[Bug 1988819] Re: When apt keeps back packages due to phased updates, it should list them separately
Not sure who all the upstream(s) involved might be, but from my personal PoV at least you can add all the options you like… the topic gets harder if we talk defaults & changing (e.g.) the lists completely (like that tabular verbose-explosion thingy from apk or whatever it was). At some point it might make sense to extended apt-patterns so that current (and future) lists can be expressed in them and then add some more options to format those lists/tables/… at which point we could have different templates and so options/choices galore. I think aptitude has formatting to some extend of its lists. One of my first apt patches that was never merged was actually about reordering/coloring the lists… that failed, so I am very positive that a much bigger yak will be shaved more easily and faster many years later. ;) Precedence of the initial ask is 'can be autoremoved' btw, which is not displayed, displays a full list, an even fuller list in version mode or displays a single line with how many packages could be autoremoved depending on config. P.S.: On a multi-arch system nearly every Depends is a choice even without or-groups: given that you e.g. pick banana:amd64 or banana:i386 for an M-A:foreign banana. And the t64 transition added a quadrillion of real vs. virtual bananas at least until everyone depends on bananat64. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1988819 Title: When apt keeps back packages due to phased updates, it should list them separately To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1988819/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1967659] Re: Qt apps broken on nVidia/Wayland (Event thread blocked)
Thanks for the response. Hopefully just having this bug reported so that there's some search result for "ubuntu plasma wayland nvidia bug" or similar will make things easier. My concern re: the gnome session was that — as I understand it — this should affect any applications which are written against Qt Quick, and while I don't think Gnome includes any by default, it's still possible that people will see regressions running such applications under Gnome. (Though I agree that this is obviously not as critical as the whole DE being broken.) In any case, hopefully this will act as the appropriate gentle nudge to encourage Debian/Ubuntu to switch to the KDE-maintained Qt branch or otherwise find a way get these sorts of fixes in sooner. :-) (Alas, I've had to move my nVidia/Wayland experiments over to openSUSE, which is a bit more usable on the bleeding edge at the moment.) [Bug 1851573] Re: configuration file //.config/debconf-kde-helperrc not writable
Hmmm, at a loss. Created 2 VMs, one as control but with a root access user, the other standard but using sudo - E to install kde. Both gave the same error when attempting to install anything from the software manager (strangely, synaptic is never an issue). Thought it was XDG_CONFIG_HOME as it wasn't set for some reason - set it - no change, although when queried (echo XDG_CONFIG_HOME) it shows correctly after being set. When file is manually created at /.config/defconf-kde-helperrc and permissions are set, the error is gone (no need for logoff). I do notice that installations seem to "pause" now, although maybe that's just in my head. Seems resolved after setting owner and group the same (username for both). Of note - issue doesn't occur until kde is started. Can install kde but as long as the plasma desktop isn't started, no error. Once the plasma desktop is used, will get error on any display manager. Anyway - I'm done. Fixed with /.config/debconf-kde-helperrc file creation and permissions setting. I'm a rank amateur with this - think we are on the right track but it'll likely take someone else to find an elegant solution or heck...a patch for the program? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kde-runtime in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1851573 Title: configuration file //.config/debconf-kde-helperrc not writable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kde-runtime/+bug/1851573/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

It's nowhere near optimal, but it shows that the > > information is (was) there. > In fact, what you describe is the *lack* of this feature: I wanted to point out three things in my comment, but apparently managed to mix them up. 1. Yes, what I described is the lack of the feature in the Gnome / Cinnamon ecosystem as a whole. However, at least some applications (and key applications like Terminal, Synaptic, etc.) do it, which makes it a much more acceptable experience than in KDE (speaking from memory here, but the issue is still open, so...) 2. The fact that some applications do it means it is possible, and was possible even with X11. 3. While this issue was opened against KWin, we users don't care where the solution will land. [Bug 1702176] [NEW] Regression in keyboard shortcut to switch keyboard layout
