[Bug 112781] .kde directory owned by root, problems running kde apps on gnome system

2007-05-06 Thread Martijn van Iersel
Public bug reported:

After installing a basic ubuntu system with only a few kde apps (e.g.
kdevelop in my case), the kde apps don't work because they need write
access to the ~/.kde directory. The problem here is that the ~/.kde
directory is owned by root. A quick sudo chown -R martijn:martijn .kde
solves the problem completely. However, I feel that this shouldn't be
necessary.

This should reproduce the problem:
- install a base system of ubuntu feisty
- sudo apt-get install kdevelop
- start kdevelop from the menu.

After starting kdevelop for the first time, I see these error messages:

dialog 1: There was an error setting up inter-process communications for
KDE. The message returned by the system was: Could not read network
connection list. /home/martijn/.DCOPserver_margarethea__0 Please check
that the dcopserver program is running

dialog 2: Will not save configuration. Configuration file
/home/martijn/.kde/share/config/kdeveloprc not writeable.
Configuration file /home/martijn/,kde/share/config/kdeglobals not
writeable. Please contact your system administrator.

dialog 3: Unable to find plugins, KDevelop will not work properly.
Please make sure that KDevelop is installed in your KDE directory;
otherwise, you have to add KDevelop's installation path to the
environmnet variable KDEDIRS and run kbuildsyscoca. Restart KDevelop
afterwards.

This problem was there on edgy, and now also on feisty. Frankly I'm very
surprised that this problem persists. A quick search of the ubuntu
forums reveal that many others have this problem too:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=261872,
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=343295,
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=324173 and more

from Olivier Goffart 2007-05-06 12:06 on gentoo with kopete 0.12.4.
Tested with kopete-kopete kopete-psi and works fine so far.

Would be nice if the patch could be included to the knetwork/kopete deb

The KDE Printing Manager does not list the PPDs of Gutenprint
5.0.0.99.1 neither the auto-generated ones of Feisty's Gutenprint
package nor the static (ready-made) ones of the distribution-independent
LSB Gutenprint 5.0.0.99.1 package from OpenPrinting. This meaans there
must be a bug in the KDE Printing Manager.

[Bug 109507] Re: xorg eat 100% of the CPU when I use superkaramba and lock my desktop for a while ([apport] Xorg crashed with signal 5)

Hi,

I added kubuntu-team as a subscripted one, because I think this problem
is superkaramba related. I also found a bug report on bugs.kde.org:

[Bug 112957] wrong behaviour for separate screen focus in kwinfocus

2007-05-06 Thread JarFil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kwin

Kubuntu 7.04
kwin 3.5.6-0ubuntu20

Option separate screen focus works backwards. Disabling the dialog
checkbox enables the option, while enabling it disables the option.

Steps:
- open kwinfocus control module (kcmshell kwinfocus)
- tick separate screen focus
- click apply
- press alt+tab
- only windows from the active Xinerama screen are shown
- un-tick separate screen focus
- click apply
- press alt+tab
- windows from all Xinerama screens are shown

[Bug 112974] Beryl seems to become more unstable the more you use it, until it finally crashes

2007-05-06 Thread stevewadeca
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

Beryl has become more and more unstable each time I use it, until it
finally crashed the desktop. I worked fine the first couple of times ,

hopefully there will be a fix soon.

[Bug 112981] Sound card in use problem

2007-05-06 Thread naph
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kaffeine

If I try to start kaffeine to play a video when I'm already playing
sound with something like amarok, then the kaffeine window never appears
and i get no error messages. i then have to open the process table to
kill the process before stopping the sound and trying again.

reproduce:

1) play music with amarok
2) open a video file with kaffeine
3) kaffeine dissapears...

it's annoying that i can't play sound with more than one application at
once, but shouldn't kaffeine atleast show some kind of error if it can't
start playing the video?

thanks.

[Bug 112984] Odd folder or file names cause amarok to incorrectly log duplicate entires in the collection database

2007-05-06 Thread gabe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

Version: 1.4.5 using 3.5.6 (using KDE KDE 3.5.6)
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

Odd Folder and File Names cause Amarok to record multiple copies of items in
the database. Case in Point:
I have but one Copy of the 10,000 Maniacs unplugged album in my library. Amarok
lists three copies of each song in the 10,000 Maniacs directory. It does the
same thing with the Tool album 10,000 days. I suspect this is because of the
comma.

Here are some screenshots that entertain and delight.

1. This is the the Amarok collection and two of the three files with the 'edit
info' box present so you can see the path to the song file.
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/209/487608630_7072dbf037_o.png

2. This is the contents of the 10,000 Maniacs directory as visualized by
Firefox. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/168/487608632_6f376618fb_o.png

Note: Upon further inspection, I've discovered that it's with just about any
directory that has an 'unusual' character in it. Apostrophes, extra punctuation
all seem to make this happen.

 Importance: Undecided
