I have the same issue (using regular Ubuntu 20.04.3 w. KDE and XFCE

Using a workaround stops xfce4-notifyd from starting here:

ln -s /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.kde.plasma.Notifications.service \

[Bug 1874441] [NEW] Move appdata.xml file to main package

The file /usr/share/metainfo/org.kde.kdenlive.appdata.xml is in the

[Bug 1628924] [NEW] On the fly spell checking does not work properly

2016-09-29 Thread Peter
Public bug reported:

When activating on the fly spell checking, not all misspelled words are
highlighted. Also in newly entered text, misspelled words are sometimes
not highlighted. This behaviour is not really reproducible.

When "adding words to dictionary" via the context menu, this addition seems not
permanent: When disabling and re-enabling on the fly spell-checking, those
words are, again, highlighted. The context menu for spell-checking then offers
the VERY SAME SPELLING as correction proposal.
After restarting Kate, added words are permanently lost. This behaviour is
reproducible.

[Bug 1582007] [NEW] sddm disables keyboard

2016-05-15 Thread Peter L Jones
Public bug reported:

I installed xenial a server initially then added Kubuntu desktop.

Initally, /usr/bin/X was missing - see bug 1563048.

Now sddm starts X okay but the keyboard stops working -- I cannot Ctrl-
Alt-F1 out of the login screen, tab doesn't let me move to another
field, there is not mousepad response (no pointer is displayed).

If I stop sddm, X gets stopped. Without X running, I can then switch to
another terminal.

However, the keyboard LEDs are not working (I do not remember for
certain if they were working but I'm pretty sure they were).

[Bug 1563048] Re: Kubuntu login screen not displayed

2016-05-15 Thread Peter L Jones
@mike-petersen-web - yes, in my case, it's definitely a dependency
issue. I installed 16.04 server and then added Kubuntu Desktop. Whilst
that installed sddm and its service, sddm didn't have any dependency on
xserver-xorg-core, directly or indirectly (which it really should have,
as it's an X display manager and runs /usr/bin/X :) ).

And just to be certain:

[Bug 1465866] Re: Can't terminate session after a while

2016-01-19 Thread Peter Hewett
The driver manager in system settings offers 3 graphics drivers;
- nvidia 352 (recommended)
- nvidia 352-updates
- x.org nouveau display driver

I have tried with all three drivers (with a reboot between changes) and the
freeze-on-shutdown symptoms occur with each of the nvidia drivers, but not (so
far) with the x.org driver.
Of course, the x.org driver struggles a bit to run my dual monitor setup, but
at least it is good to know that I can properly shutdown the system when I want
to.

[Bug 1258422]

2015-12-21 Thread Peter Hoeg
For me, this bug only triggers when the panel is placed between the
monitors. If I move it from the right side of the left screen to the
left side of left screen everything is OK. Same thing applies to the
right monitor in the inverse.

This is supposedly a limitation in X that requires panels to be flush
against an absolute edge.

[Bug 1451728] Re: kde-config-telepathy-accounts package install error

2015-05-11 Thread Peter Chibunna
I did this just to get apt-get to work again, since I need to install
other things.

`sudo apt-get update` then
`sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite
/var/cache/apt/archives/kde-config-telepathy-accounts_15.04.0-0ubuntu1~ubuntu15.04~ppa1_amd64.deb`

I don't know the long-term effects but since I'm can do without
telepathy at the moment, I allowed the overwrite because it seems that
the new provider file is from and for kde and not the standard sso.

[Bug 941826] Re: PyQt cannot compile shaders with Ubuntu's Nvidia drivers

2014-08-12 Thread Peter Würtz
The first entry of "libGL.so" in "ldconfig -p" points to
"/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so", which is a symlink to the mesa
driver. After deleting that link pyqt works fine as expected. That
symlink belongs to the "libgl1-mesa-dev" package and seems to overrule
the libGL.so entries in ldconfig for the nvidia driver.

