KR> Oil Temperature Sensor
I have a 100 deg to 260 deg F instrument panel meter but no oil temperature sensor. VW2180 Can I remove (unscrew) a plug on the bottom of the engine and screw in a oil temperature sensor? Also is one lead of the sensor grounded? Is there another way of getting oil temperature data? I could not find any info on this. Thank You

I bought an "abandoned" KR2 project and my "ready to fly" (minimal VFR) budget is about 10 - 13K (have spent less than 2K so far with 25% completed airframe, corvair with the right numbers, some steam gauges, plans, etc.). It was twitchy but I managed to fly and enjoy it for a while until I felt that I want something with more utility and better stability. That was 20 years ago. In reality, the KR2 is a fairly complex aircraft to build. It takes most builders 2000 hours to finish. It is not inexpensive any more. Fw: Re: KR> O2 Requirements
Concerning altitude and oxygen requirement. 40 years ago my friend with an Aronica Champ and me with my Luscombe Silvaire flew at about 12500 feet over the mountains from Idaho to Utah. I didn't realize it the time why I felt happy and why I wanted to scare my friend by diving my airplane on him. I was also a smoker. Years later at a military altitude chamber school I was told that I was getting hypoxia and should have had O2. In 2001 we flew a Taylorcraft from Utah to Oshkosh and I got air sick over Whyoming. Living at sea level in California and then going to about 9000 feet and also a "little" older and a "little" heavier did it. I should have had O2. I don't remember what altitude we were at but our assignment was to write our name over and over and to put our mask on when we felt hypoxia's. I remember thinking I should put a mask on then thought to myself, I feel fine. Next thing I knew the instructor was holding a mask on my face. You could tell from my hand writing that I was getting very hypoxic but the euphoric feeling was telling me I was OK. 12500 is my service ceiling without oxygen, maybe a little higher for short periods of time. Military pilots are younger and in better physical shape that the average civilian pilot. If they need oxygen, it's a good idea for us as well. Each individual is affected differently by the lack of sufficient oxygen. Take a High Altitude Physiology Course such as offered by the FAA in Oklahoma City or The one at the Aviation Physiology Training Unit at Tyndall AFB in Florida. ( See my web page: http://www.awesometrvl.com/high_altitude_flight_physiology.htm ) In a training course, each person gets to see the effects of oxygen deprivation on themselves. Ability to do simple math and reasoning problems, color blindness, loss of coordination, etc.. It will make you a believer in oxygen systems. KR> progress?
Anybody making progress on a KR lately? After many months of home repair work, I sprayed my wings in the back yard and am getting ready to spray my fuselage in the garage. I appreciate all the good information from all the dedicated people on the KR Net. Without the Net I could not have been knowlegible in experimental KR construction and techniques. I got some good tips on paint and spraying from the KR Net. Thanks .

KR> Question Master Switch
To KRneters This is a question about the second contact in the Master Switch. I am rewiring my panel and I am adding a Starter and Starter Solenoid. Previously the Master Switch had one contact that switched the Master Solenoid to ground. However I see in old drawings that the Master Switch had two contacts, the second one to switch one output of the Alternator going to the Rectifier Regulator. Is this necessary? The only reason that I can see why it was done like this is hand propelling the engine with the Master Switch off could possibly put some damaging voltage into the Rectifier/Regulator. Also if this is necessary then I would switch in that Alternator to Rectifier lead with a relay in order to keep noise minimized to the Alternator/Rectifier area without having the noisy even though shielded lead coming to the panel. KR> Flight question.
KRA KRB WEST COAST FLIGHT PROBLEM If the question was Which KR will be closer to the West Coast when they meet? The answer would be KRA because his tail would be closer to the West Coast. But the question was Which KR will be closer to the West Coast when they pass each other? The answer would be KRB because his nose would be closer to the West Coast the moment they pass each other. The speeds are irrelevant in both cases. Red ya surewrote: Mark, you need a hobby... Lee, I'd like a copy of the pic. KR> Joe Flechtner's Anchorage to Oshkosh Trip
Joe Flechtners KR2 I recently purchased a KR2 that was built by Joe Flechtner in 1981 in Anchorage, Alaska. He flew it up to 2001 and put a minimum hours of 240 hours. Joe passed away in Nevada and there is very little about him and his beautiful aircraft. The Log Book shows that Joe added wing tanks for Oshkosh on 7/15/84 (max capacity 50 gallons, 300 lbs), but it is vague if he flew from Anchorage to Oshkosh which I think would have made great KR2 news. Searching the KR2 Archives I could not find anything about this. Does anyone in the KR2 community know if this trip was completed and if this was an accomplishment especially if this was in one flight? We are going back more than 20 years which is a long time. I am a new member to KR net and my KR2 at this time is a project since it has a rebuilt RevMaster 2000D, with a new Alternator, Starter, and RevFlow Carburetor and modification has to be made to the cowling for the RevFlow and to cut it in half since it is a one piece unit. A new throttle cable, mixture cable and carburetor heat cable needs reinstallation for the new carburetor and a new white paint job to cut down on outside temperature. As soon as my sauna bath garage cools down (96 deg F), I will start work. Sal Leone Lake Forest, California 949 770 9896 salale...@yahoo.com - Do you Yahoo!? Get on board.
