If you are buying from 'Spruce' get ready for sticker shock. Spar stock could be ...wait for it...60$ a foot! I hope you have your spar stock already, 'cause us "CANUCKS" are really in a US /CAN $ crunch right now as well as aircraft grade sitka spruce, etc. shortage. Fewer people are making wood framed aircraft. At Gilbert Aircraft in Brantford Ontario, next door to Aircraft Spruce there is a $50 transport charge involved as well. A possible figure explained to me from 'Gilbert' that 80$/ Can / foot could be the price right now. However there is a company in Cambridge ON. that supplies aircraft grade milled Douglas Fir that is much cheaper and in CAN funds - don't know the cost of it or shipping to B.C.. WICKS sounds good if transport isn't too expensive Email me off line if this interests you in your quest for wood garyains 'at'kwic.com Gary Canada -Original Message- From: Pete Klapp via KRnet Subject: Re: KR> Supplier of aircraft wood I went to Wicks. Hi Wayne, It is the shop where I got my first select grade DF sticks few days ago. The wood seems really good but Wood Source are reluctant to mill it to acceptable sections. The density of the DF varies a lot, from -10% to +40% from the nominal... This is my Plan B source, buy a lot of long 11/16"x1-1/2" sticks and split/mill them to 11/16"x11/16" at some other place. I understand well now the situation with the aircraft wood suppliers. I may try first to get decent Douglas Fir select lumber that I will test myself. If I fail to get what I expect, I will order from Wicks or Aircraft Spruce Canada. Thanks to all ! > There really isn't any other aircraft quality wood sources here in Canada > these days as wood is less popular than it once was. > I used Aircraft Spruce who has a CDN store at Brantford airport.

Stefan There really isn't any other aircraft quality wood sources here in Canada these days as wood is less popular than it once was. I used Aircraft Spruce who has a CDN store at Brantford airport. Been there done that if you want to get 14 foot sticks go through wicks and aircraft spruce doesnt have them. In the end Wicks was less expensive even with the Canada dollar in the crapper. KR> Supplier of aircraft wood
I am trying to find a supplier of aircraft wood nearest to my place. This seems not to be easy Other than Aircraft Spruce or Wicks, do you know another (prefferably Canadian) supplier of aircraft grade Spruce or Douglas Fir? I tried to reach Western Aircraft Supplies in Slocan, BC but could only leave a message on an answering machine, my faxes cannot pass neither... Thanks in advance, Stefan Ottawa, ON s_sbal "at" hotmail.com
