KR> AS5048 Spar Separation
Oh, and one more thing is that during the bending process, the verticals end up "twisted" a little, so that gap tightens up, and you'll probably have to shave a little off of the vertical member that mates up to the front main spar, and also the vertical that faces the aft face of the aft spar. That sounds confusing, but you'll know what I mean when you get there. And I'm betting that when you get there you won't notice a .063" difference in anything... These were drawn up years ago, but if I remember correctly, the top view of the fuselage would show a curve in the side wall, which burns up that .063". I believe the number shown on the templates is from an actual measurement of my plane, which is of course, dead on the money.or at least "close enough for KR work"... KR> AS5048 Spar Separation
In the drawing for the AS5048 root airfoil, it shows a distance of 21.56" between the main and aft center spars. Looking at my plans, there is a 10.75" bay behind the main spar, followed by another 10.25" bay before the forward vertical member of the aft spar. Now that's 21" for the bays and the vertical piece is 5/8" square (0.625") so the minimum distance between the two should be 21.625", not 21.56" right. Upon further inspection there should be a 1/32" gap between the main spar and the vertical member behind it. Adding that to the total gives me 21.65625". I know its splitting hairs, but it will change how much material comes off the aft spar. Has anyone else noticed this, or did I just measure wrong?

Hi Allen I down loaded this early today Here's the one from http://www.ae.uiuc.edu/m-selig/ads/coord_database.html#A .01454 .02625 .00721 .01805 .00240 .01003 .00014 .00239 .00041 -.00424 .00441 -.00990 .01248 -.01556 .02377 -.02150 Data just got corrupted along the line. .01454 .02625 0 .00721 .01805 0 .00240 .01003 0 .00014 .00239 0 .00041 .00424 0 .00441 .00990 0 .01248 -.01556 0 .02377 -.02150 0 Gary - Original Message - From: "Allen Wiesner" To: "KRnet" Sent: Saturday, November 01, 2008 1:27 AM Subject: Re: KR> AS5048 airfoil >From: GARY ROBISON >Subject: KR> AS5048 airfoil >I have the coordinates for the AS5048 from the kr net but I get a squiggle >in them on the lower one at the leading edge >If some one has another set would you send them to me or post them ?? >I am trying to get a print out of an intermediate foil at the waf's with my >bent spars I bought the software and the AS5045 >coordinates seem right but the 5048 is not (I took the "0" s off) I had also plotted out the AS5048 coordinates (Dec. 06) and came up with the same problem. AIR, I had passed the corrected info back to ML but I can't find the MSG now. In any case, looking at the numbers in my plot, I think that the error (s) is/are in lines 42 through 44 and they should read as follows: X Y My Comments Line 41 .00240.01003 O.K. Line 42 .00041.00424 Was Line 43 Line 43 .00014.00239 Was Line 42 Line 44 .00441 -.00990 Needs the "minus" sign Line 45 .01248 -.01556 O.K. To make the curve come out right on my old version of TurboCad I also had to add a Line 43A with X and Y both as .0. Hope this helps, and maybe ML can correct me if I've got it wrong. Allen G. That sure makes it look right?? That took the "squiggle" out. I hate to use this to cut my spars and it be off but I don't think the error is in that area. I was wondering if the coordinates are published on Stanford's website? I will look tomorrow. It's 2 AM here and I have fooled with this on and off all evening. I think a couple of antacids and bed will help. By the way ML got me into this fine mess!! He's fly'in all around the country and I'm crunch'in numbers and smear'in high-lighter on my plans. Some day he'll look off his wing and I'll be sitting there !! I show him !! TNX Allen Gary P.S. I have the coordinates for the AS5048 from the kr net but I get a squiggle in them on the lower one at the leading edge If some one has another set would you send them to me or post them ?? I am trying to get a print out of an intermediate foil at the waf's with my bent spars I bought the software and the AS5045 coordinates seem right but the 5048 is not (I took the "0" s off) TNX Gary djgaryl...@verizon.net
