[Bug 31778] User must be in group "nvram"

2006-04-25 Thread drx
I submitted this bug and found out: the user has to be in the group "nvram" to
use this feature. This can be easily enabled through the user control panel. --
So the problem is not really the Thinkpad control panel, but the miles long
list of groups that can be assigned to a user which is not explained. The
default is even all groups unticked, which would not give a new user audio or
opengl by default. I suggest to redesign this part.
Best greetings,
drx

I can't try Dapper, if it is solved in Dapper, that's great.

2006-04-25 Thread Pascal
I tested, and it doesn't work. But I don't know if autodetecting it is actually
possible???

It works fine to select danish chars in the live-installer, but how can the
user know that..

Anyway, maybe there should be a prompt asking which language/charset you use...
only problem is it takes some simplicity out of the live cd. Though maybe its
worth it...

2006-04-25 Thread Pascal
These tests were performed on a dapper install fully up to date (10 minuttes
ago). Not the beta cd.

>Things work great in system settings

I'm afraid not, though I must admit I didn't get the problem where I could just
get in without writing the right password :-)
#1
Trouble was that I couldn't get into printer settings in "administrator mode",
it let me enter the password and it reloaded but with no red border and stating
that I should try administrator mode.
#2
Another thing that concerns me is that after you press go back it doesn't close
the "administrator mode" session(you can go right back to it). This should be
closed, as it is not indicated that you have root privileges in the main window.

2006-04-25 Thread shiechka
Public bug reported:

Affects: kdebase konqueror (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Please use a more universal, robust way of naming the system:/media/
entries.

My confusing case :

The are 2 instances of / dir in system:/media/. One is actuall Dappers
root dir, the other is a partiotion labeled "/ " by my Breezy
instalatoin on the same box. Confusing.

My windows partition is described as some "10G Media". What the heck is
that? Ah, my windoows on sda1. Why am I forced to guess this?

The other partition is displayed with it's label name "/home". It is
labeled so as it is a HOME partition of my Breezy instalation on the
box. But obviously I have Dappers home somewhere else. Missleading.

I bet a newbie would get puzzled a lot.

Please don't use partitions labels for HDDs description. Rather their
device names. hda1, sda2, etc. That'd be robust and clear.

[Bug 40571] Re: KDE Screensavers only work if Power Saver is activated

2006-04-25 Thread Ewan-grantham
This seemed to first occur with Flight 6, which is the problem (IMHO) between
using upgrades and doing fresh installs. If you do a fresh install on your
laptop, do you see this?

Also, to the extent it affects this, the two machines being discussed are both
desktops. Perhaps the Power Saver option is misreading something about their
ACPI support that is different from how a Laptop uses ACPI?

If there's anything else I can do to help with further debugging this, please
let me know. I know there was one other person in the forums who said they had
the same issue.

[Bug 17981] Re: Provide easy way to enable/disable printer sharing

2006-04-25 Thread Martin Pitt
 cupsys (1.1.99.rc3-0ubuntu1) dapper; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream bug fix release 1.2RC3, UVF exception approved by Matt
 Zimmerman.
   * Add debian/patches/56_revert_svn_5438.dpatch: Revert upstream svn commit
 5438 (fixed handling of products/manufacturers with spaces in the name)
 for now since it causes regressions in gnome-cups-add. Will be reactivated
 later when the issue is sorted out with upstream.
   * Update patches for new upstream release.
   * Remove debian/patches/20_httpGetHostname_crash.dpatch, fixed upstream.
   * Add debian/patches/14_dont_force_ssl.dpatch: Upstream now requires
 encryption by default for accessing /admin/, but our GUI frontends do not
 yet cope with that. Disable SSL requirement for now to revert to the old
 behaviour.
   * debian/patches/08_cupsd.conf.conf.d.dpatch:
 - Set "BrowseAddress @LOCAL"; without this, sending browsing information
   does not work (Browsing still has to be enabled). Since enable_browsing
   now works for exporting printers, too, this Closes: LP#17981
 - Add some comments to point out that the Port and Browsing settings are
   moved to /etc/cups/cups.d/.
   * debian/cupsys.postrm: Clean up passwd.md5 on purge.
   * debian/cupsys.init.d: Pre-create error_log, too, and clean up code a bit.
 Closes: LP#41267
   * debian/cupsys.postinst: If upgrading from Breezy, adapt the inclusion of
 external browsing configuration in cupsd.conf to retain the correct
 setting for modified cupsd.conf files.
   * debian/cupsys.config:
 - Fix handling of cupsd-browsing.conf -> cups.d/browse.conf transition for
   breezy->dapper upgrades.
 - Fix browse.conf parsing to set the correct debconf default value, so
   that the browse setting is not reset to 'off' on upgrades.
   Closes: LP#38704
   * Add debian/patches/57_svn_5461.dpatch:
 - Properly HTML-quote the printer name so that names containing e. g. '+'
   work properly in the web interface.
 - Upstream svn commit 5461.
 - Closes: LP#37018

Public bug reported:

Affects: kdebase kdebase-bin (Ubuntu)

 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Hello,

when using the -u option of kdesu (as in "kdesu -u auser -c kwrite"), a
password dialog pops up (as expected), but the only password working is
that of the admin user, the password of user "auser" (from the example)
is not accepted. The owner of the process "kwrite" is auser, all
permissions are evaluated for this users and the home-directory is
correct, just the password is not auser's. This is a bug - or is it a

I've taken a look to your menu.lst file.