Public bug reported: I use the 'Keyboard' section in the Kubuntu System Settings to set my shortcut for switching keyboard layouts to the (pre-defined) setting "Left Ctrl+Left Shift". Up until Kubuntu 16.10 the behavior of this shortcut was as follows: When pressing both the left control and left shift key together and then releasing them again without pressing any other keys the keyboard layout would switch when the keys were released. If, while control and shift were pressed any other key was pressed, the keyboard would not switch, but the corresponding key combination would be handled by the active window. This is the expected, and in my opinion correct behavior. Since Kubuntu 17.04 this behavior has changed: Now, the keyboard layout is switched as soon as I press the second one of the control and shift key down, before I even release them. This makes it impossible to use any key combo that includes the left shift and left control keys. If I press another key while control and shift are still depressed, it will register a key press in the switched layout, plus only the modifier key I switched first. The behavior is the same on a fresh installation and on a system upgraded from Kubuntu 16.10. Add the comic applet to your desktop. 2. Load The Order of the Stick. 3. Display the most recent comic. 4. Click the previous-comic button. 5. Click the next-comic button. FWIW the work around for this bug ended up being: * accept the guided encrypted+lvm layout * do normal install * boot off usb disk * shrink ext4 + LV * create new LV + FS I wanted (btrfs) * "rsync -PavH --delete .../old/ .../new/" * edit fstab * delete old fs/LV * resize new LV + btrfs reboot The workaround for 1510730 is simply not to edit the crypto partition a second time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to ubiquity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1510731 Title: Can't use crypto in manual disk setup Kubuntu 15.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1510731/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1510731] [NEW] Can't use crypto in manual disk setup Kubuntu 15.10
Public bug reported: Selecting "Manual" under disk setup if I add a "/boot" and then create the next partition as "physical volume for encryption" I'm then given no way to use that volume (i.e formatting and setting up the passphrase so I can put LVM or FS on it). See crypto-no-usable-options.png. [Bug 855473]
Git commit 75da8e8129f6bc152a781ff47fb8e741c65b584e by David Faure. Committed on 29/11/2012 at 17:49. Pushed by dfaure into branch 'KDE/4.9'. Fix KDirLister forgetting to watch a directory after listing it from the cache. Many many thanks to Frank Reininghaus for the unittest that finally made this issue reproduceable, based on feedback from users in the bug report. The issue: whether to watch a directory with KDirWatch is refcounted. Each lister showing the dir counts as one, the cache itself can add one, and does so initially. If a dir is modified while it's only in the cache, we mark it as dirty, stop watching, and we'll simply update the directory when showing it to the user again later. At that point we need to start watching it again. The old code would do decr+incr, I "optimized" this in 7b9cafaaf6af (oct 2010) to fix the bug that (with an initial refcount of 1), decr would lead to 0 temporarily. However if the item wasn't watched anymore (initial refcount of 0), the decr would do nothing (if (c<0) c=0), and the incr would start the watching. With 7b9cafaaf6af this all went away (I thought decr+incr==noop), so no watching. The proper solution is obviously incr+decr_if_not_done_before_already (when the cache stops watching the dir because a change happened). [Bug 1069183] Re: LightDM KDE Greeter loads the desktop half a minute after login
That should be everything I need to test this. I suspect a one line change (to turn off smooth scaling on the background image) will fix everything. I now have the images and can test. Alternately I could maybe cache a scaled png version. I'll see how well this first fix works. Actually when I first went through benchmarking LightDM having a JPEG background (1920x1280) caused the processor to spend as much time decoding the JPEG as it did doing everything else. (JPEG can have up to ~6000 CPU calculations for each block of 8x8 pixels. My day-job is about image compression, I could go on for hours) . It'l be slowing down your load time too. Thanks again for the extensive investigation. [Bug 1067667] Re: Last logged in user is not selected
LightDM-KDE should be doing this. Last user is saved/restored from a log file. Please run "sudo cat /var/lib/lightdm/.kde/share/config/state-kde" and paste output here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to lightdm-kde in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1067667 Title: Last logged in user is not selected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm-kde/+bug/1067667/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1069183] Re: LightDM KDE Greeter loads the desktop half a minute after login
Thanks for all the detailed logs. There's definitely something weird going on. Between auth complete and login the following happens: - There's an animation - We take a snapshot of the screen, and run an app to set the X root background image - We start the session The delay is almost certainly something going wrong in this second stage. It's a bit of a hack that all display managers do to solve a black flicker between login and ksplash starting. I don't see how the choice of background could make a difference as it's sending a screenshot of the screen to lightdm-kde-greeter-rootimage, I don't see how what's in the image could make a difference. Could you set the background image again, and see if it's reproducible? Do you get the delay with a different background file? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to lightdm-kde in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069183 Title: LightDM KDE Greeter loads the desktop half a minute after login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/1069183/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
