[Bug 1322968] Re: Changing country leads to invalid locale

2021-08-23 Thread Uqbar
I appreciate a lot the work done by the (K)Ubuntu team, this is why I
was here to try to help.

I am a plain simple KUbuntu user, just like many others.
I use KUbuntu, not KDE alone nor Debian.
I encountered a bug and I tried to reproduce it in order to report it properly
on (K)Ubuntu bug tracking. A report matching my situation was already there, so
I joined the crowd.

I have no idea whether this is a bug coming from KUbuntu, KDE, Debian,
GnuLibC or the kernel: I am not a dev at (K)Ubuntu nor a (re)packager,
just a miserable simple user (MSU).

Someone else, the original triager, has more knowledge than I have
(quite easy) and knows/understands/checks that this is a real bug that's
not been introduced by (K)Ubuntu itself but by "someone else"(tm), aka
an "upstream" package.

So the bug needs to be filed upstream, not here. Cool. As the best knowledge
about the bug is in the original triager heads, he/she asks the MSU to file the
bug upstream.
So the MSU goes upstream, registers a new user (he won't even likely need any
more) and goes through the process of the bug filing. By starting with a fresh
new installation.

This means that the subsequent bug triaging steps are in the MSU hands,
which has much less knowledge than the original triager.

Long story shorter, it takes more time and resources by the MSU and by
the upstream developer team to handle the bug, just to avoid the
original triager a little bit more work: report the bug upstream with
all the details she/he already has got.

Does this make any sense?
Does this make any sense after 7+ years?

I am not really sure.

[Bug 1406477] Re: KDE NM connection editor shuffles the connection list upon connection

2019-03-01 Thread Uqbar
I don't think that a reshuffle of the connection list can be a good idea or
have any meaning.
While I think that keeping a sorting order, any sorting order, is.
If you has a list sorted in a certain manner, just keep it.

The priority number is for another purpose, the priority in running the
connection attempts.

The display sort order is something different.
Usually, for cabled connections you want to use either a lexicographical
ordering or a time-based one (latest to earliest, usually).
For wireless you either want a lexicographical ordering or one based on the
signal strength.
Again, I am talking about the display, not the use. We have priority index for
that.

[Bug 1645000] [NEW] Insists in reporting an unsuccessful extra download

2016-11-26 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

Every while and then I get a notification stating that there is a

Extra data file download unsuccessful

And it mentions a file called ttf-mscorefonts-installer and says the system
will try the download in the future and proposes to accomplish the action now
by clicking on a button.
If I do so, the action fails with this message:

Despite I have installed the installer myself, this error is popping out with
these annoying dialogs.
It's clearly an error in detecting the actual need for the installation and
there is possible wrong URL to download the packages.

[Bug 1584814] [NEW] Device notifier is confusing

2016-05-23 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

When I plug my smartphone with USB and I unlock it, the device notifier
widget shows two options to be used in order "to open"my device storage:
one is for MTP and one for PTP (see attached screenshot).

Issue #1. There's no way to know which entry is for MTP and which one is
for PTP. I need to click on both options in order to know.

Issue #2. My device can only have one working mode at a time: either MTP
or PTP, but not both.

For issue #1 there is a simple solution which is not to simply print
"Open with File Manager" twice, but to write also which protocol is to
be used, like "(MTP) Open with File Manager" or "Open with MTP within
File Manager".

I attach here also my device's USB details as reported by "lsuss -vv" in all
three modes:
MTP, PTP and "charge oly".

[Bug 1574528] [NEW] nm widget is missing some icons and text

2016-04-25 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

The network manager widget should show some text and possibly icons close to

Nope. I searched into Launchpad alone: that'd not be the first time such bugs
have been introduced by the packager.
The bug has been "created" and "reported" upstream, not addressed (in the sense
worked on/solved) at all.

This very bug is caused by an incorrect locale.
That is, the locales has been setup in /etc/default/locale, but the system has
mangled it in a weird way.

[Bug 1406477] [NEW] KDE NM connection editor shuffles the connection list upon connection

2014-12-30 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

== How to reproduce
0. Define 4 wired connections. I have 1 "normal" and 3 "VPN".
1. Activate the main wired connection
2. Activate any of the "Available connections"

== What happens
The list of the available connections is shuffled. The one with connection in
progress goes last in the list, while the mouse now points to a different
connection button.
The "connection in progress" is displayed below the connection name, but there
is no other sign, not even bold typeface.
As the connection succeeeds it will go in the "Active connections" part of the
widget.
Upon disconnection the conenction will be put back in the "available" section,
but at a position other than the original one.

== What should happen instead
Whatever makes more sense.
Shuffling that list is nonsense and adds confusion, especially in crowded
connection lists.
My personal opinions: Keep the original connection order. There is no way to
define it, though.

Screenshots are added below.

[Bug 1271423] Re: kwin requires libwayland-egl.so

2014-01-22 Thread Uqbar
I don't understand.
I never installed (nor uninstalled) any wayland-related or any egl-related
package.
If I did, they were pulled in by some other package as a dependency.
If an update to kde-window-manager required any of those libraries, why weren't
they in the dependencies?

[Bug 1076310] Re: K3b fails to detect sox

2013-03-29 Thread Uqbar
I have a proposal for a workaround similar to the one already in use for
normalize-audio.
As root:
1. mv /usr/bin/sox /usr/bin/sox.org
2. with your text editor create the file /user/bin/sox like this one:
#/bin/bash
case "$1" in
--version)
   sox.orig --version | sed -e 's/sox.orig: SoX v/sox: Version/g'
;;
*)
sox.orig $*
;;
esac

I've checked the mentioneed patch by Pino Torscano (grazie, Pino!) and it works
now.
I don't want to discuss who broke what. It's simply a shame that this happened
twice to the same package (that is K3b).

