[Bug 827815] Re: Can't log into KDE, with error: Could not start D-bus, can you call qdbus?

2013-05-01 Thread Olof Staffans
I have recently updated to kubuntu 13.10 in 4 different computers, with
2 different partitions in each computer = 8 partitions. In two
instances out of 8 I encountered this problem. At least one of them was
a 64 bit installation.

The first case was a HP notebook, and a pre-release version of 13.10,
that I installed in early March. The first upgrade from 12.10 went OK,
but then a later update lead to this problem with the qdbus. At that
time I got rid of the problem by installing qt4-dev-tools, if I remember
right.

Today I encountered the same problem the second time in a 64 bit
installation. The distribution upgrade seemed to run normally, but when
I started up the coputer in the new version I got this "Could not start
D-Bus". This time I fixed it by running

sudo apt-get install qdbus

in tty1, which resulted in the installation of both qdbus and qtchooser
and the removal of the old qdbus:i386 and qtchooser:i386.

With the plastik window-deco the [?] button is replaces by some
horizontal space (like a seperator, if you configure the window-

kde 4.9.x.

I think the KDE 4.9 behaviour is more desirable.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use Plastik as kwin Style
2. Configure your buttons to include [?] (Help-Button)
3. Open a window with, and one without help-button
Actual Results:
too much space between the button before and the button after the help-button
on windows, where there is no help-button

Expected Results:
just no button at all.

At top you see the problem. At bottom everything is alright, because
this window has a help-button.

The horizontal space after the button / the horizontal space replacing
the button is intentional and configured by me. I wanted both window-
decoration to look like the lower one.

No idea whether the current behaviour was intended, but in general fixed
offsets are a good idea because they prevents you from actually having
to inspect the button to figure which it is on this window.

As an alternative i'd suggest a "disabled" look instead of a spacer
(keeping also the general look)

Ah, for the title/description: I tested it, the problem seems only to
happen with "Plastik" Decoration. Some decoration do not support the
help-button at all, others get it right.

I do not think a disabled look is appropriate, because the general
behaviour (for example on windows and other WMs) is to completely hide
the button, when its not available. This is useful, because most windows
do not have this button, and only some utility-windows do have it.

I rather meant keeping fixed positions in general.
Windows does not, but eg. OSX does (while i doubt there's a "what's this"
button, but unless there's only the close button, either the minimize or zoom
button will just be disabled)

As for the "what's this" and some other buttons, i'd strictly promote
the Bespin approach to stack them in one button and scroll through them
at (rare) demand ;-)

unfortuantely we do not track `regular` bugs like these. the fix lands
when the appropriate kde workspace version is pushed into kubuntu.

[Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()

2013-05-01 Thread mtvoid
@gunnarhj: Yes, I also tried it with both libqtwebkit4 2.2.1 and 2.3.0.
Whatever was causing the problem, seemed to be from the upgrade of some
other package when upgrading to raring. Investigating further with gdb,
I found this:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x08075f44 in malloc@plt ()
(gdb) bt
#0 0x08075f44 in malloc@plt ()
#1 0xb4f8a653 in g_malloc () from /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0

#6 0xb7fed2fc in ?? () from /lib/ld-linux.so.2
#7 0xb7fdf1df in ?? () from /lib/ld-linux.so.2

That indicated some issue with libglib2.0-0. I was using the latest
GNOME packages, including libglib 2.37.0 from the ricotz testing PPA. I
reverted it back to 2.36.0, and now Skype works again. The issue I was
facing was not related to libGL, and I have resolved it for now. But I
thought of pointing this out, because maybe Skype will still crash for
anybody running with a newer version of glib, irrespective of which
graphics driver they are running.

[Bug 1131636] Re: After QtWebkit update Skype is not launching

2013-05-01 Thread Stéphane
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1155327 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1155327

After updating my 64-bit install to raring, I get a segmentation fault
right when starting Skype.

I first solved the issue by downgrading libqtwebkit4 from 2.3.0 to 2.2.1:
libqtwebkit4_2.2.1-4ubuntu1_i386
libqtwebkit4_2.2.1-4ubuntu1_amd64

Today a new Skype package was released:
skype_4.1.0.20.0-0ubuntu0.13.04.2_amd64
skype-bin_4.1.0.20.0-0ubuntu0.13.04.2_i386

This new version of Skype does not crash anymore when used with the newest
libqtwebkit4 package (2.3.0):
libqtwebkit4_2.3.0-0ubuntu2_i386
libqtwebkit4_2.3.0-0ubuntu2_amd64

I didn't try the mesa related workarounds.

[Bug 1174689] Re: Nvidia/Dual screen - No Taskbar/Kdemenu on default install Kubuntu 13.04

2013-05-01 Thread yossarian_uk
** Description changed:

  On a new install I don't get a taskbar(panel) or kde menu - I only see
one panel with just activitives on it - i.e only half a desktop...

This has occurred on multiple machines (all with Nvidia cards and dual
  monitors)

- I have to add the panel manually or I don't have a taskbar/menu.
+ I have to add the panel manually or I don't have a taskbar/menu - you
+ have one panel with just the activity launcher.

This occurs before installing the nvidia binary driver.

It's happened on 3 different work stations (all dual monitor/nvidia)

[Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()

2013-05-01 Thread mtvoid
Echoing #71, I have Intel graphics, and since upgrading to 13.04, Skype
segfaults on startup. This fix, which apparently works for those with
Nvidia graphics drivers, is ineffective. Skype still crashes for me with
intel graphics.
