flying. We can make the trip in around 2
to 2 1/2 hours depending on the winds. Memorial Day Monday we left FHB at 8:30
for the flight home. Put the wife in the plane, packed one carry bag in the
luggage area and let her hold the other in her lap until we reach altitude. We
taxied to runway 27, went over check list and engine run up and away we went.
The O-200 builds speed quickly and even with full fuel, the wife's 110 lbs.
plus luggage it lifted off smoothly and started the 100 mph climb to 3000 ft.
Once over the swamp I turned for home and climbed at 120 mph to 10,500 ft.
After moving some fuel from the wing tanks to the header tank, We moved the
bag that she was holding to the luggage area. With a full load and nose high
climb attitude the more weight you can keep forward the more stable she feels.
Beautiful blue sky with a few scattered white puffy clouds just below us and
the sweet sound of the Continental singing her song Man, It just doesn't
get any better than this.

KR> KR2S nose heavy

2019-05-05 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
When I was building my KR2SS knowing that I was going to hang the larger engine
on the front (O-200), I put another 1/2 degree down on the leading edge of the
horizontal stabilizer. It was not enough. With no trim, You have to hold back
on the stick. It's bad enough that if you were to release back pressure, It
would dive hard for the ground. This seems to be an issue with some KR's here
on the net. With trim adjusted, she flies like a dream. Looking back, I wish
that I could have designed a horizontal stabilizer that you could adjust for
trim while in flight. There are several certified aircraft that have this but
the design is a bit heavy for the tail of a KR. I know that Mark L. and his
N56ML, had a ground adjustable that he designed with no weight penalty. If I
were building today, I'd copy Mark on this too. As for my trim system, I
decided to keep it internal with nothing on the outside of the airplane. I
ended up using a 6 inch linear actuator and a bungy cord hooked to the elevator
bell crank. After several adjustments on the bungy diameter and length, I found
the perfect combination. I can fly hands off at any speed. That being said,
Just keep building, These little pocket rockets are a hoot to fly.

Re: KR> Fuel pump O-200

2019-04-29 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
Vic, I gravity feed fuel from my header tank to the carb on my O-200 powered
KR. My header tank is sitting on the bottom shelf that is behind the firewall.
I can run it totally dry with the M/S carburetor with no problems. That being
said, other than some high speed passes with steep climbs I'm pretty much a
calm and coordinated flyer. One recommendation, Make sure your vent line
doesn't trap fuel. Even gravity doesn't work if the vent becomes blocked. In
the test phase I lost power twice and had to dead stick it in. I was lost for
an answer until I talked to Jeff Scott, he is very knowledgeable man.

KR> awkward question

2019-04-17 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
Mildly KR related but every now and then when I'm discussing the KR with a non
flier, I get the question. How much do you have in it or if you sold it how
much could you get? This type of questioning just hits a nerve with me and I
usually just tell them it was cheaper than their Bass Boat. Is it just me or
does this happen to you ?

Mike,

What rpm were you getting from the 0-200 at WOT? My KR indicates
similar speed at 2750 / 2800 rpm (WOT) with similar prop. I cruise at
about 2500 rpm and indicate 140 / 150 mph depending on temperature and
altitude.

I can give you an opinion from a guy who has been looking for the best of the
best options and what I am seeing with N886MJ.

First, Larry is right. In my opinion this design has been pushed to its limit.
At this point most everything has been tried and the best options are being
used. If you build light and go as big as safely possible on the engine (which
I believe is ~125hp), you can achieve a 1300MGW and 150mph cruise airplane(in a
Tailwheel (TW) configuration). As soon as you try to increase the MGW with
more wing area your gonna slow the airplane because of weight and drag and then
your gonna need that 150hp to go 150. I have actually changed engines on my
build 4 times. First a Corvair, then an O-200, then and O-235 and now I am
back to a Corvair. Luckily I pretty much broke even on all those engines. I
am now headed twords the 120hp Corvair with my TW build. My current 2S is a
trigear and I am close to hitting that brick wall with the 100hp Corvair in it.
My top IAS is 150 at 1200lbs GW. I have a few more mods to complete but I
suspect I wont see much more speed. Maybe 10 more if I am really, really
lucky. I settled on the KR many, many years ago because I wanted a 150mph
cruise. It's looking now like I might just get there with the 120hp and the TW
configuration on my build plane. Here is a video from a test I did a few days
ago after I put the wheel fairings on. Best I saw was 145 IAS @ WOT and about
134 in cruise so I am a bit disappointed as I don't see this airplane getting
to 150 cruise without me and the plane each loosing 100 lbs.

