My KR is stretched 24?inches so I may not need as much trim as some..

Larry my KR2-S is stretched another 18.75" farther aft of the rear spar. Yep
you read that right...extended one more bay plus four inches to the leading
edge of the vertical stabilizer spar -bulkhead.I think my KR2s is the longest
in the world. I hear long is a good thing so in this case I can brag mine is
longer than yours. Who needs trim when you have a long one? ?I think I might
have opened a can of worms with this subject (trim and longer fuselage). Thanks

My LED indicator got toasted early on like Mark's, probably from
radio frequency overload.? I was going to replace it but decided not
to bother as I never referenced it anyway.? As I recall, I made my
trim tab the size called for in the plans.? I seldom see it deflected
more than about 1/3 deflection after landing.? My KR is stretched 24
inches so I may not need as much trim as some.? I do get a noticeable
pitch change when I deploy the speed brake full down and trim for
that.? I do not reset trim for takeoff but adjust trim on climb out
or cruise as necessary just as in a Cessna or Piper.? You will find
that you will adjust trim by the feel in the stick, not by the
lights.? On your first flight just take off with neutral trim and
precede from there.? Stick forces in the KR are so light that it's
not an issue.

KR> Aeropoxy

I am wondering how much Aeropoxy I will need for wing construction on my
KR2S. How much should I have on hand while laying up the fiberglass ? I plan
just one layer of glass at a time with peel-ply.Is there is a method to figure
how much to mix for a given area ? From previous experience with the older type
Rand resins ,I always seemed to have extra resin gone to waste. Also is the
one hour hardener enough time to wet out one layer of glass? I'm thinking it's
plenty of time with this lower viscosity type resin.

I would not use any heat!!! Air dry only. You do not want to remove the
natural moisture of the wood, as this will cause fibers to shrink too much.
Air movement is a good thing to help it dry out, properly.

My guess is that all will be fine as long as the water is removed and the
boat is naturally allowed to dry.

Good luck.

It wouldn't hurt to put a small ceramic heater (on low heat) in the fuselage

I need some advice on how to take care of rain water on my fuslage floor.
I
purchased John Godwins KR2S project in South Carolina last Wednesday and
had
to travel back to New York through the hurricane rain storms.
Unfortunataely
i took on some rain water last night driving through Pensylvania. I
immediately soaked up the little bit of standing water close to the spruce
cross members.I think air drying it will be best. I think if i blow dry it
with a heat gun it might warp and delaminate. any suggestions appreciated,
  Joe

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. Wound up with about 5/8" of
water in each bay on the fuselage floor. Prior to that I had painted the
inside of the fuselage with thinned epoxy. So, I was able to mop up the
water with a sponge and rags. The outside plywood had not been painted.
The bare mahogany showed some water stain but no warpage after air drying.
The aircraft grade plywood has waterproof glue. Most epoxy glues are also
waterproof, but the uncoated lumber can soak up the water and cause issues
with uneven expansion and then contraction when it dries out.
Use great care with the heat gun: you might overheat the glue joints and
soften the epoxy. That could do more damage than water soaking.
Recommend
you wipe up the visible water soon as possible. Then air dry with with
lots
of ventilation with a fan or two.

Craig,

I purchased the Henrob torch several years ago. It welds 4130 tube quite
well. Of course you have to practice on some small pieces before you go and
weld on and engine mount or push pull rods. I use 1/8" 4130 rod. It works very
well on auto body panels too. The small concentrated plume  burns with just 4
psi set for oxygen .  Check out Aircraft Spruce. they sell it there.   Joe Cruz

Tig is nice but the equipment to do it is expensive so I would have to pay to
all my parts made.  With gas I have all the equipment and as I build I can make

If the builder changed the entire hinge setup on the elevator and
rudder, I'd check very close to see what other mods were made and
judge how they might effect safety. Not saying the piano hinges
aren't safe, just haven't seen it done before on a KR. I'd have to
see them up close and personal to judge their safety.

He indicated they were built to plans and I've never heard or seen a
KR with piano hinges in the tail surfaces. I have nearly 400 hours
now on my "standard" KR tail surfaces with aluminum hinges. They are
nowhere near worn enough that I'm thinking of major surgery to
rebuild them. I agree with several other posts and suggest that if
the tail is finished I'd finish the airplane and go fly. If you are
still flying the airplane after hundreds of hours of flight time and
they need attention, do a rebuild then. At that point you'll know
more what you want anyway.

Anyone looking to "bush" the original hinges use caution. There is
not much excess metal in the hinges to be enlarging the holes for bushings.

Hello all,

I have been lurking on the web and krnet for sometime now and I have recently

The wings are raf-48, built and installed per plans. The horizontal stab and
rudder installed and built
per plans. I have been contemplating on rebuilding the horz. stab and rudder
using Mark L.
airfoils and Dr. Dean hinges. The elevator has 3 non-bearing hinges same as
rudder. I would
think that the elevator would not be "airworthy" knowing what we know now about
the kr hinges.
In order to redo the spars would I be able to laminate thicker spruce onto the
oe spars or would
I have to completely remove the old spars and start over? or install oil
impregnated bushings
into the existing 3 hinges and fly sooner?

Thanks in advance,

I have a KR1 project with a VW installed for sale. It is not complete but I
do have all the logs if you know of anyone interested. It was donated to my
High School Aircraft Technology program by the daughter of one the original
builders. We need the operating money way more than we need the plane. I
had hoped to finish the project but now feel that is impractical. The
project seems to be about 80% complete.

Subject: KR> KR2 parts for sale

I posted a for sale notice in early March, some of which is still available.

Canopy frame
Wing attach fittings
Forward deck
Turtle deck

Those
parts are pristine.

There are other
available parts which are less pristine, but maybe somebody can use them.
They include a fuselage which is well past the boat
stage. Tail feathers are installed. The
main spar is installed, and shaped to accept the newer airfoil. The stick,
pedals, horns and cables are also installed.

Pretty
much all other airframe parts are on hand to complete this aircraft,
including
retractable gear, fuel tank halves, the canopy and frame. The canopy frame
needs to be repaired. The smoked canopy has a small edge crack, but
that's fixable too.

Wing spars are fabbed and sealed with epoxy resin.

Of course none of this is brand spanking new, and little of it fits the KR2S
which most are building, so the value
is not what it once was. I'm not even sure that the tank is the currently
available version.

Make me an offer. Interested
persons contact me direct. If nobody calls in on this stuff, it's going to
the dump.

BTW, there's a HAPI engine available too. It's a low time engine, but due
to the number
of years it's been sitting around, I don't want to fly it. I was thinking
of using it in a
hovercraft. But hey, if someone wants it...
