I had this same issue on a fresh install of Amarok w/ Ubuntu 9.10:

For me, the splash screen was hiding a setup screen of the exact same
size and coordinates.  I found this out by having the Amarok splash
screen active and doing a shift+alt+ctr+right arrow (which moves the
active window to the right desktop).  The Amarok splash screen stayed on
the left desktop and I was able to fill out the setup screen that was
hidden.
