Don't know how many there are but I am privileged to have flown both types
successfully anyway. The Tri-gear is a much easier ground handler with over
the nose visiblity and directional stability. However, the taildragger is
still the best handling dragger in aviation.Tommy W.

That is exactly what Troy Petteway told me before I started flying mine, and
he's owned and flown them all, and has a gazillion hours of taildragger time
(not to mention Citation Bizjet and King Air time). Then he flew mine on
the first flight and declared that mine was the best ground handling
taildragger KR he'd ever flown, and that "any idiot" could fly mine with no
problem, to which I attribute my great success. Mine is different only in
that my main gear is pretty wide stance at 8' (despite the Diehl gear
instructions), perfectly aligned, and my tailwheel is hung pretty far back
too. The ground handling difficulties that I hear people complain about are
pretty much a mystery to me, as I've never experienced them!

I am looking forward to flying Jones' KR though, as that'll make me a little
smarter on what I'm missing...

I agree, I was absolutely shocked the first time I taxiid mine, after
reading about all the "how hard it is" stories. It was like driving a go
cart only easier.

I could convert..but then there is a time for building and a time for
flyingI built for seven years and now I am loving flying! It sure would
be hard to tear into those stub wings and revert to building again.

Don't let these guys start to erode your ego, Mark. The thrill of
flying a KR is not dependant on where the extra wheel is hanging.

I doubt that anyone is eroding his ego. It is proably just the medication
talking.

Well, you could fit the tailwheel on while you are still flying it as a nose
dragger. Take a weekend to reverse the mains. Remove the nose wheel when
you are comfortable and really fly with a training wheel for a while!
