[Bug 45810] Re: (Dapper) Doesn't start if the cursor is in the middle of the screen.

2006-05-21 Thread kko
VincentRC: Good catch. I hope you don't mind that I made a slight
grammatical change to the bug's title to make it unambiguous.

Same thing happens in Breezy with:
Qt: 3.3.4
KDE: 3.4.3
Katapult: 0.3.1

I did some further testing on this, and here's how Katapult behaves
under different window focus settings:

"Click to Focus": Moving the mouse does not affect Katapult. Clicking on
Katapult window does not affect it, i.e. behaves as expected.

"Focus Strictly Under Mouse":
- When mouse is in the Katapult area (center of screen) when Katapult hotkey is
pressed, shows a faint effort to show Katapult, but disappears thereafter.
Katapult somehow fails to properly grab the focus.
- When mouse is elsewhere, Katapult is able to start properly. See however also
the last note.

"Focus Follows Mouse" AND "Focus Under Mouse":
- When mouse is in the Katapult area (center of screen) when Katapult's hotkey
is pressed, it starts properly. However, see following.

"Focus Follows Mouse", "Focus Under Mouse" AND "Focus Strictly Under Mouse":
- When Katapult has been started, and mouse is moved on top of it, it stays
focused. If you quickly move mouse off Katapult and then back on, Katapult
starts to fade and then briefly stops fading (when you bring the mouse back)
and then continues fading, i.e. doesn't regain focus.

** Summary changed:

- (Dapper) Doesn't start everytime the cursor is in the middle of the screen.
+ (Dapper) Doesn't start if the cursor is in the middle of the screen.

** Summary changed:

- (Dapper) Doesn't start if the cursor is in the middle of the screen.
+ (Dapper & Breezy) Doesn't start if the cursor is in the middle of the screen.

** Changed in: katapult (Ubuntu)

2006-05-21 Thread kko
Public bug reported:

KDE Control Center - Peripherals - Mouse has the following option:

[Bug 45843] Right-click context menu disactivates the very hotkeys (keyboard shortcuts) it shows

2006-05-21 Thread kko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

On KDE Desktop and in Konqueror:
1. Open a context menu by right-clicking on a file.

[Bug 45846] When a menu is opened, KDE & Konqueror shortcuts stop working

2006-05-21 Thread kko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

In konqueror:

1. Open up "Location" -menu, either with mouse or with "Alt-L".

2. You will see the option "New Window _ Ctrl-N", if you pressed
Alt-L it will be highlighted too, by default. (With mouse you could have
something else highlighted.)

3. Press Ctrl-N.

-> No response.

4. Press Ctrl-Fx to switch desktop.

-> No response.

I see no reason for keyboard shortcuts to stop working, when a menu
(showing the very same shortcuts, none-the-less!) is open.

I suspect this is a wider KDE issue than just konqueror.

For the same issue in Gnome please see bug 32860.

2006-05-21 Thread Video Toaster
I tried adding "cdfss" to the entry for /dev/hdc in my fstab and my CD
drive does now in fact show up in Kaffeine's drop down list. I can now
click OK to the message and the CD plays - however, I have to click OK
almost every time I play a CD.

I noticed that the address for CD audio in Kaffeine's xine settings is
"system:/media/hdc". Could it have something to do with Kaffeine not
supporting the system:/ protocol? I tried changing it to "media:/hdc",
but it refused to save my change - when I clicked "Apply", closed the
settings window, and then checked the setting again, it was back to
"system:/media/hdc".

[Bug 45872] "Automatically select icons" mouse configure option overly eager

2006-05-21 Thread kko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

It should only affect icons, as it says.

As it stands currently (Kubuntu Breezy, KDE 3.4.3), the feature is
largely unusable, which is a shame, because this would be, in a single-
click-to-execute -environment, IMO _the_ most useable way to select a
file / icon.

The "Automatically select icons" -option currently affects for instance the
following, which it shouldn't:
- KDE control modules (try e.g. "Configure Window Behaviour" and move mouse
over the list on the left). This is still manageable (due to workable page
design), and not my main issue.
- Web-based selection forms. Try the KDE Bug Tracking System's query
(http://bugs.kde.org/query.cgi) with this option on, and move the mouse above
the selection boxes. This makes it very hard to use the feature.

The following I have seen mentioned, but haven't tested myself - see the three
open KDE BTS reports, in which this issue is reported. I will add a reference
to these:
- Text completion boxes (with auto-complete suggestions), save file dialogs,
most probably something else.

