[Bug 2067761] [NEW] Discover GUI will not load, although process loads. It can be made to work if passed to strace.

2024-05-31 Thread Dan Taller
Public bug reported:

For several days, I cannot use the Discover software app. (plasma-
discover). Clicking the icon results in a brief animation on the icon,
then nothing. Single or multiple attempts fail to load the screen, but
they show up in System Monitor.

If I use strace plasma-discover from console, then the entire Discover
software does load! It works fine thereafter. But once closed, will not
work again unless passed to strace again.

Nothing significant that I can recall was done to cause this, and many
other individuals online have the exact same problem.

[Bug 470695] Re: Kgpg doesn't run by default

2016-05-19 Thread Dan Dart
Still getting the same bug 6 years later. I have kmail and kgpg
installed. Also this is the wrong link, as that's a different bug it
seems.

Any idea?
Cheers

[Bug 1506550] Re: quassel can't play audio notifications in wily

2015-12-08 Thread Dan Streetman
Yes, the default sounds are from the kde-runtime-data package. You can
also select sounds from the oxygen-sounds package, they're in the same
directory (/usr/share/sounds/) and have similar names. In quassel
configuration under Notifications it lets you choose the sound file for
each event.

I'm not sure if the quassel package should require the kde-runtime-data
package, as it will still work without it if the sounds are changed...

[Bug 1452313] Re: notifications don't go away

2015-06-20 Thread Dan Keshet
This could be a total red herring, but I've been experiencing this
mostly after I have plugged an external monitor in to my laptop (in
side-by-side mode) and then removed that external monitor.

[Bug 1452313] [NEW] notifications don't go away

2015-05-06 Thread Dan Keshet
Public bug reported:

When I get notifications, they remain, permanently, even after the event
has been resolved. They persist through ending the session and
beginning again, although not through a reboot. The example I have
attached is a system update available notification, but earlier, I had
different notifications. Hovering over them makes them transparent but
doesn't reveal a way to remove. The notification menu in the system
tray says there are notifications.

2014-03-28 Thread Dan-cer
Correction: First an error-message about krita appeared. Secondly I deinstalled
Krita. Thirdly a new message came up and went into this bug-report.
So the error began with an installed krita, not an uninstalled one.

[Bug 1080701] Re: After 'Preparing to install Ubuntu' screen, raring installation hangs

2013-04-22 Thread Dan Kegel
Hey, I found a deadlock.
In my current hang, strace shows that parted_server is blocking on
  open(/var/lib/partman/outfifo, O_RDONLY)
and /lib/partman/automatically_partition/15reuse/choices is blocking on
  open(/var/lib/partman/stopfifo, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0666

Methinks the protocol is a little racy...

[Bug 1080701] Re: After 'Preparing to install Ubuntu' screen, raring installation hangs

2013-04-21 Thread Dan Kegel
Happens for me with both beta 2 and today's daily, on 2 out of 3 machines
tested.
All three systems are dual-boot and have plain old pc style extended partition
tables.

comment 88 suggested that turning off swap might work around the
problem, but it didn't seem to for me :-(

comments 88 and 121 suggested that mounting a partition might work around the
problem.  I can confirm this;
on the first machine I tried, doing ctl-alt-f1 and 'sudo mkdir /media/foo; sudo
mount /dev/sda5 /media/foo',
then clicking Continue brought up a warning box
Unmount partitions that are in use?
Clicking 'No' on that dialog let me get to the Installation type dialog, and
installation worked fine from there. Yay!

Given that this affected 2 out of my 3 machines, this seems like a release
blocker; not fixing it before release
will probably result in widespread knowledge of this workaround and a few hits
to Ubuntu's reputation.

I'm happy to retest if there's progress.

[Bug 591697] [NEW] Network totals overflow at 4GB in 32-bit System Monitor

2010-06-09 Thread Dan Zuras
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libplasma-applet-system-monitor4

This is of low importance. A minor annoyance at worst.

For the 32-bit release of 10.04 only, in the System Monitor, in the
libplasma-applet-system-monitor4 package.

