  have been made:

  thanks for report.

Please, can you please write small report for us, which are not
  developers, too? :-)

In last days the KTechlab was removed from debian (testing), and
then it will be removed from all distros, which are debian based.

This is not a good news. I guess we will have to get in contact with
the maintainers, and see what needs to be done.

Is Ktechlab installable and how is usable? Is here some (alfa|beta)
  release?

 Status:
Ktechlab is split in 2 parts now:

 - gui: in master git branch; for Julian it works, I've ran into
strange installation problems. It supposed to have the drawing and
routing part working. (here comes some kdevplatform plugin system
 bashing)

 - simulator: it's in the minimal_simulator branch, mostly I'm working
on it. The simulator core seems to be working, I'm porting the
components and writing test cases for them. Depending in the effort i
can allocate to it, in a few months it should be completely
 functional.

 - we should see how we can integrate the simulator with the Caneda
project; this way a simple, qt based gui could be available

 Todo:

 - merge the 2 branches; we should have the flexibility for usage with
 2 user interfaces

 - after we have the source code in 1 place, start integrating the
components from the simulator with the gui parts

 - meanwhile porting more and more components can be done

These are the next tasks to do. More on the list are the flowcode,
 microbe, and so on.

For now, the gui can be tested, but it has some installation issues.
The simulator also has some test-cases, which will print out
 (hopefully) everything OK.

An alpha should be released when a few components can be tested with
 the gui.

How long will be porting - in weeks, in moths or in years? Is here
  some plan?

I'd say it highly depends on the time we can invest in it. I'd like to
have the first testable version out in 3 months, then progressively
 reach feature parity with 0.3.7.

[Ktechlab-devel] News about the simulator since the last update

2011-05-07 Thread Zoltan Padrah
 Hello,

since the last update on the components, the following improvements
have been made:

- ground search seems to work well;
- current source works;
- inductor and
- capacitor seem to pass basic tests
- porting of the diode (ECDiode) has been started.

It seems that the diode is broken. It shows very strange values. I
guess I will try to compare it to the last versions that worked...

That's all for now. When we know how to integrate the simulator in the
main branch (see the previous email on the list), I'd like to have
this branch merged to the main branch.

Have a nice weekend,
  Zoltan

The porting is done. I've took the code from v0.3.7, and adapted it a
little. It seems to work correctly. Testcase and code added to git.

Re: [Ktechlab-devel] News about the simulator since the last update

2011-05-07 Thread Zoltan Padrah
2011/5/8 Alan Grimes agri...@speakeasy.net:
 Zoltan Padrah wrote:

Yeah, that's been problematic for a long time. I strongly suggest you
beg/borrow/steal/even buy a copy of Circuit Simulation by Farid N. Najm.

The simulator in ktechlab tries to be a quick hackjob to work on a
Pentium 2. If you want a simulator that actually works, and computes
currents correctly, then you need to study the book. =\

It's a problem of time and energy. Both are limited.

The simulator seems to generate the correct output, so until proven
otherwise, it's good enough (tm). I'm adding test cases, so if someone
can make a test which show a problem, then we it can be tested.

Qucs project has some nice, free documentation on simulation. In some
cases I use that.

But right now our priority is getting running on QT4.

Agreed.

At this point I vote that we declare kdevplatform a lost cause because
it is about as stable as a free neutron (which has an 18 minute half-life).

This issue needs more investigation. In theory kdevplatform is nice
but the implementation has some problems. Maybe we should hack it
around, and ship a hacked version with ktechlab. But then we have to
maintain that.

Are there other document/project management frameworks that are more
 stable?

Kdevplatform tries to be a software platform, for easier development
and high integration.
