[Bug 1988819] Re: When apt keeps back packages due to phased updates, it should list them separately

2023-04-08 Thread Nathan Collins
My vote is to remove this "phased updates" feature until the UI can be
fixed. Right now I run `apt update` and it tells me "N packages can be
upgraded", then I run `apt upgrade` and it tells me no packages will be
upgraded because "N packages are held back". There is no mention of
"phased updates". Very confused, wasting my time on this after upgrading
to 22.04. Have been using Ubuntu since 2005 and found this very
confusing.

[Bug 1980960] Re: Merge calligra 3.2.1+dfsg-6 from Debian unstable

2022-07-07 Thread Nathan Teodosio
** Description changed:

- Merge calligra 3.2.1+dfsg-6 (current in Kinetic is
- calligra_3.2.1+dfsg-5ubuntu2).
+ The delta between 3.2.1+dfsg-5 and 1:3.2.1+dfsg-5ubuntu2 was introduced
+ by LP: #1980373 to address compatibility with a new Poppler version and
+ it consisted in
+
+ * adding libpoppler-qt5-dev as a build dependency; and
+
+ * Fixing API calls to Poppler by means of upstream_Fix-compile-with-
+ poppler-22-06.patch.
+
+ In 3.2.1+dfsg-6,
+
+ * the build-depend has been added to the control file; and
+
+ * the patch upstream_Fix-compile-with-poppler-22-06.patch was split into
+ the two patches upstream_PdfImport-Fix-compile-with-newer-
+ poppler{,_2}.patch.
+
+ Therefore the Ubuntu changes can be overridden.
+
+ I confirmed with sbuild that 3.2.1+dfsg-6 builds successfully in
+ Kinetic.

[Bug 1980373] Re: Fix build for Poppler 22.06

2022-06-30 Thread Nathan Teodosio
It was missing libpoppler-qt5-dev in build-deps. Builds successfully in
Sbuild.

While I was at it, I also added headers to the patch so now it is a
proper patch instead of a plain diff.

[Bug 1569357] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 - Unity desktop session broken when using non-LightDM as X Display Manager

2016-09-18 Thread Nathan Adams
I am not entirely sure what corrected the problem, but here are all of
the steps I performed:

sudo apt-get install lightdm
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
sudo systemctl enable lightdm.service
sudo reboot

rm -rf .cache/compizconfig-1
rm -rf .compiz
rm -rf .Xauthority
rm -rf .config/autostart
dconf reset -f /org/compiz
setsid unity

At this point, Unity sprang to life for me.

But to make the process easier for those that want to try, here they are

[Bug 1325801] Re: failed to boot from USB disk with error: gfxboot.c32: not a COM32R Image boot:

2016-08-11 Thread Nathan Dorfman
I had this problem with the 16.04.1 desktop amd64 stick I made on my
14.04 system, but I just had to enter "live" at the prompt to boot into
the live desktop and install as normal.

After doing that and booting into the new live system, it was also easy
to "fix" the USB stick permanently with the new syslinux available
therein, as detailed here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/486602/ubuntu-14-04-lts-live-usb-boot-
error-gfxboot-c32not-a-valid-com32r-image/746412#746412

As for the newer version of creator included with 16.04, its behavior
was rather unexpected. Instead of copying files into the existing
filesystem and installing syslinux nondestructively, it seems to simply
write a raw binary image over the first 1.5GB of the disk. It warned me
and all, but I didn't see any other option.

It didn't have the COM32R error at boot, but I personally feel the
destructive copying is much worse. Did I mess something up, or is that
the intended behavior now?

I have a problem when I bypass knetworkmanager using a script to call
WPA_supplicant and dhclient so I can connect to a secured network that
knetwork doesn't support the settings for, my system will think it's off
line. well any programs that depend on
knetworkmananger's little flag that states that I'm online, don't think
I'm online because knetworkmanager doen't think I'm online. Their should
be some way of ketworkmanager detecting incoming connections and
determine if the connection is live then report the system as bing
online. At least this way, any programs depend on knetworkmanagers
online connection flag will see that knetworkmanager is online and
function normally.

[Bug 252581] [NEW] Problem with Kontact when bypassing knetworkmanager

2008-07-28 Thread Nathan Flowers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

As far as I understand Kontact has an off line mode like Firefox. I use a
script to connect to my secured wireless network using the script makes
knetworkmanager think that I'm not connected to any wireless networks. when I
use Firefox I always have to switch from off line mode to online mode. My
investigation in to the mater shows that I can use Kontact on my home wireless
(using knetworkmanager to connect) and send and receive email just fine. It's
only when I use my script to connect to my secured wireless network that the
problem occurs, scene I'm bypassing knetworkmanager, some of my applications
think that I'm not actually online. Is their a setting that I can set in
Kontact so it will act as tho I'm online and try to communicate any way.. Like
Firefox has an offline mode you can set to online?
