[Bug 60255] Re: System settings - appearance = Crash.
This may be related to https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/kde-systemsettings/+bug/56051 After dist-upgrading from 3.5.3 to 3.5.5 my Appearance System Settings crashes with this output usually. Sometimes the output is the one listed in the linked bug report. If there is any info that I can be of interest (config files, etc...), please let me know. Right now I am not sure what can be useful. [Bug 56051] Re: systemsettings crashes when trying to open Appearance
I think this issue may be related to https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/kdebase/+bug/60255 I just dist-upgraded from 3.5.3 to KDE 3.5.5, and appearance always crashes for me as well. Most of the time the console output is the output displayed in the other bug report, but a few times the output was this listed here as well. I am not sure what could be the issue. I am not doing anything exotic or strange with my settings. [Bug 64075] Re: amarok can't play flac
I am using Dapper Drake on amd64 ith a fully updated amarok, and I have libxine-extracodecs installed. I get the same error message as Jared Sutton, that is Error Loading Media There is no audio channel! This bug has been the subject of a discussion in the forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=125), where the problem was identified to be xine reporting that flac files have no audio. The following patch to libxine seems to fix the problem. http://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=16315action=view Ivomans (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=125postcount=17), Mentok (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1253322postcount=18), Jiilik (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1413567postcount=39) and seem to have built binaries which fix the problem for a great many people. A later security patch has required a new build for this bug by ivomans (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1585150postcount=72) and dukeku (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1585289postcount=74). [Bug 65662] Re: Not possible to mount USB stick after upgrading to kde-3.5.5
Another me-too here, except I get an actual error message: A security policy in place prevents this sender from sending this message to this recipient, see message bus configuration file (rejected message had interface org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume member Mount error name (unset) destination org.freedesktop.Hal) How to reproduce: Inserting the USB drive causes the what do you want to do? dialog from the KDE Daemon. I click Open in New Window but no window appears. Also, when I have Amarok running, it asks to auto-configure the drive for music playing. Since the dialogs haven't worked, I go to media:/ in konqueror and click on the drive. The drive is labeled unmounted removable medium in the on-hover popup. Clicking on the icon brings up the above error message. I can access the flash drive by cli, though, with the command `sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdi1 /mnt/flashdrive/`, so I'm guessing it's not a system error, just a KDE one. Just a conjecture. I've never had problems with USB sticks before on KDE, but I'm not 100% certain this bug is from KDE 3.5.5 I do remember it working before I upgraded from Edgy Beta, though. Hopefully this info can help the devs debug what's going on. [Bug 3303] Re: ipod:/ does not work
I'm actually now experiencing a vaguely similar issue in KDE 3.5.5 on edgy. The KDE Daemon can no longer auto-mount removable media (usb flash drive, ipod nano, etc). The drives are visible in `lsusb` `dcop kded mediamanger fullList` and also media:/ but can't be automounted. cli works fine `sudo mount /dev/sdj2 /media/ipod/` See bug 65662 for details. It may be a related issue, since I'm no longer able to mount my ipod because of that bug, and therefore the ipodslave doesn't work either. Re: [Bug 22336] Re: laptop overheats when performing CPU intensive tasks.
Have you all simply given up on Ubuntu? How are you coping with the effects of this bug? It has forced me to try just about every single distro out there, and sadly, it affects most major distro's. The only ones I've found it doesn't affect are Mandriva 2007 and Gentoo 2006.1 Both of which I feel are just not up to the level of experience I want that Ubuntu gives me. The only reason I even REMOTELY considered switching to another distro was because of this bug. Now I'm stuck. My laptop is broken, and I can't use anything else. And Edgy won't be fixed either it seems. This means, it'll be a whole nother 6 months I have to wait, and hope this bug is fixed. I can't afford to buy another laptop. I won't use windows. My only option is to try and either use the busted Ubuntu, with the overheat issue (which I've dealt with for 6 months -- at the peril of a lot of work being lost at times), or go with Gentoo which is quite a painful thing for someone used to the ease of Ubuntu. (Even if you've used Linux full-time for 10 years like I have) What are you guys doing with relation to this bug? Has everyone simply just dealt with it, or have you switched distro's. Thanks, Trae PS. I want my favorite distro back!