[Bug 45872] Re: "Automatically select icons" mouse configure option overly eager

2006-05-21 Thread kko
PS. Please see also bug 45843, which further increases the difficulty of
easily selecting and e.g. renaming a file, thus aggravating the problem
- there's currently a scarcity of practical ways to select a file in
KDE's single-click-to-execute environment. Luckily, the situation should
be remediable.

I am aware of the Ctrl-LeftClick option, but do not consider it terribly
practical compared to what could be achieved by either the
"automatically select icons" or "context menu not disactivating keyboard
shortcuts".

[Bug 45910] unable to install printerdrivers for HP635

2006-05-21 Thread Menno
Public bug reported:

unable to get printerdrivers installed for HP 635 Officejet using the
System Settings -->Printers in Kubuntu (dapper 6.06 beta)

i was able to see the screen containing the drivers for my printer, but
after choosing the recommended one i got the following message (in
dutch). Translating in my best english i'll give after the dutch message

Translation in English---

demanded driver could not be loaded:[20:00]the Foomatic-driver
[HP-OfficeJet_635,hpijs] could not be made. Possibly because it doesn't
exist, or you do not have the permissions.

End of Translation

However i was able to install the driver manually. The printer works
perfectly now.

[Bug 34389] Re: [Bug 34389] Re: Lid state is incorrect

2006-05-21 Thread Ben
I agree with this assessment.

As a data point, my laptop (a dell 700m) worked fine with windows XP.

I'm also having a problem where closing the lid sometimes doesn't
suspend. Also closing the lid while in the process of hibernating
pauses the hibernation -- this is a real problem, the standard usage
pattern is to click "hibernate", close the lid, put it in the laptop
bag. If I do this now the computer will overheat and/or run out of
batteries fast. I'm thinking I should file another bug report...

[Bug 42965] Re: Can't add a printer in KDE: parser error?

2006-05-21 Thread TuxFan
I was right above, that my CUPS+SAMBA system bug wasn't related to this
bug. I couldn't get the HP LJ 1320 thru SMB (on a windows machine)
working either, but after an upgrade both work. I guess it was a CUPS
problem which was fixed in cupsys version 1.2.0-0ubuntu5 (fixes handling
of spaces in manufacturer names).

Now everything seems to work fine, but I still think that the magic
command (foomatic-cleanupdrivers) should be run somewhere after
upgrading some foomatic package. Most likely new installations don't
have this problem, but for those people upgrading from Breezy to Dapper
it might exist.

[Bug 45940] UVF: amarok 1.3.9 can't handle system:/media kio

2006-05-21 Thread goldenear
Public bug reported:

I'm using Kubuntu Dapper. In konqueror, I go to system:/media/disk_c/music
and I then open mymusic.ogg (click on the file)... The file then open in amarok
but it can be played.

If I open the file from media:/disk_c/music/mymusic.ogg it's well played
in amarok. Amarok 1.3.9 doesn't like the system:/ kio

FIX:
I've just update amarok to 1.4 (deb http://kubuntu.org/packages/amarok-14
dapper main) and it works properly. I can play files from
system:/media/disk_c/music. Amarok 1.4 does handle the system:/ kio properly.

Amarok 1.4 shoud be included in Dapper (UVF ?)

Oh, and I can also confirm (as I also said in my initial bug report) the
explanations from Yuriy Kozlov.

I had to go to a specific view, to have my button then at the end in all

at least the most productive ones..)

[Bug 45650] Re: View Mode button unavailable (really!)

2006-05-21 Thread Markus Majer
Okay.. After doing that procedure:
http://kubuntu.org/faq.php#konqueror
once again (!) and tweaking and playing around with some solution ideas (so I
dont now which worked at the end, sorry) it suddenly appears and i managed (via
a new profile, in a state, it appeared) to get access to these essential
buttons.

But I would letting it here as a bug, because it feels like partially
luck that I got them now, and 2nd now newbie from Windows would manage
this, I think. But they will ask "where are these buttons were I can get
a list view, like in the Windows Explorer?" - so its still, and at least
a (usability) bug for me.

[Bug 45749] Re: Unable to change Firefox fonts

2006-05-21 Thread BobBlum
I'm experimenting with numerous Firefox distributions at this time.
Firefox has this problem only with Kubuntu and MEPIS - and not with any
GNOME distributions. Kubuntu does not seem to be properly configured to
work with Firefox 1.5. Resetting parameters in about:config and
userChrome.css have no effect. It is obviously a Kubuntu issue.
Because of the popularity of Firefox, I don't see how Kubuntu can be
released if it cannot coexist with Firefox.

I've also ran into this problem and find it annoying. My problem has
