KR> Foamed Tires

2008-10-12 Thread Stephen Teate
My fuselage is inverted and I am trying to finish everything that will
be mounted to it while gravity is on my side! My wheel pants are a few
weeks off, but knowing the importance of a tight fit between the
tire/pant and reading what happens to the pant if you get a flat tire, I
was wondering if anyone has ever gone the foam filled route on their
tires? If so, any problems?

KR> Foamed Tires

Stephen
I"ve used them on my mowers and there are good sides and bad sides.
Good side...You can run them till the rubber is completely worn from the
tread and they will still hold up.
Bad side ...They weigh a ton !! You will not believe how heavy they are.
They are solid, no give whatsoever.

KR> Foamed tires

2008-10-12 Thread JIM VANCE
These tires are designed for lawn and garden equipment only. Most will have a
notice on the sidewall stating that they are not for highway use. Top speed is
about 15 miles per hour--far below the 70 of a hot touchdown.

When I was an engineering manager with Gates Rubber Company, we declined to
manufacture them because of the liability problems. If you enjoy flying--and
living a long time--stay with pneumatic tires.

KR> Foamed Tires

2008-10-12 Thread Stephen Teate
I should have been more specific about my question. I will be using the
5" Azusa tires but my plan was to inflate the tubes with foam instead of
air to minimize maintenance and complexity of the wheel pants. However,
Steve is right the foam will be a lot heavier than the air and I
definitely don't need more weight.

Thanks all,
