[Bug 1575781] Re: Firefox 46 crashes on Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) with Oxygen-GTK3

2016-05-05 Thread Bernhard
I have the same problems with graphical artifacts like white bars in the
address search bar, in websites, when marking something, and the
mouseover-text is black on black background, the scrollbar shows black
artifacts.

There is also no space anymore between the text of the context menu, or the
bookmark window or the noscript menu .
That's why the menus are very small.
Furthermore the bookmark bar is pressed together, so the icons and text are
overlapping.
The form fields and buttons are very small for the text in general.

The "Save-As-"-Dialog has also problems with text not fitting in the form
fields.
The navigation through the folders-bar is also overlapping with the arrows and
text.

These problems are also in Kubuntu 14.04 , not only 12.04.

I installed the last working versions from website, but it makes no difference.
https://quickgit.kde.org/?p=oxygen-gtk.git

12.04:
oxygen-gtk2-1.4.6.tar.bz2
oxygen-gtk3-1.2.2.tar.bz2

14.04.
oxygen-gtk2-1.4.6.tar.bz2
oxygen-gtk3-1.4.1.tar.bz2

[Bug 1529450] Re: [master] AttributeError: 'PageKde' object has no attribute 'get_secureboot_key'

2016-04-13 Thread Bernhard
As user Johann Rohwer (j-m-rohwer) mentioned, with secure boot enabled,
I get the same error message at the installer, tested with Kubuntu daily
build from 2016-04-13.

How can I use secure boot, or is this not supported with Kubuntu?

2015-03-24 Thread Bernhard
Still no luck with the latest nvidia driver 346.47!

As soon as I use the driver nouveau, there is no problem, no high memory
usage of kwin/xorg processes or graphics memory.

Furthermore I have tested a fresh installation with Kubuntu 14.04.2
Install-DVD with a complete wipe-out of all partitions of the SSD , but
the problem occurs there too.

** Description changed:

  Hello,

since the Xorg/nvidia security updates last week, I encounter a problem with
growing Xorg and kwin memory usage.
In one hour the memory consumption is at Xorg ~ 270 MiB and at kwin: 300 MB ,
so the system responds slowly and scrolling is very slow in in dolphin, kwrite,
firefox, etc.
After several hours the system is so slow, that only a restart helps, and
then the growing of memory starts again.

[Bug 1421429] Re: [trusty] Frequently no clean shutdown or reboot

2015-02-21 Thread Bernhard
** Description changed:

  Hello,

on all of my installations of Kubuntu 14.04.x (3 PCs), frequently on a
shutdown or reboot the PC powers off or reboots without umounting the
  filesystems and terminating the processes.

There is no message like "Terminating or killing all processes within x
seconds, umounting filesystems, etc", but immediately the shutdown (power off)
or reboot of the system, all via KDE. => No clean shutdown.
  (No network shares are mounted.)

Next boot the fsck is recovering the filesystem/journal, etc

This behaviour occurred after the upgrade from 12.04.x to 14.04.x ,
  this was not in 12.04.

Maybe it is a bug in upstart/systemd init scripts at reboot/shutdown.
+
+ - Reproducible with:
+ Download the iso image kubuntu-14.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso and install it, for
instance as a Virtual Machine.
+
+ There logon in KDE and use the keyboard shortcut "ctl+alt+shift+pageup"
+ (=Reboot) to reboot the machine several times until you can see that on
+ the reboot/shutdown process there is no clean reboot, but an immediate
+ reboot.
+
+ On the next boot you will see that fsck is recovering the journal
+ (inodes cleared/recovered), etc.
+

  Thank you for your support!

[Bug 1309955] Re: kwalletd appears in the system monitor as "zombie"

2014-10-02 Thread Bernhard
Hi!

The problem is the package pam-kwallet.
You can uninstall it, then there is no zombie process anymore, but kwallet asks
for a password, when an application needs the credentials. So you have to type
your password twice.

[Bug 1328266] [NEW] kde package issues with trusty xstack in precise

2014-06-09 Thread Bernhard
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I've tested the trusty Xstack HWE xserver-xorg-lts-trusty;

KDE packages kde-workspace-dev libkwinactiveglesutils1 libkwinglesutils1
kde-config-touchpad are getting removed when installing the trusty
Xstack with the following command;

apt-get install -V libglapi-mesa-lts-trusty libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-trusty
xserver-xorg-lts-trusty xserver-xorg-input-all-lts-trusty xserver-xorg-
video-all-lts-trusty libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-trusty x11-xserver-utils-lts-
trusty libglapi-mesa-lts-trusty:i386 libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-trusty:i386
libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-trusty:i386

After the installation you can install the packages kde-workspace-dev
libkwinactiveglesutils1 libkwinglesutils again without problems.