** Also affects: mesa (Ubuntu)

[Bug 941826] Re: PyQt cannot compile shaders with Ubuntu's Nvidia drivers

2014-08-12 Thread Peter Würtz
Ok, I think I found the problem.

Apparently the PyQt application ends up loading the Mesa GL library
(/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1.2.0) instead of the NVidia
driver (/usr/lib/nvidia-331/libGL.so.331.38) that is loaded when
importing PyOpenGL first.

The difference seems to be the library name when calling dlopen().
PyOpenGL tries to import "libGL.so.1", whereas PyQt imports "libGL.so",
without the ".1" suffix.

A simple C application calling dlopen() and checking /proc//maps
shows that "libGL.so" points to the Mesa driver, whereas "libGL.so.1"
ends up loading the NVidia driver.

So this is a bug in Ubuntu's NVidia package I assume?

Please also have a look at my example and workaround in #10. As
described in #5, the problem seems to be an error when python
dynamically loads the required opengl libraries. Unfortunately we still
don't know what exactly goes wrong and why it only affects python qt
bindings loading the ubuntu-packaged nvidia driver.

[Bug 941826] Re: OpenGL backend not working with Nvidia driver package

2014-01-09 Thread Peter Würtz
Workaround:
The shader creation problem completely vanishes when importing PyOpenGL
additionally to PyQt. It doesn't even matter if it's imported before or after
PyQt, just before the first shader is created.

When I add:
from OpenGL import GL
the example from my first post works.

Someone from the PyQt mailing list suggested that this is caused by an
error when python dynamically loads the GL library.

** Summary changed:

- OpenGL backend not working with Nvidia driver package
+ PyQt cannot compile shaders with Ubuntu's Nvidia drivers

[Bug 1210700] [NEW] GnuPG error when running KGpg.

2013-08-09 Thread jan-Peter
Public bug reported:

When starting KGpg I get this message:

>GnuPG failed to start.
>You must fix the GnuPG error first before running KGpg.

Details:
gpg: /home/axioma/.gnupg/gpg.conf:4: argument not expected
gpg: /home/axioma/.gnupg/gpg.conf:5: invalid option

I also tried Kleopatra but again I'm not able to create any key. I
suspect because of the same reasons.

I'm running Kubuntu 13.04 (updated)

Would it be possible to un-install Gnupg and then reinstall it?

[Bug 883459] Re: KMail duplicates emails

2013-04-27 Thread Peter
Similar symptoms in kmail 4.10.2 in Kubuntu 13.04.

This is a fresh install of Kubuntu 13.04 64 bit. The duplicated emails are
from a pop account, and filtered to different folders.
Similar problem occurred with earlier versions of kmail, but it only ever made
1 copy. Sometimes, Kmail 4.10.2 has made 3 or 4 copies of an email. Many
emails are handled correctly and are not duplicated.

[Bug 1008314] [NEW] Kwalletmanager is unable to access my wallets after update.

2012-06-03 Thread Peter Snow
Public bug reported:

After the latest updates to version 1.9 (according to 'About Kwallet
Manager' and version 4:4.8.3-0ubuntu0.1 according aptitude when I
attempted to re-install it, none of my wallets can be opened by Kwallet.
They don't even get as far as asking my password, although I can see the
wallets in the KwalletManager.

When I open a wallet, it opens but inside it's empty and it opens
without asking a password, although I have one set.

I use the wallets continually, many times a day, so I know that all my
backed up copies are ok, but even copies from three weeks ago cannot be
opened.

I tried "sudo aptitude purge kwalletmanager" but this leaves unmet
dependencies, so I was unable to proceed with that.

"sudo aptitude reinstall kwalletmanager" had no effect either.

[Bug 941826] [NEW] OpenGL backend not working with Nvidia driver package

2012-02-27 Thread Peter Würtz
Public bug reported:

I'm having trouble with a combination of NVIDIA + Python + Qt + Opengl.