Give this a try: I think you need only one instance of the command splashimage.
I assume that your (hd0,4) IS your /boot partition. So you shouldn't have to
repeat that in the path you specify. Try:

splashimage=(hd0,4)/grub/splashimages/KUBUNTU_splashscreen_blue_neon_logo_03.xpm.gz
instead.

Perhaps... but the developer took it seriously enough to hunt down the
cause ..and it was the *absence* of the import statement. Not
everyone --meaning, obviously, "myself"-- is so script-savvy as yourself,
unfortunately. Some of us need more help than others. It's that tolerance
that has made this community what it is. I had my belly-full of forums that

[Bug 41282] kde-guidance doesn't detect correct settings in xinerama mode

2006-04-25 Thread Bart Verwilst
Public bug reported:

Affects: kde-guidance (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I have 3 screens, all Neovo F-417's.

One pc has 1 of those screens.
kde-guidance shows these settings:

plug 'n' play
Horiz. : 24-80
Vert. : 49-75

The other pc has xinerama. Kde-guidance detects these settings for the screens:

plug 'n' play
Horiz. : 28.0-33.0
Vert. : 43-72

Although they're 3 identical screens.
The xinerama screens have a virtual desktop that is bigger than the actual
screen so that moving the mouse to the edge of the screen shifts the desktop.

Anything i can provide to get this fixed?

Thanks a lot!

[Bug 37072] Re: After installing (and enabling) of nvidia-glx, KDM makes wrong DRI guesses

2006-04-25 Thread Luka Renko
If your X server driver does not set DPI properly, this is due to the fact that
it cannot autodetect your display size.
You can help him with setting DisplaySize in Monitor section as mentioned in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AchimBohnet

You should also note that kde-guidance has currenly bug 40683, which prevents
setting font DPI to proper size during login. See that bug report for how to
workaround the bug until proper fix is released.

[Bug 41263] (Amarok beta3) Change tracks alone

2006-04-25 Thread Didier Raboud
Public bug reported:

Affects: amarok (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Kubuntu Dapper Up2Date with amarok 1.4beta3

Sometimes, when running a random selection (and others probably, but
it's what I use...), after a track change, the track changes again (5
seconds).

This doesn't seem to be related to my files, as I can read them again
with no problem.

[Bug 41257] Splash screen shown even if unchecked

2006-04-25 Thread Didier Raboud
Public bug reported:

Affects: amarok (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Kubuntu Dapper Up2Date with amarok 1.4-beta3

When Amarok starts, it shows the splash screen, even if I have it
unchecked in options. According to short speech on #amarok, this seems
packaging bug.

[Bug 24753] Re: [Bug 24753] Re: Can't shutdown the computer by KDE frontend as **root** password is required

2006-04-25 Thread Max Botar
Sorry, but in the meantime I switched to Mac OS X and can't test it
at the moment...
Maybe I have a VMware here in the next weeks and can then test it on
a virtual machine...

Greetings
Max

[Bug 41252] Re: Kcontrol launches the wrong kcmshell module when configuring a printer

2006-04-25 Thread Luca Beltrame
** Description changed:

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open up kcontrol;
  2. Load the printing module;
  3. Click on "Administrator mode" and input user password;

  Expected behavior:

  The configuration panel using root access should open.

  Actual behavior:

  Nothing happens.

  Reasons:

- The kcmshell command used to load the module calls up "kcmshell
- printmgr". However the right module to call is printers (e.g. "kcmshell
- printers"). Notice that systemsettings is actually not showing this bug
- (i.e. it works correctly)..
+ The kcmshell command used to load the module calls up "kcmshell printmgr".
However the right module to call is printers (e.g. "kcmshell printers").
+ UPDATE: This also affects systemsettings as well.

  This happens on Kubuntu Dapper Beta 6.06 updated as of 25 April 2006 at
  10.00 GMT+1.

The most problematic bug (enable does not apply config first) will get fixed
with next upload (see bug 35509).

I will try to reproduce also other reports in comment from Tom Fernandes. Tom:

[Bug 37210] Re: Network unavailable on boot

2006-04-25 Thread sunwave
Hi all

I've had the same Problem with the marvell yukon (skge on eth0).
Had exactly the same error when i used kcontrol to configure the network
device. The only thing i could add was a default gateway.

But after looking at /etc/network/interfaces i saw that kcontrol added the
default gw entry for eth1 instead of eth0.

Then i deleted the eth1 entries added by kcontrol and changed all my eth0
entries to eth1.

Rebooted and it works fine for the first look.

Network is up and running and can now be reconfigured at kcontrol.

Hope this workaround helps.

Have a nice day!