But installing KDE package kde-config-touchpad leads to a removal of
packages xserver-xorg-input-all-lts-trusty xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-
lts-trusty.

Without kde-config-touchpad, the KDE touchpad configuration is broken.

Please help!

Thanks, Bernhard

[Bug 355870] [NEW] [jaunty] konsole getting slower

2009-04-05 Thread Bernhard Schmidt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: konsole

I'm running Kubuntu Jaunty. I'm doing most of my work in konsole, mostly
using tabs.

Ever since I upgraded from Intrepid I observe that konsole is getting
slower and slower after a few hours of work have passed. I can feel a
slight lag (only a few 100ms, but annoying as hell) when changing
between tabs or changing the screen content (changing into another
channel in irssi). Same when cat'ing a large textfile, it is fast and
smooth after login but gets pretty sluggish after a few hours.

It is probably not related to Bug #343714 since my memory consumption
appears to be normal, there is plenty of RAM free or used as disk cache,
also only a few MB of the swap is used.

Restarting konsole completely (I made sure no konsole process was left
running) doesn't help, logging out and in again does. So far I have
experienced the problem on three different machines, all running Jaunty

Dell Latitude D630, G965, EXA, Desktop Effects
Dell OptiPlex 760, Q45/43, UXA, Desktop Effects
self-made ASrock 780G-based (radeon-driver), EXA, no Desktop Effects

I think the OptiPlex got better after I switched to UXA, hard to tell.
Also I can't rule out that other KDE parts or the whole system are
affected, konsole is just what I'm using most, so I can compare the
performance there.

Systems are up to date.

[Bug 300194] [NEW] import feeds from firefox into akregator

2008-11-19 Thread Bernhard
Public bug reported:

There is a bug when I set akregator as default RSS reader and I want to
import feeds directly from firefox.

So say I have akregator installed and set it as default application for
RSS feeds in firefox. Then I can click on the RSS symbol in the location
bar and akregator will automatically import this feed. So far, so good.
But there is one problem: the imported URL is always wrong and for a
very simple reason, it looks something like

http:newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/

i.e. it's always http:... which cannot be right since it's 4 /'s. My
akregator version is 1.3.1 (KDE 4.1.2).

[Bug 182398] Re: Qt4 always prefers IPv4 over IPv6

2008-01-12 Thread Bernhard Schmidt
argh, the first sentence should end "did NOT do connections through IPv6
by default".

[Bug 182398] Qt4 always prefers IPv4 over IPv6

2008-01-12 Thread Bernhard Schmidt
Public bug reported:

I installed KDE4 on Hardy and Gutsy backports today and noticed that no
application (kget, konqueror, ktorrent 3.0beta1 compiled by myself) did
connections through IPv6 by default. After spending some time in IRC I
found out that Qt4 reorders the results of getaddrinfo() in
src/network/qhostinfo_unix.cpp around line 160 and always prefers IPv4.

I have asked around why this was the case and got a few answers that
don't really make sense

a) IPv6 causes problems for people with broken resolvers that time out/SERVFAIL
on queries
True, but the reordering does not fix this problem, as getaddrinfo() is called
with AF_UNSPEC nevertheless. Quite some work has gone into Ubuntu libc6 to
avoid queries at all if no global IPv6 address is configured, so this is
no cause in Ubuntu

b) The "old default" sorting (IPv6 before IPv4) loaded the module automatically
since it was trying to connect() to an AF_INET6 address first.
True, but not an issue in Ubuntu due to the changes in libc6. Also, all Ubuntu
boxes I had so far had IPv6 automatically loaded at boot. And the reordering
only delays the autoloading until you hit the first dualstack node that is down
and falls back to IPv6

c) Other issues might cause IPv6 to be considered usable when it is actually
broken, timing out on connects.
True, but one should fix the root cause, not a symptom. After all the Qt4
changes don't hit ssh, telnet, Mozilla applications, gnome applications and so
on. In fact, different behaviour might confuse people even more.

d) IPv6 is probably slower due to being tunneled
Erm, I don't know where some people live, but we have 10GE pipes with native
IPv6 here. And even if it was always slower, IPv6 is usually an opt-in game at
the moment.

The fix is easy, please change the addresses.prepend(addr) to
addresses.append(addr) in src/network/qhostinfo_unix.cpp:169. I've
reported the bug upstream at trolltech as well.
