[Bug 1868704] Re: Secondary monitor black after rotation

2024-03-06 Thread Roger Light
I'm no longer on 20.04 so can't confirm whether it is still present
there (it's still a supported release, right?). It must have been fixed
in the interim because it no longer affects me on 23.10. I guess since
nobody else seems to have been affected then this can be closed as
fixed.

[Bug 1988819] Re: When apt keeps back packages due to phased updates, it should list them separately

2023-08-01 Thread Roger Tawa
Julian, if apt knows that mutter is being held back due to phasing, and
that gnome-shell and gnome-shell-common are being held back because of
the mutter dependency, then it should be possible for the message to
look something like:

The following packages have been kept back as they are phasing or depend
  on a phased package:
gnome-shell gnome-shell-common mutter

[Bug 1762978] Re: ksmserver-logout-greeter crashes on logout preventing me from logging out

2020-06-25 Thread Roger Light
I have just experienced this on Kubuntu 20.04. I have an nvidia card and
apt just upgraded the nvidia drivers. I wonder if that is related. After
the upgrade, blender refuses to start, stating that there is no
supported graphics card so *something* has changed there.

[Bug 1868704] Re: Second monitor starts up black

2020-03-25 Thread Roger Light
I can now reproduce this from within the session.

* Starting point - everything is displaying as expected.
* Open System Settings/Display Configuration
* Disable the secondary monitor and click Apply
* Enable the secondary monitor (this will have reverted to landscape mode) and
click Apply
* -> The monitor should now display the desktop as normal (although in the
wrong orientation in my case)
* Click on "90 degrees anticlockwise" orientation, then click Apply
* -> The monitor will be black, with a visible mouse cursor

The same behaviour is shown going from no rotation to 90 degrees
clockwise, or from 180 degrees rotation to either of the portrait
orientations, but it works fine going from no rotation to 180 degrees.

[Bug 1868943] [NEW] Systemsettings - display orientation not updated when enabling/disabling second monitor (minor)

2020-03-25 Thread Roger Light
Public bug reported:

I have a primary monitor in landscape mode, and a secondary monitor in
portrait mode, rotated 90 degrees anticlockwise.

* Open system settings and go to display configuration
* Select the secondary monitor
* Uncheck "Enabled"
* Click Apply
* Check "Enabled"
* -> Secondary monitor reappears in UI, in landscape mode
* -> Orientation button "90 degrees anticlockwise" is still selected
* Click Apply
* -> Secondary monitor is enabled, but in landscape mode

I would expect the monitor orientation buttons to be consistent with the
orientation displayed on the UI.

This is a pretty minor bug, clicking "90 degrees anticlockwise" does
update the UI, so it's easy to work around.

[Bug 1868704] [NEW] Second monitor starts up black

2020-03-24 Thread Roger Light
Public bug reported:

I have two monitors, a landscape 1680x1050 (main monitor) and a portrait
1920x1080, rotated 90 degrees anticlockwise (secondary monitor). Nvidia
graphics card, with the proprietary drivers.

When I log in, the secondary monitor is entirely black. If I move my
mouse to the monitor, I can see it. If I try to drag a window to it, I
can see the mouse cursor but no window.

If I use Ctrl-Alt-F2 to swap to a console, then swap back to the desktop
the problem is resolved and I have a notification stating that kwin
restarted desktop effects due to a graphics change.

This is reproducible, it happens every time I log in.

Please let me know if I can provide more details.

[Bug 774985] Re: kate does not load last-used session

I just stumbled across this bug (again).
Apart from kate's misleading behavior, the directory ./local/share/kate (and
./local/share/kate/sessions) was somehow owned by root, preventing me from
effectively saving any session.
Just to remind anyone else in the same situation to check that those
permissions are correct, otherwise the workaround above won't work.

[Bug 1764311] [NEW] KIO sftp high CPU usage after being left idle (endless loop?)

2018-04-16 Thread Roger Rösch
Public bug reported:

Dolphin was left open overnight being connected via
sftp://user@host:port/folder/path.
(Two targets, one continuously reachable under host:port, one went offline
during the night)
Returning to the PC I found 4 sftp.so processes consuming 50% of a CPU core
each.
They continued to do so after the folders in Dolphin were closed, and even
after Dolphin itself was closed.
They responded to SIGTERM.