Hey Guys, A friend of mine is building a BD4 and since I have been given the
title of fiberglass expert in the small circle of friends that I have, I have
been called upon for advise and help. Mostly help. The BD4 has glass wings put
together like stacking cups. You just glue another rib/wing shaped bucket on
until you get the desired length. We are in the process of filling and sanding
to get the cosmetics looking slick. It is bringing back memories of long days
and nights spent sanding on the KR. Every now and again I think about building
another but only for a second or two before I snap out of it. It was a lot of
work over 9 years and this BD project is a harsh reminder. So for now, I'll
just stick with N236MS. Hope to see you guys at SNF.

KR> Vibration

2019-03-24 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
Hey Guys, Recently I have picked up a pretty strong vibration right before lift
off and soon after landing. Having looked for it and not finding a problem I
just figured it was tail wheel shimmy on our grooved runway. Yesterday, I
hosted the local EAA Chapter 152 cookout. As things where winding down I took
my friend Larry up in the KR. Larry only weighs 135 lbs. Everything went fine
but I could feel the vibration again on landing. Rolling the KR back into the
hanger and getting ready to close up shop I ask Larry to straighten the rudder
and tailwheel for me. I usually just kick it around straight but trying to be
gentle he knelt down and picked it up by the tailwheel. That's when he called
out that the tailwheel assembly is loose. The Matco has one bolt holding it to
the leaf spring and it had gotten a bit loose letting it move from side to
side. Just as soon as he pointed this out I knew my problem was solved. I guess
where I'm going with this is, If your plane is telling you something, Listen to
it. It was almost embarrassing that he found the problem by accident and I
didn't find it even when looking for it. Looking back I had checked it with
full tail weight on the assembly and wasn't able to see movement.

Re: KR> registration renewal

2019-03-17 Thread Mike Sylvester via KRnet
Joe, I received the reminder about 2 months ago. Went online, paid the five
dollars and got back my receipt in just a few days. Sorry I'm no help.

HEy Guys,
Has anyone gone on line to renew regisration lately. I went on line this
morning to renew for N357CJ and when I got to the bottom the fee was $65
instead of the $5 shown on the renew letter that I got in the mail a couple
weeks ago. I did not see any explanation for the cost anywhere.
Thanks,
Joe Horton

I wouldn't count on it being approved for use in the US in it's current
implementation. It is designed for Europe. As best I understand the European
implementation of ADS-B, there is no 978 MHZ UAT. So that unit likely doesn't
have a UAT receiver, so in the US would be missing half of the GA traffic and
all of the weather data, since that is also broadcast via UAT from ground
stations.

Just watched the video and even got the wife to listen to the building song
from a woman's point of view. She loved it. It fit her to a tee. It was also
good to see old friends. Thanks Video Bob.

KRnetHeads,

Larry Flesner and I had an unexpected pleasure recently, when Video Bob
contacted us about posting those fantastic KR Gathering videos that he
made over the years on YouTube. He is uploading them as he has time,
and will eventually get them all uploaded. The first one was 2004, and
it's at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iz_KG6wknA . 2005 is also
there. Others will follow, but that one's there for sure now. Take a
look, and your building is guaranteed to go into overdrive! For us
oldtimers, it's a great reminder of those Gatherings we've been to.

Subscribe to his channel and you'll get notifications when he uploads
new ones. He plans to keep this particular site focused on KRs. I'll
also add a link to the www.krnet.org<http://www.krnet.org> site.

Bob's doing great these days, which is welcome news!

Thanks Bob!