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

apt-cache policy libplasma-applet-system-monitor4
libplasma-applet-system-monitor4:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 4:4.4.2-0ubuntu14
  Version table:
 4:4.4.2-0ubuntu14 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages

When using the System Monitor to watch the download of a large amount of
data, I notice that the 'Total Received' field overflows every 4GB or
so. As this happens in the 32-bit release not the 64-bit release, it
looks like a 32-bit unsigned overflow to me. Chances are it happens in
other fields as well. It is of low importance. It just annoyed me. -

[Bug 272185] Re: [Intrepid] iwl3945 + iwlagn -- network-manager will not connect to a WPA EAP (Enterprise) network (disassociating by local choice (reason=3) )

2009-01-08 Thread Dan Bracey
First off - this bug is *not* invalid. Don't know why it is marked as
such. At any rate I think I've got a simple solution. It's off the wall,
but it works on a variety of chipsets (atheros, ipw2200...).

## WARNING: Following these instructions may break your Intrepid
installation. They worked great for me on a variety of laptops, but your
mileage may vary. Proceed at your own risk. ###

The problem is with how wpa_supplicant and network manager interact.
Updating the relevant packages to their jaunty equivalents fixes the
problem. Here's the procedure:

0. Run a standard update to make sure you have all relevant Intrepid
updates.

1. Add the jaunty repositories to /etc/apt/sources.list. Using your favorite
text editor (ex. gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list), add the following lines
(we will remove these when all is said and done.)
# Jaunty Sources
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jaunty main restricted
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jaunty main restricted

2. Update your sources list by running the following command: sudo apt-
get update

** A zillion new updates will show up. Do not run any automatic
updaters! Doing so may break your installation. **

3. Open the synaptic package manager (System -- Administration -- Synaptic
Package Manager). Search for and upgrade the packages listed below:
* wpasupplicant
* libnm-glib0
* libnm-util0
* libxcb-render-util0
* network-manager
* network-manager-gnome

After you finish - Ubuntu will tell you to restart. Don't restart yet.

4. Go back and remove the lines from step one (1) from your
/etc/apt/sources.list. Once the lines are removed -- save the file.
After that, do another sudo apt-get update to remove the jaunty sources.
Any automatic updaters should go back to normal and say that no updates
are available.

5. Now restart your computer. It should all work after that. You may
have to delete your existing (broken) associations in order for it to
work right.

Tested to work on several atheros chipsets and several Intel chipsets.
Special thanks to the College of William and Mary for providing the test
equipment.

I hope it works out for you!

Dan

[Bug 285172] Re: kdm postinst fails when /etc/X11/default-display-manager is 0 byte file

2008-11-28 Thread Dan Keshet
This happened to me with kdm4 (4:4.1.2-0ubuntu13), when my /etc/X11
/default-display-manager file was 1 line, with the following text:

#/usr/bin/kdm

So, it's not just 0 byte files; also files that begin with #, which I
imagine is a pretty normal way for people to turn off the display
manager when they don't want it to start automatically.

Removing the default-display-manager file let me finish the installation
correctly, of course.

[Bug 303344] [NEW] details pane shows installed files for previously viewed package when viewing uninstalled package

2008-11-28 Thread Dan Keshet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept

When you view an installed package in the details pane, it shows the
installed files. If you then go back, and view more details about an
uninstalled package, the installed files widget on the details pane
still shows the installed files for the previously viewed, installed
package.

This is in adept manager, v.2.1.3ubuntu17 0, kubuntu v. 8.10.

This bug could be superseded entirely by bug 82428, which proposes
getting rid of the installed files widget for uninstalled packages.

[Bug 55585] Re: Amarok hangs when holding down of next/previous track hotkey

2008-01-13 Thread Dan Keshet
I'm on Kubuntu/Gutsy with a Feisty kernel, Inspiron 1521. I don't
notice the exact same behavior, but sometimes my keyboard locks up
completely. ctrl-alt-delete does nothing, nor caps lock, nor any key,
nor keys typed in with the mouse using kvkbd. Unloading and reloading
the i8042 module doesn't bring the keyboard back. The only way I can
get new text to appear in any application is by copying and pasting
characters already shown on the screen. The keyboard comes back
completely after killing amarok.

[Bug 6290] Re: [Bug 6290] Re: [Bug 6290] Re: use /dev/video1394, not /dev/raw1394

2006-05-27 Thread Dan Dennedy
Kino is not able to use video1394, and usage of video1394 for DV is
deprecated. The best solution at the moment is to create a new group for
raw1394.

