[Bug 2067761] [NEW] Discover GUI will not load, although process loads. It can be made to work if passed to strace.
Public bug reported: For several days, I cannot use the Discover software app. (plasma- discover). Clicking the icon results in a brief animation on the icon, then nothing. Single or multiple attempts fail to load the screen, but they show up in System Monitor. If I use strace plasma-discover from console, then the entire Discover software does load! It works fine thereafter. But once closed, will not work again unless passed to strace again. Nothing significant that I can recall was done to cause this, and many other individuals online have the exact same problem. [Bug 1452313] [NEW] notifications don't go away
Public bug reported: When I get notifications, they remain, permanently, even after the event has been resolved. They persist through ending the session and beginning again, although not through a reboot. The example I have attached is a system update available notification, but earlier, I had different notifications. Hovering over them makes them transparent but doesn't reveal a way to remove. [Bug 1080701] Re: After 'Preparing to install Ubuntu' screen, raring installation hangs
Happens for me with both beta 2 and today's daily, on 2 out of 3 machines tested. All three systems are dual-boot and have plain old pc style extended partition tables. comment 88 suggested that turning off swap might work around the problem, but it didn't seem to for me :-( comments 88 and 121 suggested that mounting a partition might work around the problem. I can confirm this; on the first machine I tried, doing ctl-alt-f1 and 'sudo mkdir /media/foo; sudo mount /dev/sda5 /media/foo', then clicking Continue brought up a warning box Unmount partitions that are in use? Clicking 'No' on that dialog let me get to the Installation type dialog, and installation worked fine from there. Yay! Given that this affected 2 out of my 3 machines, this seems like a release blocker; not fixing it before release will probably result in widespread knowledge of this workaround and a few hits to Ubuntu's reputation. I'm happy to retest if there's progress. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to ubiquity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080701 Title: After 'Preparing to install Ubuntu' screen, raring installation hangs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1080701/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 272185] Re: [Intrepid] iwl3945 + iwlagn -- network-manager will not connect to a WPA EAP (Enterprise) network (disassociating by local choice (reason=3) )
First off - this bug is *not* invalid. Don't know why it is marked as such. At any rate I think I've got a simple solution. It's off the wall, but it works on a variety of chipsets (atheros, ipw2200...). ## WARNING: Following these instructions may break your Intrepid installation. They worked great for me on a variety of laptops, but your mileage may vary. Proceed at your own risk. ### The problem is with how wpa_supplicant and network manager interact. Updating the relevant packages to their jaunty equivalents fixes the problem. Here's the procedure: 0. Run a standard update to make sure you have all relevant Intrepid updates. 1. Add the jaunty repositories to /etc/apt/sources.list. Using your favorite text editor (ex. gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list), add the following lines (we will remove these when all is said and done.) # Jaunty Sources deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jaunty main restricted deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jaunty main restricted 2. Update your sources list by running the following command: sudo apt- get update ** A zillion new updates will show up. Do not run any automatic updaters! Doing so may break your installation. ** 3. Open the synaptic package manager (System -- Administration -- Synaptic Package Manager). Search for and upgrade the packages listed below: * wpasupplicant * libnm-glib0 * libnm-util0 * libxcb-render-util0 * network-manager * network-manager-gnome After you finish - Ubuntu will tell you to restart. Don't restart yet. 4. Go back and remove the lines from step one (1) from your /etc/apt/sources.list. Once the lines are removed -- save the file. After that, do another sudo apt-get update to remove the jaunty sources. Any automatic updaters should go back to normal and say that no updates are available. 5. Now restart your computer. It should all work after that. You may have to delete your existing (broken) associations in order for it to work right. Tested to work on several atheros chipsets and several Intel chipsets. Special thanks to the College of William and Mary for providing the test equipment. I hope it works out for you! [Bug 285172] Re: kdm postinst fails when /etc/X11/default-display-manager is 0 byte file
This happened to me with kdm4 (4:4.1.2-0ubuntu13), when my /etc/X11 /default-display-manager file was 1 line, with the following text: #/usr/bin/kdm So, it's not just 0 byte files; also files that begin with #, which I imagine is a pretty normal way for people to turn off the display manager when they don't want it to start automatically. [Bug 55585] Re: Amarok hangs when holding down of next/previous track hotkey
I'm on Kubuntu/Gutsy with a Feisty kernel, Inspiron 1521. I don't notice the exact same behavior, but sometimes my keyboard locks up completely. ctrl-alt-delete does nothing, nor caps lock, nor any key, nor keys typed in with the mouse using kvkbd. Kino is not able to use video1394, and usage of video1394 for DV is deprecated. The best solution at the moment is to create a new group for raw1394. [Bug 27563] Dapper current kernel won't start on 3800+ X2 processor
I'm having a similar problem on my system. Until recently I could force it to work by using 'acpi=off noapic nolapic', but now it will only boot if I unplug all my usb devices, then plug them back in once the kernel has finished booting. Otherwise it will lock up on the 'io scheduler cfq registered'. There's definately been a weird problem with usb in the past few releases of the kernel but now it is even worse. System is an AMD 3800+ X2, ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe (nforce4), root installed on a SATA2 drive, usb devices are a Logitech Cordless Desktop S510, a Logitech G7 mouse, a Dell 2405FPW monitor (has a CF/SD/etc reader), and a Logitech Fusion webcamera plugged into the monitor's usb hub as well. [Bug 35744] Dapper, flight 5: works, then stops
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35744 Affects: kdenetwork kwifimanager (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: On a Toshiba M55-S3314, the wireless card isn't configurable during install; it's an Integrated Intel Pro/Wireless Network Connection 2200BG(802.11b/g). Once up and running, it can be selected, WEP pass put in, and it will work off-and-on. It will often just drop the connection, and the only way to make it work again is to reboot. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
