Guys, I just got a call back from my first try at getting into a hanger. If I go in with this guy it is in a pretty new hanger at the closest airport to me (only 10 min). His cost is $350/month. My split would be $175. I think that my area in southeast Pa. is a little higher than other areas. Does this sound reasonable? It still is a lot more than I wanted to spend. New T hangars 41x32 at 2W6 St. Mary's County about 50 miles southeast of Washington DC just outside the ADIZ go for $350/month and end units for $380/month. Box units 44x33 go for $600/month. There is about a year waiting for all the above. Trailers may look better every day, but you can get three KR's in the 41x32 T without disturbing the wings. It's easier and CHEAPER to build (or buy) an enclosed trailer and tow the thing to the airport. Sure it is, if you can afford the time to put the wings on and take them off everytime. And if you are willing to allow your plane to suffer all the damage that will result from doing that and towing it back and forth. Hangars at our airport just went up to $170 for a T hangar. This is fully paved with floor and steel rollaway door. I think it is expensive, but we got them for $100 for a long time which was a steal. There is enough room in one for 2 KRs or other such small plane, but right now, we don't have anyone who wants to share because they just got finished building a bunch of new ones. Here in New Orleans they just built some T-hangars (42' by 28') at 1L0 and they rent for $295 per month. You might be able to squeeze 2 KR's in there but it would be tight. I keep my aircraft at Skylark Field which is the new name for the old Killeen Municipal airport in Killeen, Texas. The rent is $150.00 and I have been on the list for a hanger for about 5 months now. When I hear what the rent is in some of the towns around here I think it's cheap here and when and if I ever get a hanger I plan to share it with a friend who has a beautiful little KR2. My bird is a high wing and his is a low wing so I don't think we will have any trouble fiting them in. I came here from California when I retired for the second time and there was a waiting list then and still is. There is a very real need for more hangers here but the city councel chose to spend milions on the Golf course which is right next to the airport and zero on the airport. I have heard that a good many of the city councel members play golf but none of them fly. Do you guys think this fact might have something to do with what the money gets spent on?? No Bob, all politicians are honest, aren't they ?? But seriously, I live in rural Australia and I had to wait 7 months for hangerage at AUD 110 per month. There is talk of it doubling this year as there is 8 people waiting that I know of and the hanger owners are there to make money (they doesn't even have aircraft in there) The council keeps talking about making new hanger sites available but the cost may be to high for me and there has been no action yet, just talk. I'll consider trailering my KR2. I'll design/make different WAFs that fold, are faster to attach and can be done by one person. This is done on gliders all the time. Whats stopping me from doing it now: 1.. Time. 2.. Aceptable hangerage price. 3.. To much fun flying. YeHa 1.2 yesterday afternoon just before last light. 4.. I have the idear 90% planned out in my head, that last 10% is blocking me. My idear is to make folding wing and single pin attachments that fit between the existing WAFs extending the wing gap by 2 to 3 inches. No mod's to existing wings or stubs, just a new, wider gap seal. Anyone want to pursue this with me contact me off line. Joe, That is average here in southeast Wisconsin area for a nice hanger with electricity. I could have gotten one about 8 miles from me for $179 per month but opted for a smaller airport 23 miles away for a hanger at $85 per month with no electricity. I am now on a waiting list at this same airport for a plot of land to build a hanger on. I am planning on building one large enough to house three or four planes and renting spaces out. May even make a small office in there with a cot. That way, if the wife ever puts me in the dog house, I can sleep with my plane. :-) -Original Message- From: krnet-boun...@mylist.net [mailto:krnet-boun...@mylist.net]On Behalf Of Joseph H. It still is a lot more than I wanted to >spend. >Joe Horton + Every area is going to be different to the extremes. I purchased a T hangar 7 years ago for $5000 and used it for approx 3 years and sold it for $5000. I purchased a larger end hanger for $7000 and it would hold the Tripacer, KR, and my 18 foot aircraft hauling trailer. Now the airport is talking about taking out the hangars to build an access road through that area to the local Wal-Mart! Like they can't drive around the airport to get there? My thought on trailering a KR to the airport each flight is that I think I'd rather drive an hour each way (or more) rather than remove and install the wings each time. Without special provisions (like folding wings) it just wouldn't happen for me. I don't even like the thought of pulling my wings this spring to repaint !! Larry Flesner
KR> Hangers
I think that Larry has the best idea. Instead of trailering, it is better to have a longer drive to find an adequate hanger. Especially if you plan to do a lot of flying. I fly a lot because it is sitting there, all fueled up and ready to go most of the time. Today I did work on it a little bit. Installed my left nav light and stobe, defrost for the windshield, replaced EGT probe that had split, ran new strobe and nav wires for both wings, inspected cables and rudder pedal assy from previous ground loop incident, adjusted rudder cables and throw, worked on gear leg fairings and installed repaired and repainted wheel pant. That was a busy day - now to go to work. My point is this, if you have the plane in the trailer you may fly much less than you would if it were accessible. There is a tendancy to leave something alone when it is out of the way and takes some work to prepare. SUN N; FUN is just around the corner - who will be there? Bill Clapp

It would be unusual to find two KRs on a single airport so sharing hangers with another KR may not be an option. Could you also fit a KR in a T hanger with a C-152 or 172. Should not be a problem with fitting the KR wings under the Cessna wings and it would be much easier to find a Cessna owner to share a hanger with. "fit a KR in a T hanger with a C-152 or 172." Hello Net I have a tee hanger and had to wait on a list for 5 years to get it. As for hanger costs, I pay $200 per month and get an electric bill from the local Edison co. for my 40 foot tee here at the Oakland County Airport, Waterford MI. I have had both a 172 and a 152 in the hanger with the KR(not at the same time). In both cases, the KR has to be put in the hanger last after the other craft is in. With the 172, there is a huge chance for hanger rash. The ideal plane to share with is another KR. I have tried to fit in a long eze and a Rands Coyote. The long wings interfere with the KR. I personally don't want anyone else to have to move my aircraft. Parking a KR outside in anything but sunny weather is not good Orma Southfield, MI N110LR Tweety, old enough to drink this year Flying and more flying, to the gathering or bust http://www.kr-2.aviation-mechanics.com/

Garry Morgan has a simple hanger for is KR2SS, I have a photo but as yet can not find it. He built a low wide shed the width of his wings, then added a higher section in the middle to fit the tail in, the front lays on the ground, he pushes his KR in backwards, and puts the front back in place. So it is the shape of his KR. Just like a trailer, but wide enough the fit the wings. VERY cheap, and simple. Which airport? We're going to CXO and possibly DWH Saturday to look for a place to keep (hopefully) a Citabria. We're definately leaning towards CXO right now, so if anyone wants to split a hangar we might be able to work something out. -- Steve N205FT mystic...@swbell.net He who seeks will find, and he who knocks will be let in.
