[Bug 422174] Re: cannot connect to hidden ssid

2016-04-30 Thread Bruce Miller
Reading around the problem, I found that some wifi drivers don't seem
to run the KeyRing Authorization routine properly if a hidden SSID is
used. This leads to the authorization not getting saved.

This FIXED it for me: At the router, temporarily enable SSID broadcast.
Make a connection and Save. Test WiFi with Disconnect and Connect. Go
back to the router, re-disable broadcast and hide your router. Re-test,
your connection should still work. In theory ...

( For me, a Realtek 8187)

[Bug 636685] [NEW] job options in system-config-printer-kde are not stored

2010-09-12 Thread Bruce Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdeadmin

In Kubuntu 10.10 beta:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open |System Settings | Printer Configuration
2. Select a local printer
3. Open Job Options

5. Select apply and leave the settings dialog

Expected behaviour:
that the changed options would be applied and would be visible on the user's
return to this configuration dialog

Behaviour found:
the changed options are not applied. When one returns to the configuration
dialog, everything is back at the default (zero).

[Bug 636479] [NEW] keyboard shortcut in System Settings does not work in klipper

2010-09-12 Thread Bruce Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Ctrl-Alt-V has always been KDE's default keyboard shortcut to bring up
the list of clipboad entries maintained in klipper. It has worked
unfailingly in every version of KDE that I have used since roughly KDE
1.x in roughly 1999.

A recent problem with Kubuntu Lucid 10.04 has been that I often have to
enter Ctrl-Alt-V *_twice_* before the applet comes up.

I have not changed the keybinding in Kubuntu Maverick 10.10. The default
keybinding of Ctrl-Alt-V is listed as active in | System Settings |
Shortcuts and Gestures | Global Keyboard Shortcuts | Klipper .

The applet does not come up when I enter the keyboard shortcut. If I
mouse-click on the icon in the "system tray," it does come up. However,
I prefer to use a mouse as little as possible and always prefer keyboard
shortcuts.

If I attempt the Ctrl-Alt-V keyboard shortcut while KDE's focus is on a
konsole (terminal) session, the string "^[" (an escape character ???)
appears on the command line for each press of the shortcut.

Background: as a matter of laziness, I use one /home partition and one
~/.kde profile for all versions of kubuntu on my various machines. I
sometimes wonder if the one ~/.kde profile is "a bad thing." The Ctrl-
Alt-V shortcut works in every other Kubuntu Instance on several
machines. With the one reservation listed above on this, my most
powerful (and therefore most heavily-used) machine, I have never
experienced problems.

[Bug 501827] [NEW] Enabling keyboard layout switching disables Left arrow, Alt-F1 keys

2009-12-30 Thread Bruce Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Enabling keyboard layout switching disables the "regular" left arrow key
and the Alt-F1 shortcut (which calls the Kickoff application launcher).
Disabling keyboard layout switching fails to restore the expected
functions to these two keys.

By "regular left arrow", I refer to the "navigation" keypad between the
Enter key and the numberpad.

The only way that I have figured out to restore the function of these
two keys is to backup .kde and .kderc and reconfigure both from scratch.

I have observed this problem with KDE 4.2 (jaunty), KDE 4.3 (karmic) and
KDE 4.4beta (karmic with ppa, lucid).

My current keyboard is a wonderful 20+ year old Northgate OmniKey, which
has its own entry in the list of keyboard models under System Settings |
Personal | Regional & Language | Keyboard Layout. I have, however,
tested with numerous other keyboards on this machine, including several
modern generic 104-key keyboards. All have shown this same problem which
leads me to believe that this problem is with software on this machine
rather than with any specific hardware; on the other hand, however, my
other Ubuntu box, also with a Northgate keyboard does not show this
problem. I cannot test on that second box immediately because of a
recent catastrophic drive failure; the system awaits rebuilding.

[Bug 370876] Re: kopete: error removing yahoo contact

2009-07-20 Thread Bruce Miller
I have a problem which might be related:
Kopete shows two "rogue" entries in my list of Yahoo contacts. I have tried
many times to "remove" and "delete" them from within Kopete. They disappear for
the remainder of that session, but are restored whenever I restart Kopete.

When I log-in to the Yahoo! Messenger web client with Firefox, these two
rogue entries are not listed.

I have even tried hand-editing the contactlist.xml file, so far to no
avail.

[Bug 395968] [NEW] kwin intermittently fails to give focus to dialog box

2009-07-05 Thread Bruce Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-window-manager

To produce bug:
1. Ensure that compositing is turned on.
2. In an application, click to open a dialog box
3. before dialog box opens, click in main application.

Result: kwin does not give focus to the dialog but restricts it to the
main application window

Expected: that Alt-tab to scroll through windows will yield focus to the
dialog box

Work-around: temporarily disable compositing.

This is a common enough user error that the current behaviour is
annoying.

[Bug 395597] [NEW] KDE 4.3rc does not respect locales

2009-07-04 Thread Bruce Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Under System Settings| Region/Language, I added English UK, English USA
and French.

I set the order of languages so that UK is top, USA second, French
third. I left my country set to Canada.

I expected applications to continue to start with menus in English. All
KDE applications now load with French menus and dialogues instead.

Logging out of KDE and logging in again has not changed situation. Nor
has reloading System Setting| Region/Language and clicking on "restore
default."

I am running Kubuntu 9.10 Alpha 2, fully updated with KDE 4.3rc.

[Bug 29622] Re: Many web browsers not print the headers and footers.

2008-10-16 Thread Bruce Miller
I have changed the status back to New. Printing of KDE 4.x applications
has been totally broken across three distributions of Kubuntu (7.10,
8.04, 8.10 development) and on different hosts and after several re-
installations.

The problems experienced include, but are far from limited to, the lack
of headers and footers.

** Changed in: kdebase (Ubuntu)
   Status: Fix Released => New

I have written to Dell about the failure to return an EDID. This
might explain some other problems that I have been having with
the monitor.

[Bug 43276] Please include Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24-inch Wide Aspect Flat Panel LCD Monitor in hardware database

2006-05-09 Thread Bruce Miller
Public bug reported:

Affects: kde-guidance (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Wishlist
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Please include the Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24-inch Wide Aspect Flat
Panel LCD Monitor in the hardware database.

IIRC, and my memory may be wrong, this monitor was not detected by dpkg-
reconfigure xserver-xorg, but it could be chosen through KDE System
Settings graphical dialogs.
