[Bug 1399855] Re: kwin_x11doesn't stop after logout

2014-12-05 Thread Mitch Golden
I note that the reverse situation does not result in the same problem.
If I log in and then log out, kwin_x11 does not hang. The main
difference between him and me is that I am a sudoer and he is not (he is
6 years old!) and I have configured my plasma (for example to use the
classic K menu) while his is more or less what is out of the box.

** Attachment added: "logged in as mgolden, there is a kwin_x11 still running
as user dario. (There is also one running as mgolden)"

[Bug 1399855] [NEW] kwin_x11doesn't stop after logout

2014-12-05 Thread Mitch Golden
Public bug reported:

I have a vintate 2001 System 76 Laptop. It is possibly of relevance that I
have an nvidia 560M graphics card and am running the
nvidia proprietary driver, legacy version 304. I have installed the 14.10
plasma 5 test DVD on it.

Both my son and I have accounts. Both of us are able to log in and use
the machine. However, if he uses it - and doesn't even have to do
anything - when he logs out the process kwin_x11 does not end. In fact,
after I log in, it continues to run and pegs one of the cores. It does
not die unless killed -9.

** Affects: kubuntu-ppa
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1362419] Re: screen freezes periodically

2014-12-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Lorange, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1362419

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1384512] Re: Plasma 5 frequent screen freezes

2014-12-05 Thread Rick Timmis
I can confirm that I have this same issue as well. I'm having a similar
experience to Peter

Quote: "It happens till a number of times when you just have to go to
tty1 and do a reboot"

Something that I have noticed is that when the desktop is idle, for a
while and then I come back to it it can be frozen. I also noticed that
using Google Hangouts, the video freezes, every 5 minutes, and Alt+Tab
is required to unfreeze.

My suspicion is that there might be something useful to be had by
adjusting the screen locking timeout, and testing this now to see if it
might help as a work around.

I should have some time next week, and if Libxext is still outstanding
or packaging I'll take a crack at it.
