Can they be made using a light weight, more readily available,
steel? Seems to me the forces / stress on these bell cranks is
extremely small. In my limited exposure I don't ever recall seeing a
"cast aluminum" bell crank but I have seen steel.

They would be cast from 356 then machined. Steel would probably be fine too.
Either way we would need to have them cast or laser cut. They both would need
an additional process for either machining or welding.

KR> 2015 Gathering pics, older pics web etc

2015-09-10 Thread Chris Prata
I just went to the krgathering.com web page and the 2015 pics are not up (it
just happened so...). So I wanted to look at past ones and clicked on the
oldest two years. The pics are broken links. I vaguely recall asking about
that months ago, offering my time to fix the links, and I very vaguely recall
they were then fixed.

But now they dont work. Were they fixed, and either way what is the issue?
This is a simple, static page with some text and pics, so it shouldnt really be
that hard to have it work. Am I missing something here?

Those of us gearing to to (attempt) a building of one of these can benefit from
these resources being available for information and motivation.

I looked on nvaero for KR1 plans months ago and they werent listed so I emailed
Steve. He promptly replied he would get the item on there soon. Yesterday I
checked, still not there so I emailed him again and his quick reply was that he
would get them on there. I thanked him and asked about lead times. Today, still
no plans (he may be checking on availability, but a quick email about that
would be nice). Not looking for amazon-like customer service in our niche
hobby and the web sites and nvaero are God-sends to us, but stuff has to work
for it to be useful.

The archive newsletters and Mark's stuff is always there and I value that
immensely, so a shout out to him.

2015-09-10 Thread Steve G.
I haven't gone back to update the photos since it was decided to use a
different site for the gathering this year. I will get it updated as soon as
possible. Keep in mind I do work a regular job so I'm not in the office for
orders or anything else. For the most part my office work is limited to
weekends.

I have not found our nose gear pivots since Remodeling the hanger for Ellison
fluid systems. I had to order a new batch which hopefully will be here soon.

FYI, I went to order a new set of gear legs and about fell over. The blank for
a set of scotch ply for gear legs is now $800 cost. That is before any
machining or cutting down. My last order earlier in the year was $550.

Since material for aileron bell cranks is getting more difficult to find I am
considering having them cast is a single piece like many of certified aircraft
have. How many out there would actually be interested in a one piece system?
Like most other KR related components that we have made, I do not want to break
a bunch of stuff and then get stuck with it.