On Thursday 25 May 2006 07:04, preciousp wrote:
Hope you don´t mind me asking but could you guide me (and others) on what
 to do.
 Is it.
 1. Low risk - leave raw1394 as disk and don´t allow kino to access raw1394
 to control camcorder
 2. add user to the ¨disk¨ group - is this v.bad?
 3. change raw1394 to video group - no no no ¨

I´m assuming that acually 2. is worse than 3 as your giving yourself access
to raw1394 plus other areas too. In which case 3 would be an option.

Am I correct in assuming that everyone should go with option 1?

I want to put a section on video editing on the wiki and I want to get this
 right.

On 5/25/06, Scott James Remnant [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
I had a pretty good chat with Jody McIntyre back in Montreal about the

a USB-alike device node for each interface on each device is the right

  or per-device level.

[Bug 6290] Re: [Bug 6290] Re: use /dev/video1394, not /dev/raw1394

Can Ubuntu consider using dv1394/0 rather than dv1394-0 per the
convention attempting to be established at
http://www.linux1394.org/faq.php#udev ? That FAQ item has existed for some
time. Next kino version changes its default dv1394 device to /dev/dv1394/0
(currently using a legacy devfs name). With dv1394-0, new Kino users will
have a broken configuration out of the box. Now, if I change Kino to use
dv1394-0, then it will be broken by default for other distros.

[Bug 27563] Dapper current kernel won't start on 3800+ X2 processor

2006-05-13 Thread Dan Peori
I'm having a similar problem on my system. Until recently I could force
it to work by using 'acpi=off noapic nolapic', but now it will only boot
if I unplug all my usb devices, then plug them back in once the kernel
has finished booting. Otherwise it will lock up on the 'io scheduler cfq
registered'. There's definately been a weird problem with usb in the
past few releases of the kernel but now it is even worse.

System is an AMD 3800+ X2, ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe (nforce4), root
installed on a SATA2 drive, usb devices are a Logitech Cordless Desktop
S510, a Logitech G7 mouse, a Dell 2405FPW monitor (has a CF/SD/etc
reader), and a Logitech Fusion webcamera plugged into the monitor's usb
hub as well.

Original install was from a beta2 textmode cd and has been dist-upgraded
to current.

Snippet of dmesg WITHOUT USB DEVICES PLUGGED IN follows this post. I
have no way to capture the dmesg of the kernel when it doesn't boot.

[Bug 35744] Re: [Bug 35744] Re: Dapper, flight 5: works, then stops

2006-05-05 Thread Dan
Hi Barry,

I just installed Dapper Beta 2 on my machine. I've not had a chance yet
to work with the wireless. I'm running Gnome almost exclusively now.

Even though I haven't had time to get the wireless configured, it *does*
see everything, so I'll work with it over the next few days and let you
guys know. In the meantime, if you want to see any of the boot logs or
anything to check configurations, etc., I'll be happy to pull them off
for you

Thanks,
Dan

This sounds like it could be more of a driver issue. Do you run Gnome
at all or can you configure it from the command line and everything
works OK? Thank you.

[Bug 41926] Software suspend is no longer located in /proc/software_suspend

2006-04-28 Thread Dan
Public bug reported:

Affects: kdeutils klaptopdaemon (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
klaptopdaemon has /proc/software_suspend hardcoded when checking to see
if a system has suspend2 enabled, this has changed to /proc/suspend2 in
recent versions of suspend2. As a result, even though I have
/usr/sbin/hibernate on my system (which it also checks for), it fails to
detect suspend2. Suspend2 if often the only choice for hibernation for
those of us where acpi methods fail (like my sony VGN-T350P)

This should be changed to confirmed, I also have this on the latest
dapper code (4/25/06), where it has worked fine in breezy 3.5.1.

[Bug 35744] Dapper, flight 5: works, then stops

2006-03-20 Thread Dan
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35744

Affects: kdenetwork kwifimanager (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
On a Toshiba M55-S3314, the wireless card isn't configurable during
install; it's an Integrated Intel Pro/Wireless Network Connection
2200BG(802.11b/g). Once up and running, it can be selected, WEP pass
put in, and it will work off-and-on. It will often just drop the
connection, and the only way to make it work again is to reboot.