I tried using a QGraphicsView on a QGLWidget. I'm getting a white window and
errors like this these:
QGLShader: could not create shader
Vertex shader for simpleShaderProg (MainVertexShader &PositionOnlyVertexShader)
failed to compile

This is an example application triggering the problem:
http://pastebin.com/R0aa8ejs

The 'same' program works flawlessly when using C++/Qt. I'm seeing the exact
behavior when using PySide instead of PyQt4 by the way. I'm also seeing this
error when trying the original demo application from python-qt4-doc. Also,
calling
QtGui.QApplication.setGraphicsSystem("opengl")
produces the same errors.

I'm experiencing this problems on 11.10 and 12.04 with the ubuntu-
provided nvidia drivers (where 12.04 includes the most recent driver for
now). After installing the driver using the original NVidia installer,
the applications work as expected.

[Bug 768714] Re: kded4 and knotify4 eats 100% cpu

2011-12-19 Thread Peter Maloney
I had this problem today. For me, Dolphin was also taking 100% CPU. I
killed the 3 processes, and the problem is gone (without having to log
out and back in).

Last week I had a similar problem, when I put a USB stick in the
computer and it started going unusably slow. I had to kill many kde
processes, knotify, dolphin, and dbus daemon, and (since I killed
plasma-desktop) log back in to fix it. The USB stick does not cause this
problem today (but also the device notifier doesn't detect it today, but
I can mount it from the command line).

[Bug 886875] Re: Akonadi Configured but Calendar Empty

2011-11-11 Thread Peter Hargreaves
More Background:

This occurred on upgrade from Natty.

Steps taken to fault find:

I imported a copy of my calendar file but still the calendar remained
empty.

On advice I made sure Settings>Sidebar>Show Calendar Manager was
checked, but Calendar Manager did not display!

I did a clean install of Oneiric (on a spare partition) and the Calendar
worked properly and I was able to observe Calendar Manager - and find
out how to turn calendars on and off.

I returned to my upgraded installation and was able to reveal Calendar
Manager by dragging the Sidebar open. I was then able to see Calendar
Manager and enable my calendar. PROBLEM SOLVED.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

1) The Upgrade from Natty should be debugged so that it preserves the
currently selected calendars.

2) On importing a calendar the newly imported calendar should be
selected (by default), or the Calendar Manager should be forced to show
in the sidebar and sidebar forced to expand if collapsed.

3) When a show option such as Settings>Sidebar>Show Calendar Manager is
selected the sidebar should be expanded if in the collapsed state.

[Bug 872454] Re: akonadi complains about invalid maildir after fresh install

2011-10-14 Thread Peter
Similar symptoms here.
Fresh install of Kubuntu 11.10, running Kontact 4.7.2.
When I ask Kmail to check for new mail, multiple error messages are raised,
saying;
Local Folders: MailDir " for collection " is invalid.
see attached screenshot.

[Bug 554514] Re: cant find resource agents

2010-05-19 Thread Peter
and it mucks up Kopete if the addressbook links are used - it is a real killer
if you can't make sensible use of PIM applications
Stoping and starting Akonadi every time you start your computer really would
send a new user right back where they came from and is highly irritating for
old users who are used to a system that worked before they installed the 'new
improved' version (LTS for stability and reliability)

[Bug 554514] Re: cant find resource agents

2010-05-13 Thread Peter
Just to add to what has already been said - I have this same problem. I am
using akonadi to link to a google calender and addressbook but not to my
standard kde address book and calendar (I was but stopped because of the
problems I was having every time I started up my computer).
I can confirm that if I stop anything and everything related to Kontact, stop
Akonadi, start Akonadi, start Koantact all works as expected. But if I let
things happen as normal Akonadi complains of no resource agents.
If I stop Kontact and Akonadi and then start Kontact I get the error as well
(which I how I generated the selftest attached)
