[Bug 13530] Re: nvidia-glx crashes/lockups
This bug appears to have become a catch-all for nVidia binary-driver crashes. For the subset that shows the symptoms that X hangs (100$ CPU), but the mouse works, I believe the cause is the handling of the XRender extension. With the legacy drivers, this is done in software, and when XRender crashes, the entire screen locks (and there is no useful debug information due to nVidia drivers). For these cards, try disabling the Render extension (and disable RenderAccell in xorg.conf). With the newer drivers, this is done in hardware on the card, and there seems to be a bug in the nVidia drivers causing huge increases in heat generation when processing XRender and GL calls simultaneously. When the thermal ceiling is hit, and the card slows, XRender processing is also slowed or halted, causing an apparent freeze (and X looping while waiting for feedback from the card). For these cards, either disable Render as above, underclock, or install additional cooling hardware. -- nvidia-glx crashes/lockups https://launchpad.net/bugs/13530 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

Can Ubuntu consider using "dv1394/0" rather than "dv1394-0" per the convention attempting to be established at http://www.linux1394.org/faq.php#udev ? That FAQ item has existed for some time. Next kino version changes its default dv1394 device to /dev/dv1394/0 (currently using a legacy devfs name). With dv1394-0, new Kino users will have a broken configuration out of the box. Kino is not able to use video1394, and usage of video1394 for DV is deprecated. The best solution at the moment is to create a new group for raw1394. [Bug 46948] [Laptop Regression] Kubuntu doesn't honour Fn Key request
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop Kubuntu, at this state, doesn't honour Fn Key Request (most likely ACPI Events). So e.g. Suspend/Hibernate/Mute etc. are not working correctly. This is a serious regression in Dapper, because it was working in Breezy. The tested laptop is a Canonical Sponsored Laptop Toshiba Portege R200 (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/ToshibaPortegeR200). Neither KLaptopDaemon nor any other application is supporting the dapper introduced new functionality in acpi-utils. What is the problem? If you press an Fn Key e.g. Hibernate, you can see in /var/log/acpi the event coming to acpid and acpid is triggering the correct script in the /etc/acpi/ (e.g. hibernate == hibernatebtn.sh). The executed script is calling the `acpi_fakekey $LINUX_KEYCODE_SETUP_FOR_ACTION` command. This keycode is a linux keycode, which is catched nowhere inside Kubuntus KDE. Running the real e.g. hibernate.sh script in /etc/acpi/, hibernation, suspend to ram etc. is working correctly without any problems. This problem was discussed many of times and due to time problems it is not fixed. For releasing a 3 year LTS release for Kubuntu, with printed shipit cds, this is a serious regression and does not show any confidence into Kubuntu as KDE release for the user. I file this bug not as a rant, but as a documentation. If we want to have a working Kubuntu release which is working 100% out of the box, we should think about fixing those regressions asap, and postponing the official Kubuntu release a couple of weeks more. KLaptopDaemon needs to be tought to honour those acpi requests and/or we have to adjust KMilo. ** Affects: kubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Severity: Major Priority: High Status: Unconfirmed ** Changed in: kubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal => Major Priority: None => High -- [Laptop Regression] Kubuntu doesn't honour Fn Key request https://launchpad.net/bugs/46948 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 39658] Re: [dist-upgrader] dist-upgrade wants to delete almost kde packages while migrating from breezy to dapper
Looking over the dist-upgrade logs it seems like it makes sensible descisions. The problem seems to be the backport repositories for kde 3.52. Could you please disable them (and koffice1.5) and see if the apts dist- upgrade works better then? [Bug 35460] Re: Dapper: Sound doesn't work properly
I have the same soundcard as the user above. I installed the dapper release candidate and didn't hear sound anymore. I made a fresh installation over breezy (where the sound works fine ... ) Is someone working on this problem ? -- Dapper: Sound doesn't work properly https://launchpad.net/bugs/35460 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 46900] Can't resize window
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kfouleggs This bug appears in Kubuntu Breezy and Kubuntu Dapper on my system (I didn't have this bug in Hoary). I can't resize game's window. The original size is very small. In window menu "Maximize" option is shadowed. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start kfouleggs 2. Try to change window size in any way. What happens: 3. Window doesn't change it's size ** Affects: kdegames (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- Can't resize window https://launchpad.net/bugs/46900 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 46897] "Human vs Human" mode broken.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kfouleggs This bug appears in Kubuntu Breezy and Kubuntu Dapper on my system. When I try to play multiplayer game One player (first) can't use his keys. It doesn't matter which keys are assigned for him, the only key that works for this player is "Drop Down". Second player's keys work just fine. I also tried to remove file '~/.kde/share/config/kfouleggsrc' and restart the game. But the result was the same. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start kfouleggs 2. In menu select 'Settings->Human vs Human' 3. (optional) Reassign keys for first and second player through 'Settings->Configure Shortcuts' What happens: 4. The only key that works for the first player is "drop Down" ** Affects: kdegames (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- "Human vs Human" mode broken. https://launchpad.net/bugs/46897 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 46877] configure dialog of krandrtray is empty
Public bug reported: the krandrtray application has a popup-menu enumeration the possible screen resolution. In that menu is also the configure dialog. When selecting that menu entry, a dialog shows up with NO widgets (except for help, default, ok, apply and cancel). The part of the dialog above the bottom button area is void of any widgets. ** Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- configure dialog of krandrtray is empty https://launchpad.net/bugs/46877 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 46875] KDE does not save requested screen resolution
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kcontrol the KDM login dialog shows up in the correct resolution which means that X is configured properly. When I login as my user the resolution switches to 640x480. When I select kcontrol->display and set the resolution manually or use krandrtray to switch to the resolution I want things work just fine : resolution is switched. When I log back out and back in the resolution is back to 640x480. After some searching I found a file in .kde/share/config called startupconfig. That file contains kcmrandrc options for screens. In my file there are two definitions (screen0 and screen1). Kinfocenter -> X-Server shows X only knows about one screen (#0) The resolution specified for section screen1 matches the resolution I get when I log in (I tried setting the value manually and indeed loggin in selects the requested resolution). So I think that somebody in KDE (who ?) responsible for selecting the screen resolution select - wrongly - screen1 where it should take screen0 ** Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- KDE does not save requested screen resolution https://launchpad.net/bugs/46875 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
