KR> Room for fuel tank

2008-10-12 Thread raybeth...@sbcglobal.net
I am building a KR2S. There are two shelves which are attached to the
upper firewall. My fuel tank rests
on the lower shelf and I do not want that. My problem is:: shall I cut off
about the aft 2 inches of the shelf,
or about 1/2" of the fuel tank? My main concern is structural.

KR> Room for fuel tank

2008-10-12 Thread raybeth...@sbcglobal.net
This for Jeff Scott:
Since I don't have your E-mail address, I'm answering by way of the net.
Thanks for your reply. I agree that it is best to leave the shelves alone. I
did
some checking today, and I think I can alleviate the problem by adding a
spacer under the forward edge of the fuel tank
   Thanks, Jeff.

KR> room

2008-10-12 Thread James Babcock
I'm your height and weight and have flown a standard KR-2 (original plans)
for 15yr. I wish I had built a KR2S, but at the time I built my KR, the S
plans weren't published. (In the newsletters, I'd read about guys building
stretch versions, but was unwilling to deviate from the plans)
To answer your question based on my experience, sure your knees can clear
the panel, but after about 45 min in flight, you'll be wishing for about 4
more inches of leg room so you can stretch your legs out completely. A
custom seat cushion can help some to increase your comfort.
My $0.02, your results may vary. James Babcock N127JB

2008-10-12 Thread Al Hawkins
Hi James

I am 6'2" and fit in my KR2, as I cut the panel higher at my legs.
However my legs are only 32" long, so my main problem is headroom.