This is strace output from 1 of the processes, the same which apport was
used on:

ppoll([{fd=4, events=POLLIN}], 1, {tv_sec=0, tv_nsec=100}, NULL, 8) = 0
(Timeout)
write(3, "\1\0\0\0\0\0\0\0", 8) = 8

(Timeout)
write(3, "\1\0\0\0\0\0\0\0", 8) = 8
(continues to repeat, seems like its stuck in a loop)

Kubuntu 18.04 Beta 2, kde-runtime (4:17.08.3-0ubuntu1)

What I expected to happen:
No high CPU usage, maybe no sftp.so process at all as the conenction was idle.

What happened instead:
4 sftp.so processes using 200% CPU of my quad core, consuming energy and
shortening the lifespan of my system.

Feel free to contact me with questions, I can try to reproduces the problem.
Also I will leave one of the processes suspended for 1-3 days after filing this
report, so I can send a SIGCONT and give further information on it if requested.

[Bug 1569651] Re: akonadi startup fails with unknown variable innodb_additional_mem_pool_size [Xenial 16.04]

2017-03-28 Thread Roger Porta Batalla
I also got the error after upgrading from 14.04 to 16.04

I solved it touching the file /etc/xdg/akonadi/mysql-global.conf.

So it seems the file is getting cached somewhere

I think the bug should be reopened and investigated further. Maybe it is
necessary to flush the cache where the file is hold or execute the touch
during the upgrade. I feel upgrading an LTS should be safe and without
errors.

[Bug 1523326] Re: K3B (growisofs) too many directories

2015-12-07 Thread roger
Thank You for the speedy reply. I appreciate it.

Bottom line is nothing I tried that you suggested worked.

I tried xfburn prior to this bug report. The available disk sizes does
not include BD. It stops at DVD-DL or my latest copy from Ubuntu stops
at DVD-DL.

I first renamed genisoimage and copied xorriso to its name. The error
generated was 'unable to calculate file size'.

I next renamed mkisofs and copied xorriso to its name. The error
generated was 'unable to calculate file size'.

I am including both log files from my misadventures for your attention.
The first is a normal report. The second is after renaming xorriso >
mkisofs.

[Bug 1523326] [NEW] K3B (growisofs) too many directories

2015-12-06 Thread roger
Public bug reported:

hello . . .

I have successfully used K3B for many years doing monthly FULL backups
to DVDs and then BDs except for this month.

I tried to backup my system K3B 2.0.2 and received a few error messages
primarily being told that K3B could not calculate the file size.

I downloaded Kubuntu 15.10 with K3B 2.0.3 and using a USB stick began
K3B. Same error message.

I isolated the problem (maybe). growisofs generates an error telling me
that my burn has "too many directories". The number 65535 (?) follows
the message. This is the base error for all my other error messages. K3B
cannot calculate the file size because not all the directories are
calculated (?).

I removed /usr (biggest number of directories) and the burn was
successful. I used a DVD-DL to burn /usr and again successful.

It looks like I have maxed out the limit on directories. Never thought
that would happen.

K3b
Version 2.0.2 / 2.0.3
Using KDE Development Platform 4.14.13 and Kubuntu 15.10 downloaded 6Dec15.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy

2008-08-02 Thread Roger Keays
I can confirm the 4GB problem. Nautilus and brasero won't burn my file
which is over 4GB, but k3b will.

[Bug 195957] [NEW] Feb 25 language pack update stops boot after login

2008-02-26 Thread Roger Duncan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

After login the boot sticks on the second of the eight listed icons,
then goes back to the login window.

I was using Kubuntu Gutsy but now I can't!

The other previous hundred odd updates are fine, just the last one
causes trouble.

My computer is a 1.7 GHz pentium 4 celeron.

[Bug 36028] Re: F5 live - After "final" switch to graphics, screen goes blank

2006-04-28 Thread Roger
Looks like problem with Intel hw. There's solution available, should be in 7.1
(this bug is set as blocking for release of 7.1).
More details in another bug entry at

[Bug 36028] Re: F5 live - After "final" switch to graphics, screen goes blank

2006-04-18 Thread Roger
Checked some more and have found this bug:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5443

It seems there's something broken in new X.org (6.9/7.0). It works with VESA
drivers, fails with i810, which is autodetected.

[Bug 36028] After "final" switch to graphics, screen goes blank

2006-03-22 Thread Roger
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36028

Affects: kubuntu-meta kubuntu-live (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Kubuntu Flight 5 Live CD (disk checked), computer is laptop with i855GE
chipset and Pentium-M 1.1, 12,1" LCD WXGA 1280x800.

After several messages about / not found in /etc/fstab, loading some daemons
etc., it switches to graphics, but screen goes blank.
However it didn't freeze completely - if I push the power button, it starts
shutting down and then ejects the CD.