[Bug 1032541] [NEW] Panel autohide doesn't work any more

2012-08-03 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:
1. Panel settings
2. More settings
3. Automatically hide

Expected behavior:
The panel hides away from the desktop while any full screen window is resized
to eat all the screen room.

Actual behavior:
The panel doesn't hide, while any main full screen window is resized to eat all
the screen room.
This a part of those windows is unaccessible as it stays behind the un-hidden
panel.

[Bug 1026314] [NEW] Cannot burn CDs any more

2012-07-18 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

While I can burn DVDs both from an ISO image and from a file collection, I
cannot do the same with CDs and CD-RWs.
K3b said I could have problems with file permissions for both the executable

I applied the suggested changes. But still cannot burn any CD.
I attach also the k3b log file.

[Bug 1025224] [NEW] The "check for updates" function never ends

2012-07-16 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

How to trigger:

1. Click on the "check for updates" button
2. Wait for the progression bar to reach 100%

What happens:

1. All menu items are disabled (grayed)
2. There's only an "Abort" button on the right of the progression bar

What should happen instead:
The function should go back to the main muon window and should quote the update
status (how many packages are available, installed and upgradable.

[Bug 45026] Re: K3b dont find emovix-2 and normalize

2011-07-13 Thread Uqbar
It's really a shame! After 5 years all we have is a trivial workaround that
could have been even implemented into the package itself!
I'm pretty sure this has been introduced by Kubuntu not by the KDE team. And,
as it happens more and more often, there's more attention on the theme colors
or the appearance of the icons more than the real meat.
My workaround is to use brasero!

[Bug 807902] Re: K3b is not able to write data to DVD any more

Of course, if you choose to create an ISO image before burning the medium, it
will work.
I also chose the "DAO" mode for writing but am not sure whether this is
relevant or not.
So finally, this is the simple workaround.

[Bug 807902] [NEW] K3b is not able to write data to DVD any more

2011-07-09 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

This bug could be related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/k3b/+bug/481536.
As in that report seems to be forgotten, I open a brand new one

These are the tests performed (at least twice for each case):
1. Writing an ISO image WORKS (the program says it used wodim)
2. Writing data file (1 file for 1.4GB) DOESN'T WORK (log attached later)

In the mentioned older bug there is some hint about "using cdrecord
instead of wodim". This doesn't make any sense as wodim gets installed
along with K3b and, moreover, there's no way to install the real
cdrecord tool as of 11.04.

So, please, provide at least a workaround and possibly fix this stupid
annoying bug.

[Bug 663942] Re: network configuration for mobile broadband is not possible any more

2010-10-20 Thread Uqbar
It seems it's a bug into:

/lib/udev/rules.d/40-usb_modeswitch.rules

By editing the relevant entry from

ATTRS{idVendor}=="1ee8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0012", RUN+="usb_modeswitch
'%b/%k'"

to

ATTRS{idVendor}=="1ee8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0012", RUN+="/sbin/modprobe
option"

I got the "Mobile Broadband" tab enabled.
The mobile broadband is not working, anyway.

As of today, the HAL / automount feature is not working again.

[Bug 176114] Re: [Konqueror 3.5.8] Ad Block Plus doesn't work after list upgrade

2007-12-14 Thread uqbar
It works as it used to do on a number of sites I've tested.

I would say that the "fixes" Guillaume suggets should be actually called bug
workarounds.
The default AdBlock definition file loaded into konqueror had both the bang
lines and the "[Adblock Plus" header.

So I would hope for real fixes, like filtering out unsupported
predicates from the definition files.

It seems it works now.
As far as I remember the "bang lines" (the ones beginning with "!") used to be
present also in the original adblock definition ...

I'll do a better check and will eventually close this, though I think that if
we call it "AdBlock" it should work with AdBlock files, at least by filtering
out the unsupported thinga during the "Import".

[Bug 159982] KMail using mixed locale template in replies

[Bug 154762] Re: [GUTSY] NetworkManager eating 100% CPU time

2007-10-26 Thread uqbar
Some more details.

First.
The problem seems to arise actually from the interaction between
KNetworkManager (front end) and the NetworkManager
(back end).
The CPU goes 100% when KNetworkManager is not running or has been
killed/closed. This seems to be "fixed" by restarting the KNetworkManager as
shown by Serkan Hosca.

Second.
While NetworkManager is correctly bringing up my ethernet as required,
KNetworkManager (v0.2) incorrectly says the cable is unplugged.

[Bug 16269] Re: KPPP fails to connect.

I've found that the actual "bug" is in /etc/ppp/peers/kppp-options.
Infact it shows a line saying:

thus requiring all peers to authenticate. Usually provider ask you to

On the other side, if you change /etc/ppp/options, you'll change systemwide

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: k3b

Even though the required sox package has been installed and recognised by the
k3b, it says it cannot convert an MP3 file to WAV.
I used to do this with a previous distribution and it used to work fine.
System is KUbuntu Dapper Drake flight 6 up to date, k3b is v0.12.14, sox is
v.12.17.9.
I'm not sure whether the problem is in k3b per se or it's due to something wong
in the compiled packages.

[Bug 38145] Re: Mime type missing (application/octet-stream)

2006-04-18 Thread uqbar
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 32139 ***

I confirm all the above by Raoul. I did a fresh new Dapper flight 6 (Kubuntu)
installation.
If you see Raoul's report, you can see that almost everything get replicated
twice in the kdesud activation. The correct one should be the one using the
~/.kde rule.
So I'd say that it's related to some "PATH" variable missing or improperly
setup.
