NetHeads,

Problems posting to the list are often problems "receiving" from the list,
which are usually spam filter problems with your email provider, such as
Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail, or your local ISP. Local ISPs are much less likely to
filter out obscure sources like KRnet, so moving from one of the free email
providers to whoever you get your internet from will probably work better,
and you are almost certainly paying for that service already. Your local
ISP's FAQ should tell you how to get it set up on your computer. If nothing
else, this is a great way to cross-check and determine where your problem
is. I do think Gmail is less likely to have problems, and that's what Glenn
has done as a cross check.

Another excellent cross-check is the KRnet archive and see if your message
was sent to everybody else. There are actually two KRnet archives, but the
one I'm talking about now is not the most convenient or most used one, at
http://mylist.net/private/krnet/ . You probably need your login name and
password to get into it, which you can get by going down near the bottom of
http://mylist.net/listinfo/krnet and filling in your email address in the
line that says "password reminder". It's a little difficult to pick out,
but it's there.

One primary reason for your emails never appearing to the list AT ALL is if
you send email as HTML rather than plain text. The list will summarily
dispose of HTML messages without a word to either the moderator or the
sender, so it's a great mystery until you figure that out.

And Jeff Scott has a theory that the "random" dropping of replies to KRnet
is when you use an "alias" (like a nickname for an entry in your address
book) rather than typing out kr...@mylist.com . Try replacing whatever's in
the TO field with kr...@mylist.net and see if that will work the third time
around. It'll be a good data point for all of us. This one boils down to a
spam filter problem as well, I'm guessing, but is random and hard to nail
down.

Speaking of the archive, the one that is very versatile and most useful is
the one that appears at the bottom of all KRnet messages,
http://www.maddyhome.com/krsrch/index.jsp . Rick Maddy, who's been running
this archive for practically nothing for many years has decided to
discontinue the service due to software obsolescence issues, which will be a
significant loss as far as searching the old emails goes. It goes back
about twice as far as the list archives, and works so much better from a
search engine standpoint. Another guy has volunteered to take over the
running of it, which will require converting all the old messages into a new
format and then setting up the user interface. I told him we'd take up a
collection for him, and that will be sometime this month, I think. Hold off
for now, but later this month I may ask for those donations to make it
semi-worth his effort. If you haven't searched for information at
http://www.maddyhome.com/krsrch/index.jsp , search it while it's still
there, just in case it goes away forever...
